A required read for everyone to put into perspective how depressing this day was and for anyone looking to read about what it was like being in the capitol on this infamous day

Storm at the Capitol by Mary Clare Jalonick is one of the most thorough, minute-by-minute accounts of January 6th I’ve read. Jalonick pieces together eyewitness testimony from lawmakers, staffers, journalists, police officers, and even rioters to create a full, unflinching portrait of that chaotic day. The level of detail is impressive and makes this book feel like an essential record of history.
As with many fact-based historical books, the writing can feel dry at times. But what it lacks in narrative flair, it more than makes up for in accuracy, structure, and credibility. I admire the depth of research and the care taken to present the story in such a clear, organized way.
What struck me most was how human the book feels. Instead of just focusing on the broader political narrative, it zeroes in on individual voices, each one offering a different perspective. This allows readers to not just learn what happened but to truly feel the weight of those hours.
Overall, Storm at the Capitol is an absolute must-read. It’s not just a history book, it’s a reminder of the fragility of democracy and the importance of remembering, documenting, and understanding this defining moment.

This book is an absolute must read. It is so thorough and detailed and factual, minute by minute. I was fascinated and learned a lot. This minute by minute rundown of everything that happened on January 6th is so vital for everyone to read. I was so impressed at the writing and retelling and admire the author for the research and work it took to put this together.
