Oh, half stars on Goodreads, where art thou? The Double Wife on audio was more like a 2.5 in that I stayed the course and didn't DNF, but I've rounded up because #goodreadsneedshalfsies.

Given the plot and characters, this was one of those books which would have benefited with multiple narrators. I struggled trying to stay invested and keep track with who was exactly speaking.

On a personal note to the publisher and/or marketing team, please stop doing this: "The Double Wife: a twisty, page-turning psychological thriller" in your marketing. It's gotten to the point that I not only don't trust your description, but I resent it. The Double Wife was slower than I liked, and spent too much time (the first 2 hours-ish) telling me the husband was missing. Oh, hey guys, did I mention the husband was missing?

Overall not the book for me.

P.S. The husband was missing.

On the evening of her 20th wedding anniversary,Elizabeth Bentley comes across an envelope in her husband Don’s drawer. Although it’s addressed to “my wife”, upon reading the letter, she realizes she is not the wife he is referring to. That same evening, her husband goes missing and the cops come to the house saying they believe Don was involved in an accident and is possibly dead. Now the detectives believe that she had something to do with this disappearance and it is up to Elizabeth to investigate on her own. After a search on social media for the other wife “Corinne”, as well as the discovery of a second home in Don’s assets, Elizabeth finds herself on a plane to California. After confronting Corinne, the two women find themselves working together to find out what happened to their husband. This was a twisty read with an absolutely crazy ending. I listened to the audio and it was really well done.

The narrator did a great job, but it could have been better with a second narrator because of the 2 pov’s. It was a quick listen, but wasn’t attention grabbing, not very twisty & was very predictable. It wasn’t for me, but others may enjoy it.

Elizabeth is planning to have dinner with her husband for their anniversary. He never shows up, but the police do. They tell her that her husband is dead but Elizabeth doesn’t believe it. She does some digging and uncovers many scandalous secrets.

There narrator did a fantastic job and kept me entertained. The story flowed well and it was easy to follow. It has some twist and turns and kept me engaged the whole time.

The book's blurb was very intriguing; however, there were too many unbelievable "things." There is a missing person! The first wife's concern level is way too calm and chill. Even after she finds out about the second wife, she goes to a hotel by the beach? The conversations she has with her children are strange too. She doesn't seem to take it seriously when she finds out her husband is missing and could even be dead. I also felt that the police reaction wasn't "policey" enough! Thank you, NetGalley.

This popcorn thriller starts with a bang - a husband disappears on the eve of his 20th wedding anniversary, and things quickly spiral when it’s revealed that… he had more than one wife. Add in a missing body, a suspicious accident, and a tangle of lies, and it sounds like a compulsive, twisty ride. Unfortunately, while the setup is compelling, the pacing and payoff left me wanting more.

The novel opens with Elizabeth preparing to celebrate two decades of marriage - until her husband fails to come home. A hidden love note hints at a secret second wife, and soon after, the police arrive to inform her that her husband is presumed dead. Desperate for answers, Elizabeth tracks down the other woman - Corinne - and together they try to unravel the truth. One wife lives in suburban comfort, the other barely scraping by. But neither is quite what they seem, and the truth turns out to be darker than either expected.

While the premise had all the makings of a gripping domestic suspense novel, the first half dragged. The audiobook spent nearly two hours circling the same “Where is my husband?” question with little momentum. The characters - especially the two wives - difficult to connect with, and the story gave little reason to care about the fate of a two-timing husband whose motivations are never explored in depth.

I kept hoping for a jaw-dropping twist or a clever turn of events to redeem the slow pace, but the ending felt flat and anticlimactic. Even the epilogue lacked the closure I was looking for.

This one had the bones of a binge-worthy thriller, but the execution was too pedestrian for me. If you love twisty domestic thrillers, you might enjoy the premise - but temper expectations when it comes to pacing and payoff.

This story left me in some suspense. I was invested to find out what happened to the husband.
Without giving it away the ending caught me off guard.
The narrator sometimes sounded mechanical.

Elizabeth finds a letter written to her husband's wife. She opens it finding it written to someone else. Later her husband goes missing and then pronounced dead without a body. This is definitely a page turner that I enjoyed. 4 stars

Many thanks to Net Galley and Dreamscape Media for an audio ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review.

Thanks to #NetGalley and #DreamscapeMedia for the book #TheDoubleWife by #GinaLaManna. I really enjoyed this book full of deception, lies and conspiracies. Elizabeth has just found out that her husband Don is presumed dead, falling through ice while fishing. The police suspect her but maybe they should suspect someone else, being as he has another wife. What happened to Don and is he still alive? Is he really married to two women?

Gina LaManna’s The Double Wife is a gripping psychological thriller that takes readers on a wild and unexpected ride. When two women discover they’ve both been married to the same man—who has now mysteriously vanished—their worlds collide in a web of secrets, betrayal, and suspense. From the outset, the premise hooks you, and LaManna skillfully unravels the mystery through multiple perspectives that add depth and intensity to the narrative.

