In “My sister and other lovers” Freud continues the tale begun 30 years ago with her novel Hideous Kinky. Here the sisters Lucy ( narrator) and Bea are now in their teens, still feeling the effects of their unorthodox and neglectful early childhood. As they age into young women they struggles to connect with each other and their mother continue.
The chapters read like connected short stories and will not be to everyone’s liking.
Freud reads her own work in the audiobook edition and it’s easy for a listener to get lost amongst the characters, requiring frequent rewinds.
A book about memory and complex family love.
