really terrible book; maybe it's meant to give insight into contemporary fascistic/nihilistic trad views of womanhood and society? but it doesn't create this as an auto-critiquing object, so this seems to fail. sally rooney with il duce instead of marx...

Well, that’s it. I’m officially old. I hated everyone in this book. They all needed to wash their faces, get themselves together and accomplish something.

this one kinda snuck up on me -- I was somewhat resistant at first, disliked the pessimistic, self-involved writing, but it grew on me quickly.

this one takes place in a bleak near-future (at least I think, it was too close to reality to know for sure) and is pretty depressing. we follow our protagonist, Avery, through a series of bad decisions, mostly spending her time having sex with men, thinking aimlessly about her failures and comparing herself to other women -- mainly her successful, artistic best friend, Frances. there was a dry sort of chic-ness to this one and I ended up really loving the writing style, the screwed up and painfully honest way Avery saw the world around her.

I liked how this one felt heavy with commentary on the transactional nature of the world we live in, as well as the commentary on aging, desire, womanhood, sex and success.

'flat earth' started around 2.5-3 stars but worked it's way up to 4 by the end. a quick easy read that I ate up fast!
