I was excited to pick this up! Surprisingly, it was the only fae book I could find at the time, and the cover was so cute! The premise is fairly light and accessible, with a good part of the story set in the “real world” which makes it a great choice for readers new to the genre.
The humor leaned toward slapstick and situational, which gave it a playful tone, though a few moments didn’t quite land for me personally. The pacing stayed consistent throughout, but I found it a little harder to connect with the main character. That said, I can see how her personality would really click with readers who enjoy bold, over-the-top FMCs.
All in all, this is a quirky, comical read for anyone wanting to dip a toe into fantasy. While it wasn’t quite my personal style, I know it will hit the mark for the right audience.

this was funnn
i don't typically read or enjoy fantasy, so this was a breath of fresh air that didn't make me feel stupid.
the writing was fun and easy to read and miri was a great protagonist.
one thing i found hard to follow was how the two worlds – human and magical – blended together. it felt like stuff just got handwaved as "that's just how it works", so i think the series should try to explore the worldbuilding a bit more.
another issue i had was with the relationship pacing. something happened, with little to no build up, and then it was promptly dropped and barely addressed again. it felt like there was no proper resolution.
overall this was quite a nice read and something i'll definitely recommend to anyone who wants a palate cleanser to suspend their disbelief. just roll with it. don't think too much.

This was such a funny and cozy feeling fantasy for me! I definitely recommend this to readers who would enjoy a humorous fantasy filled with fae and a magical time with a bit of romance 😊

🖤Thank you NetGalley for this eARC!

Not a book that I was expecting. It could have gone into more detail regarding her being half fae. Needed more with sahir or the grey Knight. Epilogue did not really add anything. 3 stars. Easy read.

DNF at 16%. Despite this being a DNF, I think the story itself had fun potential, so I’m giving it 3 stars. Personally I am not getting along well with the writing. I was really struggling with pushing through to get more into the story vs just giving up, and I decided to give up. If you aren’t as picky with writing style as me, you’ll probably enjoy this book. Like I said, the story itself seemed like a fun one, I just couldn’t force myself past the writing style.

I had no idea what to expect from this, but I was delighted to find that A Fae in Finance to be exactly what I needed. The story follows Miri who unfortunately gets trapped in the Fae realm when she is visiting for a business dinner. Her boss, the worst man to possibly live, decides she can just work remotely and leaves her there??? The audacity of that man I swear to god, seeing his name cross the page made my blood boil. It’s hard to describe exactly what the vibe is of A Fae in Finance, but it was very unique. A fascinating blend of urban fantasy but also had components of traditional fantasy novels as well (questing). The star of the show for me was Doctor Kitten (Miri’s cat), I absolutely adore an animal sidekick. If you are a fan of The Spellshop or Emily Wilde’s Encyclopedia of Faeries, I think you will enjoy A Fae in Finance. Definitely a unique and fun take on faeries, with a compelling story!

Unfortunately this one didnt hit for me. I do love the cheeky name and I think this will find its readers. I have already recommended it to several friends that I know like this style.

Sadly… another DNF 🫣
This book had so much potential!!!
🎶 I’m looking for a guy in finance, 6’5”, blue eyes🎶
It just felt clunky and like it dragged on foreverrrrrrrrrrr. I feel like nothing was explained really, and uggggh, I wanted to like this so much!

Thank you NetGalley for the ARC
DNF around 40%
I couldn’t get into this, and I tried so hard because the premise sounded so good. I just didn’t connect with the writing style, or the characters. I do think this will find its target audience, it just wasn’t for me.

A Fae in Finance was cozy and fun and altogether a good time. I think the world building really worked for this type of story.

Thank you to NetGallery and Orbit for the arc.
3 stars 🌟
A Fae in Finace is an easy, fun and cozy read. If you decide to read this book, you will be enchanted and giggely throughout this book

What drew me to read this was the appeal of the blend of a woman’s mundane corporate life clashing with the incongruous wonder of the supernatural world once she’s trapped in Faerie. What a fun set up for a story right? Unfortunately this was one of those books where the premise was better than the actual story.
With emphasis on the mundane, for much of the story we were just following a pushover doormat that logged in, day in and day out to a job that she hated while having to deal with a nasty caricature of a boss. Sure Miri was in Faerie, but it felt like a low budget Faerieland where the Faes in the court lived in a very dorm style-like environment and where they ate in a cafeteria with food served from a buffet line. I get this wasn’t a high fantasy, but the setting was just not very transportive; there was not enough details to make me believe I was anywhere different than say a small town in Kansas.
The story was also not very cohesive, it was just a mash up of different events of the few times Miri wasn’t at her computer. I would say the best thing about the book was Doctor Kitten, because cats just make everything better.
Although I did get some laughs during this read, I can’t say that I wasn’t disappointed I didn’t enjoy this more.
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for the e-ARC in exchange for my honest review.

