This book is... fine. It's a very standard slasher, which is fun in its way, but I couldn't help feeling I've seen a lot of it before. That's fine if you want what it offers - the writing is good, the characters are absolutely what you'd expect from Horror Movie Teens, and the setup is solid.
I just left it feeling as if I'd rather go watch 'Hatchet' again, as it brings nothing new to the genre.
Entertaining, but like fast food - does the job but ultimately not very memorable.

They fled one conflict and into a carnage. 1973. A bunch of disobedient teenagers board a stolen RV and flee to Canada as the draft draws near and secrets threaten to destroy them. The plan is independence, peace, and survival. But there's more waiting in Humboldt County's decaying forests. Not quite human. He used to be a boy. sold like trash. brought up alone. molded by brutality. He now hunts like an animal, swift, vicious, and silent, while donning a rusted metal mask. The Duke is whispered about by locals. However, nobody lives to tell the truth.

The Duke is about a group who ran away to escape being sent to war but in the woods they run into something very sinister and dangerous. I have not finished the book yet but wanted to leave my review. This book was right up my street. The plot is perfect, The way is written is so descriptive and also very easy to read. Cannot wait to finish it and read the other books!! Brilliant
