This story is as vibrant as its cover! I’m not the age range it’s meant for but I love reading middle grade fiction because of how bright and joyful it can be, and this was definitely fun even as an adult reader. I loved the cosy paranormal aspects and the ways side characters were done, as well as the diversity than shone through the entirety of the book. I’ll be going back to read the first instalment as well as any others that come out because of how much I enjoyed this one.

Okay I absolutely loved this book! The friendships are so sweet— I loved that Paloma managed to stay close with her friends after she moved away, and that her relationship with her new friends is equally important and close but different. That aspect felt very realistic and very healthy, and I absolutely adored it. I also really love the magic of this world and was sucked in right from the very beginning. The ghosts, the other aspects of the magic—it was all so so good!
I do wish we'd gotten to linger just a little more in the climax—it felt like it was all over just a little too quickly. But even with that, this was absolutely a five star read. This is the kind of book I would have absolutely torn through when I was that age and I'm so glad it's out there!
I also LOVED the narration!!
