I jumped into this book with no expectations, not realizing this is book five in a series I had never read. I absolutely loved this book. Not having read the first four installments didn't impeded my enjoyment of this story at all, and I'm already working to get a hold of book one. This is an engaging and suspenseful thriller, intermingled with discussions of other great reads throughout (something I always love). I've already recommended this series to several friends, and am looking forward to circling back to the beginning to catch up.

This is an interesting read that keeps you on your toes. I haven't read the any of the series before but you get enough back story to know what happened and a lot has happened. The characters here are ones you actually like reading about despite all the tragedy that befalls them. The plot here is simple enough to follow and it even gives you enough to want to read the rest of the books in the series. What makes this so good is the writing, It's engaging and for a series or a book like this you have to have characters you want to read about.

Illusionist is a contemporary crime thriller where PI McPherson must choose between killing an author at a writing retreat in the Pacific Northwest or letting a college student die! Great read! This book was almost a cozy mystery but with a thrilling bite! It also had fantastic characters, chilling suspense, murder, mystery, intrigue and a few wild twists and turns! The story was very interesting! I definitely recommend reading this book! Thank you NetGalley and the publisher for sharing this book with me!
