This was cute and I loved Imani - her energy, her fashion obsession and her understanding of fashion as being about so much more than clothes, her desire to share her different cultural influences in both food and fashion. I know this is middle grade, but I did think some of the telling could have been done by showing. For example, when she talks to her friends about Harley using kente cloth, she literally says, "This is cultural appropriation," which felt like it was more an explanation for the audience than a thing an actual middle schooler would say. There are more real ways to have this conversation.
