A delightful book to reassure pet owners of any age when their pet is ill or simply needs to see the vet. A little escapism about having a "pet Translator" but reassuring just the same. There is a glossary and bonus activities included.
The illustrations by Mischa Pearson are complex, imaginative, colorful, and FUN.
Well suited for reading alone or WITH someone of any age, including ESL, and great for gifting to EVERYone, but especially to a school, waiting room, or your local public library!
I requested and received a temporary uncorrected digital galley from BooksGoSocial via NetGalley.

I received a copy of this eBook from netGalley for a honest review.

This book is a cute story about a fun loving cat who gets sick and how the family gets him help from a vet. The story is sweet and the pictures are fun. All in all a solid picture book for kids who love animals.

This is a cute rhyming book about a cat. I love that it also has a learning aspect to it. I wish the pet translator was a real thing. It would be really cool to be able to understand what our pets are saying to us. This book shows how helpful the vet is and also signs of a serious condition in cats. This is great for kids! Thank you to BooksGoSocial and NetGalley for the ARC. All opinions are my own.

What's Wrong With Tom is a fun, rhyming book that explains a serious cat health issue in a way kids can understand. With engaging artwork, a helpful glossary, and bonus activities, it’s perfect for cat-loving families—and a great reminder to help pets adjust when moving to a new space.

A great book teaching children/ adults signs to look for when our pets don’t feel to great, even helping anxiety when our babies have to go to the vet. It’s always anxious process cause we don’t know if they’ll be okay or what’s happening. I did like that it had to glossary in the back.

It did seem a bit long and wordy to me.

Thank you NetGalley & Dr.Gal for giving me an opportunity to read the story.

I had a lot of technical issues accessing this book, but was finally able to read it through Kindle... despite there being a huge white line dissecting each page. Putting that frustration aside, I love the idea of this book and thought the story was well done! This is a very niche type of book with not a lot of other options available to kiddos interested in veterinary medicine. Unfortunately, I didn't love the style of illustrations. I don't know if I can adequately convey why, but the illustrations just didn't work for me with this book. Thank you, NetGalley!

What an interesting book for children. I personally would not read this book to my own children or my preschool class. I don’t think children will want to read/listen to a cat with a UTI.

This book was so cute! I read this to my nephew, and he was so invested in the story to see if Tom was going to be okay! I absolutely LOVED the illustrations, they were cute and colorful. Will for sure purchase this in the future.

Thank you to Netgalley, Dr. Gal Chivvis, and BookGoSocial for an ARC of this book in exchange for my honest feedback.

That was cute and educational.
My son loved it so much. He currently loves cats and in a mission to convince me and his daddy to have one as a pet. This book showed him that cats could get sick and we need a veterinarian to help.
We used to have iguana as a pet and it was difficult to find exotic veterinarian near where we lived, so our vet visits were limited. Hence, my son didn't get full experience with vet visits. But through this book, my son could experience how the veterinarian took care of the sick cat and my son was in awe. Especially with the pet translator device. I needed like an hour to tell him that the device was fictional 😅

Thank you to Dr Gal Chivvis, BooksGoSocial, and NetGalley for the ARC.

Thanks so much to NetGalley for the free Kindle book. My review is voluntarily given, and my opinions are my own.

This is a great book for kids who are worried about taking their pets to the veterinarian. It actually would be a great resource to have at the various vet offices for the kids to read while anxiously waiting to see if their pet is going to be okay.

Definitely would recommend this book.

Written by veterinarian Dr. Gal Chivvis, What’s Wrong with Tom? is likely to be a hit with the little animal lovers in your life. While the inclusion of an imaginary animal translator detracts from the book’s otherwise science-based approach, the anatomical and disease information, paired with a fun rhyming scheme, keeps it engaging for a wide range of young readers. The graphic elements are somewhat underwhelming, but for dedicated pet lovers and aspiring veterinarians, the glossary and pet care tips offer a valuable bonus.

Thanks to Critter Care Collective, LLC and NetGalley for the advance reading copy.

I read this book together with my 3 and 5 year old nieces, as I myself am a bit older than the suggested age range! The girls are animal lovers and were excited for this title. We had fun reading the rhyming dialogue together, and the illustrations were cute and colorful without being over the top.

As a bonus, I liked that the story chooses to draw attention to the very serious issue of urinary blockages in male cats, which are a major emergency! Pet owners of all ages should definitely be aware.

Kiddo and I both really enjoyed the book! The artwork was full of thoughtful details—especially the illustrations of the medical equipment, which were surprisingly intricate. And yes, I definitely noticed the blue bird appearing throughout, which was a clever visual touch. I was also pleasantly surprised by the bonus content at the end—it was a neat addition. I think parents, families with pets, and especially cat lovers will really appreciate this story

This was a cute book that I reviewed with my 8 yr old. We just adopted a kitten so this will be helpful in explaining to kids the "doctoring" process for animals. cute illustrations.

This was an adorable book! My child absolutely loved getting to know Tom and exploring how we figure out what's wrong with our pets. We have a cat, so this really helped her understand our pet and how we can best communicate when we don't speak the same language as our cat! It also helped us talk about emotions and how animals can also get scared/nervous/etc. and what that looks like for them.

Thank you, NetGalley, for the adorable book by Dr. Gal Chivvis!

Cute book, love the concept of helping people understand cats through story books. Good for adults too.

This feels like a charming “business card” for the author, who is a real veterinarian. It would be wonderful if books like this were handed out to clients with children — as a gentle reminder of how to care for a pet, along with some basic tips. The story itself is sweet, and I especially loved the fantastic machine that translates from cat to human. (What if vets already have one and we just don’t know it?)

How can a pee story be so cute? I loved how the author explained how to care for a cat while telling the readers to always keep an eye on their pet’s discomfort. I found that the story was very well done, especially with the glossary at the end. I think that it it a great way to start a conversation with a kid about how to live with a cat (or any animal).

I would recommend this for any parents with children and cats.

Thanks to NetGalley for a copy of this book.

Omg this book was so cute. The way that the words were formatted on the pages was great. I thought that made the book interactive and interesting. I think that a child would love how the colors and the words appear on the page. There was also a little bit of rhyming which I loved. One of my favorite parts was the magic involved with the translator machine.

I think this story will definately keep kid's attention. Especially if they like cats. I think the story is written well. This would be a good story for talking to kids about Veterinarians and how that job works. As well as talking to their kids about what happens at the doctor's office for pets when they are sick in a small way.

The glossary in the back of the book is really cool and helpful. I LOVED the Bonus in the back too. I would have loved having this book as a kid. I grew up with stress and loved pets and I think a lot of kids will like this book especially if they find it relatable. I would definately reccomend this book to any pet or cat lover family. Family's would definately love sharing this book with their kids!
