I started this series with this book which happens to be the third in the series. While it can be read as a standalone I’m sure if I started with the first book and continued in ascending order I would have had a deeper understanding of the dynamics of the plotline. There’s an overall arc throughout these stories that help tie everything together.
Shattered By You is a dark romance. It’s been years since I’ve read a dark romance and I had forgotten how addicting they are with their intense storylines.
Ms. Rose’s writing was well done. She created a world where I could feel the character’s pain and the adrenaline coursing through their bodies. Love songs are made out of what Haven & Crisis endured to be together.
Haven’s character is one of perseverance and survival. She has spent her life forced into selling her body and to keep her compliant she was drugged to make her reliant on the people who controlled her life.
Crisis is in a famous band and known for his manwhorish ways. But what people around him hadn't noticed was that he had stopped jumping from bed to bed as he was preparing himself to be there for Haven when she was ready to let someone into her life. He wanted to be that someone.
SHATTERED BY YOU
♦ dark romance
♦ Haven is a survivor of abuse (sex and drugs)
♦ Haven is detached

Darker romance readers if you haven’t already read this series get to it.

With apologies I reviewed this book a long time ago, it was a brilliant read. Sincere apologies for review not being on netgalley!

“..My story isn’t about being shattered. It’s about surviving the pieces.”
“The snippets of who she was lay beneath that cold exterior and I liked the snippets…I liked her cold exterior, too. She was strong yet vulnerable at the same time.”
Haven has lived through hell. Used and abused. Over and over. Now that she’s finally reunited with her beloved twin brother, Ream, of the famous rock band, Tear Asunder, she’s physically fully recovered but emotionally? She’s like ice. Cold and removed from the people around her. She’s just pretending to be okay but she’s haunted by her past, and desperately trying to find a new normal. One person has been really paying attention, though. And, he makes her feel things that are alien to her. Her feelings for him confuse her, and her sexual desire for him surprises her.
“Crisis was like a leech that kept sucking the blood out of me, but it wasn’t blood, it was my coldness. It was as if he was the heater turned on high and I was the block of ice that was slowly melting.”
When Crisis finds Haven running, soaked to the bone, out in the rain, he’s decided that enough is enough. About to go on tour with the band, he blackmails her into a daily communication with him. Through the exchanges of texts and the occasional phone call, Haven’s icy walls slowly crumbles, and a friendship between them grows. Both feel more than friendship but there’s a lot standing in their way, not least Crisis’ crazy female stalker.
This story was amazing! It was dark, gritty, and painful but also full of hope and passion. The things that Haven had been through were unspeakable. Crisis, the showman, the flirt, the manwhore, wants her and he’s willing to be patient and change his ways for her.
“You can’t hide from me…You will break…And when it does happen, I intend to be there to help you pick up the pieces.”
Their connection was wonderful – the texts between them were funny. I loved how he brightened Haven’s day and her life, in general – that he would do anything for her. The trust that they build between them is heartwarming. I loved how careful Crisis was with her and how unafraid she was with him. The growth of the relationship between them, and Haven slowly coming back to life, was beautiful to watch. A fab story!
