From the bestselling women's fiction author this is her latest novel set in March 1958 in Liverpool in the North of England.
From the very beginning there is certainly lots of deceptions, plus many secrets and lies.
Olive returns to her hometown of Liverpool after discovering her beloved father had passed away and her mother hadn't even told her, she hadn't even told her when the funeral was. So she was determined to do something, one thing was to take her daughter Joanna and go to America and see Joanne's father, who has not got too much longer to live. But first she must find somewhere to live, the accommodation in her mums house was just not suitable and they really didn't get on. Olive has her set of numbers that her dad always used for the football pools, they have already been good luck to her and she has a sizeable winning. But this is a secret that she must keep from her mum. Her mum certainly seems to have a grudge against Joanna and when Olive finds a house in Waterloo near Southport, her mum certainly objects to this too, wondering where she has got the money from. It's not long before Joanna sets sail for America with two friends who are going over to do some climbing, so at least she has some company en route. She has a lovely time, visiting film studios and other places she has only seen on films before. Meanwhile back in Waterloo, near Liverpool in July and August, Olive receives some bad news and has to make a unscheduled journey to see a special person. Worried about how long it will take and whether that person will be wanting to see her are just a couple of doubts she has.
As in the title this book has many secrets and plenty of lies, but will it be enough to make everyone happy?

I have always been a big fan of June Francis work and this book is as good as all the others I have read. I really enjoyed reading it, a five-star read from me.

a brilliant read right from the cover.i was taken in to Olives world completely. it was such a richly written and emotional injected read.i was intrigued into both plot and characters personalities with each characters descriptions making them come alive from the pages.
Olive receives a letter from her past. or rather someone from her past. but there's a secret behind the relationship and one that could cause her present life pain. but can she deny a man the want to see his daughter? and after all this is her true father and shes also now heard hes losing his sight. how can she deny a man that? but in her current life is Theo who is currently angling for a divorce so he can be off with his mistress. will this actually serve Olive the chance she needs for the future she wants?
and what about Josh. can she trust him?
who's keeping secrets and who's telling lies. and what will come of Olives future now both might threaten it. shes got lots to overcome doe our Olive and faces a fair few challenges along the way not least from those who should be supporting and closest to her.
you are instantly taken in and want to know how this will end for her.
a well written story that had me immersed into the story line, setting and got me needing to know all the parts might come together.
June has such a way of writing these books. you know she found her place and genre and are glad for it. i hope she knows just how much joy and love her books get. she truly is a talent. i hope all the authors know how much they are appreciated. this is a hard world for authors especially right now and i cant believe we still get to share their talents when they keep delivering their books to us.

Appropriately named book, your job is to work out who’s keeping the secrets and who’s telling the lies!
When Olive Jones receives a letter informing her that old American sweetheart Joe would like to see his daughter Joanna, who he’s just found out about, before he loses his sight, she has to decide if she should go with her? Biggest problem being, she wants to buy a house, and does she really want to ignite any old feelings after all this time? Her biggest regret is that Josh who she thought of as a friend betrayed her by informing Joe about Joanna.
Added to Olives problems is her ex, Theo is looking for a divorce, will it suit Olive’s plans?
Thrown into the mix is Olive’s mother Flora, who sounds like the least maternal mother ever.

I enjoyed the book, although I have to confess I found some of the family connections confusing.
I enjoyed the factoids throughout the book, very interesting.

This is a very good book with an important message. Always tell your significant other and your children the truth no matter how difficult it may be. I feel like a lot of issues cpukd have been resolved if the main character had beeb honest at the beginning. overall it was a very good book.
