This book is so fun and creative! Office drama with fae??? IMMEDIATELY YES. Probably 3.5-3.75ish stars if we’re being technical, but I’m rounding up to 4 stars and will absolutely be checking out any future books in this series.
I wouldn’t call A FAE IN FINANCE cozy fantasy, but it’s cozy-adjacent. There are found family elements and overall the book has the unserious quality you’d find in a cozy. There’s some hints at romance, a pet cat, a literal cat lady, and of course a quest. But there are a few things that set this book apart. One, it’s very witty, and the humor tends to be on the dry side as opposed to silly or whimsical. Two, the corporate world setting is such a fresh take on fae/supernatural elements. The scenes set in Miri’s office or over Teams are easily the best parts of the book. Clearly Juliet Brooks is familiar with the monotony of a 9 to 5, because she GETS IT. Imagine sitting in a meeting with your incompetent coworkers, same old same old, and then a fae prince who CAN’T LIE joins the call to provide feedback on your product. Imagine you go to pick up lunch and the office cafeteria is serving blood shakes to accommodate the vampires you work with. I could read a whole book’s worth of content like this. It’s just absolute gold.
Where A FAE IN FINANCE starts to lose me is when it shifts to full-on fantasy. Once Miri enters the realm of Faerie, everything unique and wonderful about this book all but falls away. It’s so strong when it’s grounded in a real world setting, but without that, the story begins to make less and less sense, the characters are flatter, and it’s just not as interesting. Another issue I had was that there were a few things kept very vague or just flat out left unresolved, I assume because this is the first in a series, but they didn’t feel like “teasers” so much as plot holes or just inattention to detail. Like I said, I will be continuing the series for sure, so I’ll be curious to see if/when these things come up in future installments.
Thank you to NetGalley and Orbit Books for providing a review copy. All opinions are my own.

Brooks is new author for me, and in spite of the expectations that creates, I ended up enjoying this book very much. It was funny and loveable and flowing, all characters I usually require in a novel.

I was looking forward to reading this book and the premise seemed interesting but for me it just fell a bit short of where it probably could have been. Whilst i enjoyed some of the world building aspects, overall i felt the characters weren't fleshed out enough and the story almost dragged on throughout the book with not a great deal happening for the most part.
I would still recommend others to read this book that aren't looking for a super heavy fantasy world :)

“A Fae in Finance” follows a human girl named Miriam. Her whole life revolves around her work trying to close the divide between humans and magical creatures such as fae.
This book reads as a Young Adult contemporary novel with a splash of fantasy. It touches on mental health representation as well.
A real highlight for this novel is the developed friendships the main character has in the second half of the novel.

DNF around 20%. It’s like Assistant to the Villian slowiest of slow slow fae story all over again. No thanks.
I did receive an Arc for my review from the publisher.

This was so cute and super enjoyable. I will look for more books by this author. I loved the characters as well as the story itself.
Thanks Netgalley and author/publisher for thr ARC!

I highly enjoyed this read! It honestly made me laugh, like... Out loud, multiple times. That's definitely on the rare side for me! The humor was solid. It wasn't overly silly, it was just right for me. It was absolutely a cozy and comforting read.
I loved how magic collided with modern life. The miscommunication, while I'm not usually a fan, was done very well!
I loved Doctor Kitten, and the inner monologues from Miri were both relatable and absolutely hilarious. The faerie who sits in a courtyard and screams at irregular intervals? An absolute mood.
There's good yearning, but romance isn't the driving force behind the plot.
Overall I would absolutely recommend this book, especially for the fans of romcoms and lighthearted fantasy. If you enjoyed Assistant to the Villain? I think you'll like this one!

This was so fun and silly and a good time! I don't usually read fae books but I had a great time with this. I expected more romance, but I found myself really loving the found family vibes and discussion of how important home can be to a person's health.

This was so cute and super enjoyable. I will look for more books by this author. I loved the characters as well as the story itself.

