I read this as an ARC and it has some laugh out loud moments I really enjoyed. At first I felt like we were really going through a lot of day to day but then I realized - that’s the point! Juliet does such a great job of having us in Miri’s mind and feelings that everything I was experiencing our FMC was going through, her impotence, her rage, her depression all of it

Also thank you Juliet for bringing back the old school fairy lore. I’m into hot brooding fae don’t get me wrong but I grew up reading about fairy rings, and different courts and fae being bound by their words and the power of true names, changelings and iron being poison and to that integrated in the text- chef’s kiss.

I can’t wait to read more- hopefully this is the first in a series.

This was such a fun read! it includes proper fae lore (no lying, don’t eat their food, etc.) in a contemporary setting which I loved and I don't tend to see a lot. I Would definitely recommend, it was very funny but did have some millennial bits. I did find it funny that she's in corporate and her company was aptly named Tartarus (Greek version of hell).

Prior to starting A Fae in Finance, I was certain I would relate to the main character, Miri, as I work in the corporate finance world. But the similarities didn’t stop there, I’m also bi and an obsessed cat mom. I really enjoyed reading Miri’s adventure through the world of Faerie. The highlight for me were the characters from Faerie. One of my favorite tropes is when characters are unfamiliar with sayings/customs/etc of a new world (a la Thor when he first visits earth) and I think Juliet Brooks does a wonderful job of writing endearing characters. The book also includes a few top tier insults that I will definitely try to work into my day to day life going forward!

This was such a fun book! The author's sense of humour was exactly my style, and I had such a great time reading this. I loved Miri as the main character, I thought she was relatable and realistic, making the best of the bad situation she found herself in. The bisexual representation was also great to see! I really loved all of the side characters as well, especially Lene, Sahir, and Gaheris! They were such a fun group. The quest plot was very entertaining, and I also thought the concept of 'human lessons' was fun and entertaining. Overall, I had a great time with this book and am excited for the sequel! :)

3.5⭐️

Thanks to NetGalley, the publisher and the author for the ARC in exchange for an honest.

A Fae in Finance is such a fun take about a woman experiencing existential depression in a horrible job environment with a difficult boss and not very helpful colleagues. Miri is trapped in Faerie after eating faerie food and is immediately worried about her cat, Doctor Kitten. She makes friends, goes on a quest and figures out her life while being a prisoner in Faerie. Includes bisexual representation. Would recommend to people looking for a funny story about a woman in a bad situation making the best of things.

This book has everything: An ineffective and mean boss, cat friends, cool magic, and faeries who can't understand human idioms.

A Fae in Finance is funny, inventive, and an easy read. The book starts off strong, introducing us to the protagonist who grew up reading fantasy books, is justice minded, and is trying to do some good under capitalism a few years after magical creatures have started showing up in New York. A snappily-paced plot finds her stuck in faerie and on a quest to get back to the human world. The book manages to cram in cool magic, the banal terror of a shitty job with shitty colleagues, and fae bargains. That said, the real highlight are the constant snortable jokes and the characters who became my friends by the end of the book. This is an incredible debut novel and I'm raring to read book 2 in the series.

Thanks to the author for providing me an advanced copy as a beta reader.
