Sharks is a great informational book that details various facts about different species of sharks, clearly aimed at an early to middle elementary (1st-3rd) demographic. While I feel like the way the information was presented doesn't feel completely eye catching, the questions recap for readers, and the font that is easy to read is great for readers who might struggle with attention problems or retaining information

How I would arrange in a display: Nonfiction Animals, Marine Life, Our Great Big World (with other megafauna)

I was able to preview this book thanks to NetGalley and the publisher.

I found this book to be interesting and able to capture a child's attention. The pictures and descriptions were clear and interesting to see and read and were just right for a child in about 4th or 5th grade although children in other grades could love looking at the pictures and could benefit from having it read as read-aloud.

I would recommend this book to any parent or teacher of children who want to learn more about sharks.

I thought the quality of the images was really great. It was pretty easy to follow, and it was a decent introduction to sharks in my opinion! The questions are the end were easy to place back in the different sections, and the answers were simple ones—easy to recall if you payed attention.

I would say, this is definitely for younger ages, and if your kid is an avid reader, I think lower the age range from 7-9 to more like 6-7 years old. I definitely know I would have been bored reading this at 9, and would have finished it in like 10 minutes! Although, I do still think it’s a simple introduction if it’s a new subject!

Sharks is a simple and straightforward non-fiction introduction to sharks that would be a great resource for younger readers. There are sections on anatomy, life cycle, and even some review questions at the end. I can see this being used in an early elementary school setting.

Thanks to North Star Kids and NetGalley for an eARC of this book for an honest review.

Not at all unique in the world of the 'my first shark book', this is still a fine one. You learn some trivia and superlatives, and the basics of the creatures – even if it has to explain things useful to the general biologist rather than the shark specialist, such as what an apex predator, or a habitat, is. And having said that, many teachers may welcome this for giving us the wide-reaching background, but I bet if those definitions are covered in the rest of this series it will get repetitive fast. Still, I thought this was a highly pictorial, four star success, and in a fortnight (about which time many sharks will already be on to their next set of teeth) I'll think the same.

Children (5-7) will like this book. Readers of other shark books won’t find a lot of new information in this book but it’s enjoyable and informative.

SHARKS written by Alex Hall has everything to pique a child’s interest about these denizens of the sea. The book is filled with pictures of various types of shark plus lots of up to date data in an easy to understand presentation.

Where do sharks live? Near the shore of in the deeps of the open ocean. What do sharks do? They are among the best swimmers, sleek and speedy that also makes them the best hunters. What is special about their bodies? They are usually dark on top and light colored on the bottom that makes them hard to notice until they’re too close to get away.

These are just of few of the fascinating facts your child will learn in this intriguing book. And best yet (for the child anyway) it explains why shark poo is so important to the environment.

This book will make a wonderful gift from gramps or uncle to their future marine biologist.
