I tried listening to this book several times and I just couldn’t get into it. With the string accent I couldn’t understand the name of the new girl at work with the big eyes and nose and mouth.
I’m putting this book as a DNF more because I couldn’t understand with the accent, it was slow and it didn’t catch my attention.

Many thanks to NetGalley and Tantor Audio for the free audiobook in exchange for my honest review. Clare Corbett does a fantastic job pulling the reader in with her narration!

This is a wickedly smart psychological thriller that crosses a psychopath with dark comedy to a tremendous result!

Julie is a 49 year old admin that loves spreadsheets, abstract art, and a much younger coworker named Sean. Scratch that, she is obsessed with her boyfriend Sean. However, behind her perfectly organized exterior lies a deluded obsession and casual murder that she has ramped up over the years. Told through dual timelines, the reader is slowly introduced to the unsettling trail Julie has left behind—from nursing school flings to office crushes, each love story ending in chaos.

The thing that makes this book so addictive is Julie’s voice. Her perspective is so warped you begin to question whether anything is really amiss in her life. I also loved the dark comedic turns that the story took. This one should be read immediately!!!

omgggg julie tudor is absolutely unhinged and i loved every second of it. if joe goldberg was a middle-aged woman with a spreadsheet addiction and zero remorse—this would be her. this book is pure dark humor with a lil side of murder and obsession (aka my perfect vibe).

i flew through it in about 3 hours. it’s got dual timelines, workplace drama, and the most delusional main character who really thinks she’s living in a rom-com… while lowkey maybe being a serial killer. i couldn’t stop listening because i had to know what chaos she’d unleash next.

def not a deep or heavy read, but such a fun little mind-bending break between books. pitch-black comedy meets psychological thriller—julie’s voice is sharp, chaotic, and hilarious in the worst (best?) way.

if you’re into morally grey, messy characters and love a fast-paced binge, this one’s for you 👀

thank you to netgalley, tantor audio, and the author for the alc in exchange for my honest review 🖤

Big thanks to NetGalley, Sourcebooks Landmark, and Jennifer Holdich for the chance to listen to the audiobook of Julie Tudor Is Not a Psychopath. This was such a darkly addictive listen, I couldn’t stop!

Told entirely from Julie’s point of view, the story immediately pulls you into her wildly delusional (and disturbingly entertaining) world. I especially loved the dual timeline, which added so much tension as past and present slowly collided. Julie is sharp, obsessive, and hilarious in a terrifying kind of way.

She swears she’s not a stalker. Not a serial killer. Not a psychopath. But let’s be real… by the end, it’s clear: yes, Julie is definitely a psychopath, and I loved every twisted second of it.

If you're into clever, unsettling thrillers with unreliable narrators and a wicked sense of humor, Julie Tudor Is Not a Psychopath is 100% worth the listen

This was a fun lighthearted stalker murder book. If those things can even go together. You know its going to be a trainwreck. You know the narrator is off kilter. You know you are going to saw how did you even think that way. But you keep reading to know how its going to crash and burn. I read a lot of dark and twisty murder thrillers. This was a fun twisty thriller that brought a little fun into the kinds of story I like to read. At some points I did feel like it drug on a little bit but other than that and really being able to predict everything it was a fun read.

The title (combined with the cover) definitely caught my attention on this one.

It started out quite entertaining. A little snicker here. A gasp there.

Julie’s outlook and interpretation of events is, well, just delusional.

It gets tedious though as we hear more of the backstory. At some point, it just gets sad.

I’m hard pressed to box this in the thriller category. It’s quite a slow burn with not much happening.

The audio is easy enough to listen to and Clare Corbett does a fine job with multiple voices.

Recommend-maybe, I know some will enjoy this one.

With thanks to NetGalley and RBmedia for the advance listening copy.

Can a book about an unhinged, delusional, and raging female psychopath be fun?

The answer is YES!

Yes, this book about a cringeworthy psychopath took dark humor to new levels.

WHY NOT 5 STARS?
At times, the book was repetitive and too OTT.

(Too many victims?)

I listened to the audiobook, expertly narrated by Clare Corbett.

Special thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

This was a fun read that didn’t take itself too seriously (think beach read meets campy thriller). It kept me hooked enough to binge the entire audiobook in under 24 hours. I found myself cringing (in the best way) at some of Julie’s choices and wondering what exactly made her this way. The book doesn’t really dive into her backstory, but that’s kind of the point…it’s here to entertain, not psychoanalyze.

