Both the narrators brought these characters to life. They did a fantastic job.
I really enjoyed this Regency rom con. This story follows Simon and Emmie, it starts off when he was suppose to propose to her but instead send a note saying he can’t.
We pick up two years later Simon has a new title, and we learn he got it because his father and uncle died and left him with debt that is drowning him. Emmie is out for her third season, we learn she’s a writer and has money of her own, and doesn’t want to get married.
We see how Simon has changed because of his hardships, he’s also taking care of his 3 younger siblings, but he has changed for the better. Emmie soon realizes why he stood her up and want to help him and his sibling.
I loved who both characters could self reflect and change for the better.
The relationship between the siblings is heartwarming.
Emmie and her cousin Thomas is my favorite relationship of the book. Built on trust and knowing the other person and loving them for exactly who they are. The banter between Emmie and everyone was great.
Her Aunt Bean was over the top and perfect for the book. She made me laugh m, even though she would have been appalled that I did lol
It ends how you would want and expect. I hope she writes another one about the sister. Definitely worth the fun read.

Sense and Suitability is a charming, clean romance that gives Downton Abbey vibes. While it took me a while to fully get into the story, I ended up appreciating the period drama and was eagerly listening by the end. This book is definitely outside my usual genre. I thought the writing style would be more modern, so that took a minute to get used to, but overall I enjoyed it.

Sense and Suitability is a sweet, modern twist on Austen’s classic. Pepper Basham captures the heart of the Dashwood sisters’ story with warmth, charm, and just the right amount of romance. A few moments feel a bit rushed, but overall it’s a delightful, faith-filled retelling that leaves you smiling.

What a cute, charming and clean rom com that takes you back in time. I enjoyed this read very much and adored the characters. Emmeline and Simon are the perfect match but society and responsibilities keep interfering.

I love Pepper Basham's writing style and have been enchanted by each book of hers that I have read, so I jumped at the chance to read her first foray into Regency romance, and I'm so glad I did!

Sense and Suitability is witty, romantic, and (as with all of this author's books) chock full of endearing characters. I enjoyed the nods to Jane Austen and her books as well as the parallels that were drawn.

The audiobook makes for an addictive listen. Fiona Hardingham and Christopher Ashman breathe life into these characters in a way that engages the senses and captivates the listener.

I highly recommend this charming and delightful book!

Sense and Suitability is everything I want in a Regency rom-com—witty, heartfelt, and full of charm. Pepper Basham delivers a delightful mix of humor, second-chance romance, and just the right touch of swoon-worthy moments, all wrapped in a clean but sparkling love story.

Emmeline is such a refreshing heroine—clever, independent, and determined to write her own story (literally!). Her secret identity as an author added such a fun twist, and her sharp banter with Simon had me grinning from start to finish. Simon, for his part, is the perfect blend of flawed and redeemable, and watching him prove himself worthy of Emme’s heart was so satisfying.

I also adored the side details that made this story shine: the wild siblings, the chaotic household, and of course, a frog named Blast—pure delight. The chemistry between Emme and Simon builds slowly but beautifully, making their second-chance love story feel both earned and deeply rewarding.

This is the kind of Regency romance that makes you laugh, sigh, and hug the book when you’re done. Fans of Tessa Dare and Eloisa James will absolutely adore it—but Pepper Basham brings her own unique voice that makes this one stand out.

Utterly charming and unputdownable—an instant favorite!

This was a fun, cute regency rom com which would be great for fans of Bridgerton!
The characters were likable and full of whimsy and humour.
I would definitely recommend if you're looking for a light-hearted, historical fiction romantic comedy.

I really enjoyed this regency romcom with humor and the twists and turns that a good time-honored classic brings. This is a must read for anyone who is a fan of Downton Abbey, Bridgerton and and any of the classic Bonte novels.

The characters were dynamic and both strong-willed and family focused, there was the usual busy bodies and scandal creators which made you really want to pull for the FMC and MMC.

The pacing was good and provided enough description and plot for you to be drawn into the story form the very first page.

Adorable!!! That’s the very first word that popped into my mind after listening to this romantic comedy set in the Regency Era. The storyline gave a fun little nod to Sense and Sensibility, but the author absolutely made it her own. And the characters? Yep—you got it—ADORABLE!!! I loved every single one of them, especially little Phia (she completely stole my heart!). The narrators were fantastic and brought so much life to the story. Honestly, if you love this genre, you’re going to adore every second of this read!

I was given a copy of this book by Thomas Nelson Publishers, and this is my honest opinion.

Sense and Suitability by Pepper Basham, is a charming homage to Austen with its elegant era details and witty tone. I enjoyed the story and felt the characters were engaging and well-developed, and the dual narrators delivered an excellent performance that brought the dialogue and setting to life. While I appreciated the Austen-esque style, I felt the pacing could have been tightened in places to make the slower sections move more briskly. Overall, it’s a delightful listen for fans of historical romance and Jane Austen-inspired fiction.

Thanks to Netgalley and Thomas Nelson and Zondervan Fiction Audio for this ALC . This is my honest review.

This was a really cute read for anyone who likes historical romance, jane austen, or books about books, and I happen to love all three so had a great time with this. The plot made sense for the society of the time, the characters were super likable and engaging, and the plot resolution was very satisfying to say the least. My only issue with the story was the repetitiveness of the characters' inner monologues. We hear over and over and over about the same things from them which I will say is fairly realistic compared to my brain, but my brain annoys me and I read to escape it, so maybe thats why I didnt love that.

