I’m a sucker for a book about running and this one was an excellent example. I was not familiar with Thompson previously but really enjoyed his voice and particularly the story of his relationship with his father through the prism of running. I think even non-runners will get something out of this - I’d recommend it to anyone who has ever become obsessed with anything.

I read very little nonfiction, and probably fewer books written by men. I am so very glad I made exceptions to both tendencies for this incredible book. It reaches far and wide in time and geography but spoke to me as a daughter of New England who has come to running later in life. Running is often most interesting to the runner talking about their own exploits and most boring to every single other person on the planet. Somehow, Thompson manages to make running enthralling even to the person sitting and reading about it.
I adored this book and recommend it most highly.