If you’re expecting a big twist or deep character development, this probably isn’t it. But if you want something fast-paced, quirky, and a little ridiculous in the best way, you’ll enjoy the ride.

This audio is very well done, and the narrator did a phenomenal job. My issue is with the book itself. There are a few things that are hard stops in books for me, and animal cruelty is one of them. To start, I was loving Julie Tudor is Not a Psychopath. I love an unhinged female character, and I was eagerly listening along to find out what she would do next until she killed her cat. Not only that, but she put her taxidermy skills to use. While it's not graphically depicted, it still turned my stomach. Hard stop.

Strong start, strong ending, dragged in the middle. The beginning was so fantastic that I knew I had to finish the book just to see the end. The majority of the book felt slow to me, which is ok. You spend most of the book in the main character's head (which is really cool!) seeing the world through her eyes. I think making the main character a woman instead of a man was a great choice for the story, if it had been a man I don't think I'd have read the book at all, because it would feel too relatable. Not that there aren't female stalkers and killers, there are! but they are far far in the minority, and every woman knows what it's like to be scared walking alone with a man they know -- wondering if he's going to ask you out and get violent if you say no.

I suppose my two main criticisms would be 1. the book necessarily is a lot of 'tell, don't show.' The main character isn't rational; her perception of the world isn't anywhere close to the average person's. It would be very hard to 'show' her logic, because it's so much in her head, but I still didn't enjoy that kind of writing. In moments when the outside world interacts with HER, the writing is much much more 'show don't tell' -- and the juxtaposition between how SHE interprets the world vs how the readers does in those little moments (especially with the neighbor's son) are fantastic, but they feel few and far between. My second criticism is that the main character doesn't change much over the course of the story, she feels static. Sure, she learns between each 'relationship,' but you could rearrange the mini arcs in almost any order and it wouldn't feel off. The story is supposed to be about her over decades, and I never really got a sense of chance over time.

Thanks to NetGalley for the free copy, all opinions are my own.

This was a really unique, bingeable debut novel! I love unhinged characters, and dark humor. This book delivered on both! I had so much fun reading about Julie. The story was unpredictable, and I really enjoyed all of the twists and turns.

Clare Corbett did an excellent job narrating the audiobook as well!

Title: Julie Tudor Is Not a Psychopath
Author: Jennifer Holdich
Narrator: Clare Corbett
Release Date: 07/14/2025

Julie Tudor Is Not a Psychopath is clever, darkly funny, and undeniably well-written. Jennifer Holdich crafts a protagonist who is both charming and unnervingly intense, and the story walks the line between romantic comedy and psychological thriller with surprising ease.

Clare Corbett’s narration is a standout, her performance is sharp, engaging, and perfectly captures Julie’s unsettling mix of bubbly and dangerous. She added real depth to the experience and kept me hooked from start to finish.

That said, I’ll admit this type of story isn’t completely in my comfort zone. I’m not typically a fan of shows like Dexter or You, and at times, the darker themes and morally gray protagonist were a bit more intense than I usually go for. While I appreciated the story’s originality and the writing’s wit, it occasionally leaned into territory that felt a little too twisted for my personal taste.

Still, for readers who enjoy satirical thrillers with a bit of edge and a touch of chaos, this will be a hit. It’s smart, unique, and boldly different. Just don’t go in expecting your average rom-com, Julie Tudor is a whole different kind of heroine.

Thank you to NetGalley and RB Media for the advance audiobook in exchange for an honest review.

✨Audiobook Review✨
📖 Julie Tudor is Not a Psychopath
✍️ Jennifer Holdich
📅 Publication: June 24, 2025
🎤 Clare Corbett

𝐒𝐲𝐧𝐨𝐩𝐬𝐢𝐬
Julie Tudor is not a psychopath.
At 49, she has everything under control, a dream job (because let’s be honest, color-coded spreadsheets are the backbone of any successful office), a gorgeous home (sure, some people whisper about how she paid for it, but nothing’s ever been proven), and the man she’s always wanted.
Julie Tudor is not a stalker.
Sean, 25, is the love of her life. The only hiccup? He thinks he’s in love with someone else.
And Julie Tudor is absolutely, positively not a serial killer.
But she’s been here before. And if there’s one thing Julie has perfected, it’s eliminating the competition.
After all, what’s a little murder when it’s for true love?
𝐌𝐲 𝐓𝐡𝐨𝐮𝐠𝐡𝐭𝐬
Ms. Julie is definitely something else. This book is a fun, quirky, and completely unhinged dive into the mind of a madwoman and the outrageous lengths she’ll go to in order to get what she wants.
I loved how the story alternates between the present and the past, it really helps you piece together who Julie is and why she’s so… well, Julie.
Also, Clare Corbett’s narration is fantastic. She nails Julie’s voice and brings her to life in such a vivid, unsettling way.
While the story kept me entertained, there were moments where it felt a little over the top, which is why I’m landing on 3.5 stars. Still, it’s worth picking up if you enjoy dark humor and unreliable narrators.