The alternating points of view are a standout feature, offering insight into each woman’s emotions, suspicions, and personal stakes. As the layers peel back, the story delivers twist after twist, each more surprising than the last. The pacing is tight, the tension is high, and the stakes continue to climb all the way to a satisfying and well-executed conclusion.

The Double Wife is a smart and addictive read, perfect for fans of domestic thrillers who love unexpected turns and complex female leads. LaManna delivers another winner.

This is exactly the kind of domestic psychological thriller that I love! A happy wife with a perfect life discovers a pager and letter her husband has written to his other wife (!!) in his bedside table...and we get to follow along as her life unravels from great to good to oh my goodness, who even *was* her husband?

On the eve of her anniversary, the police visit Elizabeth Bentley to tell her they suspect her husband is dead, victim to a tragic ice fishing accident. But Elizabeth can't believe her cautious husband would go out on ice during an early spring thaw. Left to her own devices, Elizabeth starts searching for her husband, and begins by tracking down the mystery woman he has been writing to.

Together, these women dig into their husband's past. No one is who they seem, and no one can be trusted!

I don't think you'll see the plot twists coming! I don't want to say anything else so that all of you enjoy the crazy twists.

I enjoyed the story and the narrator. While some of the twists were a little unbelievable, I do think that there are men out there that live double lives...so it isn't that farfetched. I mean...do any of us really know our spouses?!? Can't wait to read the next one from Gina LaManna.

Thank you Netgalley for this ARC.

Mystery and twists grabbed me right away. The idea was really interesting, and I wanted to see how everything would unfold. As the surprises kept coming, I had to accept some moments that felt hard to believe. If you’re okay with just going along for the ride, this might be a great fit.
The pacing kept me hooked without feeling rushed or dragging, and the way the plot pieces connected felt natural enough to follow. Some twists were definitely wild, but that added to the excitement rather than pulling me out of the story.

I’m usually more into stories that feel realistic, so that part was tricky for me, but the energy and suspense kept me wanting to know more. This book asked me to trust its world and enjoy the unexpected, which I did.

I should have known.....books that have the tag "A Twisty, page-turning psychological thriller" always are so B rated-make that C rated. This is like a made for TV movie--but not even a good channel, maybe like made for the CW channel. The writing was so elementary, and I say that as a person who is no where close to nit picky when it comes to prose. Repeated phrases and 5th grade level text.
Two women find out their husband is missing and come to find out its the same man! One has lived a life of privalege and the other is barely scraping by.Once the truth comes out it is even more sinister/twisted than you can imagine.
The premise of this book was really good, however the execution was very pedestrian. The ending I was really hoping for a big twist or something shocking, but it was very anti climatic.

This must be the Summer of dumb women,...I have read so many books this summer where women allow men to walk all over them. I mean your husband claims to be on "busines" 70% of the time...and never picks up his phone on the weekends? Dumb Dumb Dumb.....

Don't be like these women, dont waste your time on this book.

Thank you net galley for allowing me to review this advanced copy of The Double Wife. Iwas no paid for my honest original review.

From the beginning I was hooked! Throughout the book I didn’t know who I wanted to blame or be mad at I swear I was torn going back and forth. The way this audio kept me engaged was awesome! In the end you can say I was shook because it was not what I was expecting!

This one had me pulled in and wondering right away. Great domestic thriller that is a bit of a slow burn but totally worth it. A lot of characters to keep up with but the ending was a complete surprise to me. Not what I was expecting which made me like it even more. Great narration and creative ending by the author.

Meh. I was hoping for more. I thought there would be a more engaging story line, but the “other wife” seemed drab, annoying and so, so depressing. She was all “woe is me” - um, lady, you know you’re the side piece. We don’t feel sorry for you. Her daughter was annoying too. This one fell very short for me. However, I did read it fast - I kept reading it bc I hoped there would be more!

A good even-paced popcorn thriller with an enticing story. This one gets right to the point and the mystery starts unraveling almost immediately. With a suspicious cast of characters including an eccentric high-powered husband and a former con-woman “other wife,” you never know who to trust. Overall an enjoyable popcorn thriller. Not too deep, just entertaining with some good twists. Although I would have loved some more explanation from the husband’s point of view, I really felt this was missing.

Also although the narration was good, I do wish there would have been 2 narrator for this dual POV story.

The Double Wife hooks you right away! A twisty web of mystery, deceit, and just the right amount of messiness from the characters.
Easy to follow, intriguing and quickly paced.
Audio narrated by Tegan Ashton Cohan is easy to listen to and understand.
Highly recommend!

Full of twists and drama. A missing husband but his wife finds evidence that he's living a double life. Some of the things seemed a little predictable but the final twist I definitely didn't see coming. Very enjoyable thriller.
