Nowhere Girl is a raw, honest, but also humorous account of what living with ADHD is like for women. Carla uses her own experiences, blended with academic research to create a cohesive narrative of life as a woman with ADHD. By exploring gender stereotypes and expectations, she notes how ADHD in women is often passed over, despite its profound impact on our lives. As a fellow Nowhere Girl, I saw myself in Carla’s story. While we had different experiences, her inner dialouge and motivations really resonated with me.

Carla brings awareness to the socioeconomic realities disproportionately affecting women, preventing proper recognition of ADHD. She speaks on how access to mental health care is a luxury and a privilege, calling to light the inequities of the healthcare system, as well as the damaging effects of neglecting a holistic approach. I love the sheer number of citations in this book. As an academic and now industry research girl, I love to see the number of sources the author used and will definitely be looking at some of these articles.

Overall, Nowhere Girl is a compelling memoir of the female ADHD experience. It is both relatable and informative, creating a window into the lives of ADHD women not previously seen before. If you or anyone you care for has ADHD, this book is a must-read.