Investment banker Miri is purposely trapped in the "world" of Faerie by her client and POS boss and needs to overcome this new reality and find a way back to her life. This is a lighthearted, full-of-banter book but it just feel flat for me. I felt this would've been a great premise for a younger demographic, and I just didn't enjoy reading this.
Great for those who like cheerful, funny reads. For me, the characters fell flat, the dialogue was pretty rudimentary, and the plot was not worthy of the ~400 page length. Maybe the author is setting up for the rest of the series - I was looking forward to reading this one, but unfortunately it really wasn't worth the time I spent on it.
Thanks to the publisher for an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

Charming, hilarious and absolutely down-right absurd. A Fae In Finance was incredibly fresh.
Miri, the main, character goes through a lot in this book. Somehow she handles it with grace. And lots and lots of patience. Honestly, if I had been in her shoes, I would have lost my mind. Especially with the backdrop of corporate America!
In a world of romantasy and revising the classic faerie tropes, I was pleasantly surprised to go into this and be met with my tried and true classic fae. Cannot tell lies? Check. They find humans strange? Check. They delight in the odd and mundane? Check. Otherworldly? Check, check and check. Also, Miri has a cat. And the cat is arguably the best part of the book.
No spoilers, but! Miri is a blast to read from her POV, the way she sees the world her around is absolutely hilarious. The title being A Fae in Finance leads one to expect some romance, yes? Yes. Gear up, because the romance in this takes many twists and turns and you will not know where you’re coming or going, much like being lost in Faerie.
All in all, a delightful read. An easy way to pass the time to be sure! Juliet Brooks has really sold me on her version of Faerie. I’m very curious to see where she goes next.

A fantastic read! Filled with magic and fantasy, intrigue and compassion, suspense and laughter. As a former high-level consultant, I could relate to Miri's battles with her POS boss Jeff and the mind-numbing compliance of her beaten-down colleagues. I loved the traveling with her fairy companions, the interaction with the builder (with a touch of Monty Python?) and the queen. The fairy reactions to the human world were precious! And the last interactions with Jeff made me want to cheer out loud! This book is a great escape from reality and simply a fun ride! I can't wait for the sequel!

Poor Miri stuck in a toxic work culture forced to be a workaholic, trying her best to help fae and humans integrate in the mortal realm.
This is a cozy fantasy with very little/no romance.
I was really struggling to like the fmc she was still yet to grow a backbone or ask any questions of substance. Every time
Something happened she kind of just forgot about it.
While I enjoyed the story, It felt like the characters were just not as fleshed out as they could be.
If you’re after a read similar to assistant to the villain I would recommend.
Thank you NetGally for the chance to review this book.

Thank you NetGalley for providing me with this arc for an honest review.
Unfortunately, this book wasn’t for me. I felt myself not wanting to pick it up. I didn’t feel very connected to the characters and two characters called Nele and Lene was just too confusing for me. Nothing much was going on. I honestly never really like cozy fantasies but I expected this to be a bit more action-packed. That may have been a mistake on my end.
I feel like this book would be perfect for everyone who loves a cozy fantasy!

This was a cute read but not really a book for me. It has a lot of humor and silly moments and feels quite cozy. The characters are easy to love and I feel like the premise is pretty unique. I can see so many people loving this, especially fans of the Assistant to the Villain series. Even thought this wasn’t quite my ideal book, I know so many people I will be recommending this one to!
If you enjoy fantasy books with lighter world building and some pretty fun humor, I think this would be a perfect book for you!

This was the perfect cozy fantasy book! It's a fun easy read that introduces you to lots of weird and wonderful Fae. There were times in the story where plot points or characters felt underdeveloped but overall a really enjoyable read!

The premise of this book had me hooked as soon as I read it so I knew the book would do the same! I cannot even begin to describe the laughter, feelings, and thoughts this book brought forward! Such a perfect cozy fantasy

A Fae in Finance is a lighthearted and cozy fantasy with a fun, quirky premise that mixes corporate life with magical mayhem. Miri’s adventures in Faerie are entertaining, though some character moments feel a bit shallow and certain plot threads are dropped too quickly. The humor and whimsical worldbuilding carry the story, making it an enjoyable, breezy read. It’s a solid start that leaves room for deeper character exploration in future installments.

Thank you NetGalley for giving me this ARC in exchange of an honest review.

This was actually so fun!
The writing was easy to follow and I really liked the characters. The one thing that really bothered me was that something happened between the characters and than it was just dropped and barely addressed again... which was weird, but overall a good book.

DNF @50%. This just wasn't for me. I love cozy fantasies but this lacked depth and I couldn't connect with the characters.