Sense And Suitability is a sweet, clean rom-com set in the regency era, of course influenced by Jane Austen's Sense and Sensibility.
This book was such a fun read, I actually put off finishing it because it was just a good time!
Our story follows Emmeline Lockhart and Simon Reeves (along with his siblings). You learn about how Emmeline is an author publishing under a pseudonym and learn about her past with our MMC Simon. Whom she had previously been about to get engaged to, until she was left by herself on the day. Then we have Simon, an eldest son of his parents who is inheriting their estate and titles, but has the supposed reputation of a rake. Is that all it is though, a SUPPOSED reputation? Or is there more to learn about this character?
Emmeline is smart and has a quick wit, which is part of the reason she has such a hard time adjusting in her two seasons after she was supposed to get engaged to Simon. After Simon comes back from his trip abroad, he and Emmeline keep involuntarily running into each other. They learn that how they separated wasn't for the last time. The development between characters and families in this story is nice and refreshing to see. Even though these characters are based from centuries ago, they feel real, raw, and relatable. Emmeline isn't the cliche "girlboss" in this book like FMC can be written (esp. in historical pieces) and I am SO glad of that.
This book is going to influence me to pick up other Pepper Basham books with delight.
The narrators in this book fit so well together and have such an amazing way of bringing these characters to life, I will definitely be keeping an eye out for them in future projects.

I really enjoyed this regency romantic comedy. I thought the story was cute for a second chance romance. It had no spice being a clean regency novel, but I didn’t mind it at all. I think it will make for a great entertaining read for anyone!

Thank you to Thomas Nelson Fiction and Zondervan Audio , NetGalley and Pepper Basham for providing me an early copy of this audiobook to listen to and review. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

Emmeline Lockhart is an author in a time when that is a scandalous profession for a lady, so her writing must remain anonymous. She is also starting her 3rd season on the marriage mart without a match. She thought she had found the perfect match 2 seasons ago until he left her without explaining what happened. Now he’s back and looking for a wealthy wife. Simon Reeves is now a Viscount, but that comes with much heartache and stress. He must marry a wealthy woman to save his estate and his family.

I really enjoyed this book! It is a cute Regency romance with nods to Jane Austen. Emmeline and Simon are great characters who must decide if their past will define them or if they will shape their own futures as much as possible. The supporting cast of characters are great as well; we have a vicar cousin, a couple curmudgeonly aunts, a sweet sister, some mischievous younger siblings and a kindhearted father. There is of course the one character bent on causing issues and getting her way. For the most part it was well done, however I felt there were a couple of threads of the story that needed to be wrapped up. I hope that means we will get another book. There was also not any obvious faith elements in this book except for what is implied by the actions of the characters. I loved the family dynamics in this book- in both families. I loved the shenanigans that the main characters kept finding themselves involved in without even trying.

If you love Jane Austen type stories, or clean, sweet stories set in the regency period then you will love this story. If you are looking for books with blatant faith or want a book with huge amount of action then you might not like this one.

This audiobook was well done! I think both narrators did a great job with voicing the character. Their accents were on point. They were easy to listen to. At no time did I have trouble following what they were saying. I would rate the listening experience five stars.

🎧✨ Audiobook Review: Sense and Suitability by Pepper Basham (narrated by Fiona Hardingham & Christopher Ashman) 👒📚

I really enjoyed this one. Emmeline Lockhart is sharp, funny, and secretly making her own way as an author, which gave her a lot more depth than the usual Regency heroine. Simon coming back into her life after breaking her heart had me hooked, because you could feel both the frustration and the chemistry between them right away.

The banter felt natural, the side characters (yes, even the frog 🐸) added charm, and it never dragged. What stood out to me was how clean and witty it stayed—plenty of tension and swoony moments without needing to be overly dramatic.

The audiobook narration worked perfectly—Fiona Hardingham gave Emme the right mix of confidence and vulnerability, while Christopher Ashman made Simon sound sincere and not just another “Regency rake.”

If you like second-chance romance with humor, heart, and just the right touch of Regency drama, this is one worth picking up.

Thank you NetGalley for an opportunity to do an ARC read. The review and opinions are my own. I read the book and did the audiobook for an immersive experience.

This was such a sweet rom-com book that was a palate cleanser for me between other reads. It was a quick read that was well written and I enjoyed the tropes especially of second chance romance and subtle feminist themes.

Cute read and I enjoyed. The accent in the audiobook was a bit tough to get past at first but reading along definitely helped improve my experience

What a charming story! I love how much drama can be created from so little action. In true Regency fashion, it’s simply a novel of people in their daily lives. But that doesn’t make the boring! The dual narrators were fantastic. They both had a lovely, wide vocal range, which is impressive as one character (this hilarious Sophia) is only 5 years old. Thanks to Thomas Nelson for the audio ARC.

If you are a fan of Austen and regency romance this is a MUST READ!!

Emmeline is expecting a proposal from Simon, but instead she is left heartbroken without a single explanation as to why.

Two years have passed and Simon is back. After the passing of his cousin and father, Simon has taken on the title of Viscount and also all the debts they had accrued. He is in need of an advantageous marriage this season to take care of his siblings and the estate. The only problem is that he can’t get Emme out of his head…or heart.

This was such a sweet and enjoyable book. The witty banter was top notch. I was rooting for them from the very start and loved their journey to finding each other again.

Read if you like:

-Regency romance
-Romantic comedy
-Witty banter
-Second chance romance
-Low spice