DNF at 30%
Thanks to NetGalley and Orbit for the ARC
Unfortunately I couldn’t get into this, the synopsis sounded interesting to me but at 30% in I had to put this down.
The story was slow paced and I struggled to connect to the characters, I didn’t feel like the main character had any relationship or chemistry with anyone else and therefore wasn’t invested in where the romance was supposed to go. The speech between the characters wasn’t for me either and I couldn’t get immersed in the world.

Four stars, lived how whimsical and cozy it was. Almost like a cross between Emily Wilde and Assistant to the Villian.

A Fae in Finance was such a fun, light read! I loved the mix of workplace drama and a touch of fae magic—it made the story feel fresh and entertaining. The writing is super easy to get into, and I flew through it in just a couple of sittings.
It’s not heavy on worldbuilding, but that actually worked for me because it kept things light and fast-paced. Overall, it was just a really enjoyable, feel-good book. Perfect if you want something quick, whimsical, and a little different.
Thank you Net Galley for providing me with an ARC of this book. All opinions in this review are my own.

It was a fun book. I really liked the way the story was told. It was super relaxed, fluid, and easy to follow. It was entertaining, and I loved the lessons about the human world. I think it achieved what the premise proposed. I also think the author did a great job conveying the anger toward the boss, the passive-aggressive attitudes, and how someone working in a toxic environment ends up dealing with the situation. I'm not giving it a higher rating because I didn't really get a feel for the romantic relationships in the book, and I felt there were some loose ends.

I requested this without knowing much about it besides it being a workplace comedy about a human in a fae land. This was a great cozy read with top tier found family. If silly books that don’t take themselves too seriously than this would be perfect for you.
It’s not a typical cozy book that focuses more on slice of life type situations but more of a low stakes fantasy that focuses on the character interactions instead. Great humor, some bisexual representation, and some mild scheming. I had a really great time with this.
You do have to suspend a little disbelief for this one but it’s totally worth it. If you’re looking for a palate cleaner fantasy book, would recommend checking it out. Would be interested in more books in this world.
Thank you to NetGalley and the author/publisher for an early copy of this title in exchange for an honest review.

DNF
Unfortunately, I decided to DNF this book at 52%. Coming into this book, I thought the concept would be great, but the execution was not doing it for me. I just found that the pace was kind of slow and that was primarily due to the fact that there did not seem to be a lot of plot progression, and it was stagnant. I just could not get into it or continue because there was not much of a plot to grasp onto nor was I that invested in the characters either to keep going. I kept hoping that as I got further, there would be something to change the trajectory or get me excited, but eventually I decided to not continue.

A Fae in Finance is a workplace comedy with a light sprinkle of fantasy and romance. I think this is partially why the book didn’t work for me, because I went in expecting more fantasy and more romance. The humor mostly fell flat for me as did the plot. There are large chunks of time where nothing really happens to move the plot or character development forward, so I didn’t feel any tension or excitement from the story.
It seemed to me that the fantasy/fae aspect of the story was mainly there to poke fun at fae fantasy. The main character points out that the fae prince is the perfect “I could fix him” love interest, but that she would never fall for that. Maybe this would have worked if I felt like there was any chemistry between her and her two potential love interests, but I didn’t see anything there to keep me interested. The fae are also characterized oddly. They are supposed to be cunning enough to trick humans with the truth but had no basic understanding of human social practices and cruelty. This infantilized the fae characters.
There could be something in A Fae in Finance for people who want a contemporary workplace comedy with just a touch of fantasy. For me, the story didn’t work.

ARC review
Publication date 21 October 2025.
Miri is an investment banker that get trapped in Faerie by one of the bank's clients.
I received an e-ARC from Orbit Books (via Netgalley).
Opinions from this review are completely my own.
This is a cozy fantasy, but with corporate (over)worked characters.
I do not know how Miri survived with that work schedule.
It has a lot of humour and it is modern.
I did not connect so well with the story in the start and the online meetings and remote work was too close to my reality.
But the characters are interesting and I ended up liking the story overall.
There is just a bit of romance that I would have liked to be more developed.
My favorite characters were Sahir and Doctor Kitten.