Thank You @Netgalley and @TantorAudio for allowing me to review this audiobook.

🗯Thoughts/sassy musings:

🫣>>> this emoji is 100000% the accurate emoji to use. Oh Julie… as I was discussing with @wutheringvines stating that Julie Tudor is unhinged and me responding with no dear girl I AM UNHINGED…Julie is fucking psycho (the title don’t lie)

The narrator is unreliable in the best way that you don’t quite realize (I mean slightly but not full fledged) in the beginning but by the end you know she is so delulu it’s depainfulpainful

I don’t think I’ve cringed so hard over a title character since Lula Dean (IYKYK). I could see how people wouldn’t enjoy this book purely based on the awfulness and in no way funny character that she is. Julie Tudor is THE WORST.

Like gf I’m on your side if a man crossed you but she ain’t no fresh daisy victim. For once in my life I’m saying these guys - did not have it coming.

⭐️⭐️⭐️.75 - ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Julia Tudor is definitely a psychopath and it makes for an enjoyable, if dark, audiobook. Told from Julie’s POV, (and she really is completely unhinged) we never see how she’s perceived by the others she encounters. Since she’s completely immersed in these deranged fantasies, everything seems perfectly normal for Julie.

Strap yourself in for a wild ride and suspend your disbelief. This audiobook is a trip. Clare Corbett’s performance is fantastic. She nails Julie perfectly. And I laughed every single time she said the Facebook.

Sorry, but I didn't really get this book.

I found it to be so slow and monotonous, even when "exciting" things were happening, it didn't feel like they were.

I really like the idea of this book: a funny, middle-aged female serial killer. That sounds like so much fun and it really had so much potential.

I also love the cover, it's giving Murder Barbie. I think it's super fun and cute.

Julie isn't a likable character (and I do think that is on purpose), but she was unlikable in a way that made me not want to read about her or from her perspective. I've read about plenty of unlikable characters, but they usually have something else interesting about them that makes you curious and want to read more. This lacks that. Her jokes don't always land with me as a reader, she's overall creepy, and her obsession felt so disconnected from reality (obviously, that is the point, but there's a right way and a wrong way to do that sort of thing).

I just didn't believe her obsession and the humor didn't hit. Julie has no character depth or character development and that made this book fall so flat for me.

I really wanted to like this book, it sounded so good. But I was disappointed.

Thanks to NetGalley for the audiobook ARC of this book in exchange for my honest review! My Goodreads review is up and my TikTok (Zoe_Lipman) review will be up at the end of the month with my monthly reading wrap-up.

I found it tough to really get invested in this book. Around the 40% mark I was enjoying it and laughing at how truly psychotic Julie was, bless her heart! I feel like the ending was very rushed and didn’t come to a satisfying end for me.

I would however recommend this to my sister in law who I really think will enjoy it!

I’d never thought I’d use the word quirky for a psychopathic stalker, but here I am.

Julie’s character, in a nutshell, is like most people; she has a good job and a lovely house. Maybe she just comes across a bit odd. The thing is, Julie is convinced the love of her life is Sean, but he doesn’t realize it. In fact, Sean is in love with someone else. But Julie will see to that.

Julie is delusional, obsessive, unhinged, a stalker, and a k*ller; you will understand this as you get to spend a lot of time in her head! Although there are moments of dark humor, the narrative becomes repetitive and bogged down in detail. I would have loved more character development for Julie. While we do get a glimpse of her fixation behavior in the past and its results, but why is she like this? What’s her real story? I needed something to push the pace along a bit quicker.

That said, it is a unique thriller with a main character I won’t soon forget.

🎧I loved having the audiobook to tandem read/listen to this book. Clare Corbett's vivid narration perfectly amplified Julie's quirkiness - an excellent choice in narrators!

3.5 ⭐️

I had a really good time with this. Sometimes it’s just nice to sit back and not have to try to feel empathy for the characters. Julie is scary af and at no point in this book did I feel like I was sympathetic to her… That being said, this was FUN!

Twisted and unpredictable in the best way possible, this story will make you question just how realistically we see ourselves and our life choices.
