As core to comics as the illustrations are, a great story is essential. Marvel's delivered that for decades, and some of the writers' bon mots became eminently quotable.

New in bookstores and online on October 7, Marvel Comics Classic Quotes: Quotes Assemble! Insights from Earth’s Mightiest Heroes collects a few dozens of these lines in book form, paired with segments of panels and covers from the same eras. Set in large, bold, Futura type, the quotes deliver a visual whollop.

While it's obviously a quick read, it nonetheless makes a nice coffee table book. It's a wide cross-section of Marvel Comics' iconic characters, with just one quote only from anyone who made the cut. Spread over 96 pages, there's a healthy variety of decades represented, from the earliest issues to recent releases.

The broad but brief focus of this title will be followed up in January with The Wit & Wisdom of Spider-Man: Quotes & Life Lessons from Your Favorite Superhero, also chosen by author Robb Pearlman.

Pearlman is extremely prolific, with 80 books to his name. For Cedar Mill Press, his previous titles include Fun with Dick and Jane parody Fun with Kirk and Spock, and Search for Spock, an elaborately illustrated image search book.

Marvel Comics Classic Quotes is a crowd-pleasing stocking stuffer, but hopefully also the intro of a continuing series of deep-dives, starting with Spider-Man.

A digital copy of this book was provided through NetGalley.

Colorful and nostalgic collection of Marvel quotes, a real pleasure to flip through and revisit favorite heroes. I only wish there were more rare lines and original artwork, and that every quote came with an illustration, but overall I really enjoyed it.

Thanks to netgalley & Cider mill press for this!
There is a great variety of quotes in this book. From inspiring to hilarious! I have a somewhat limited knowledge of marvel, but I found the book interesting. If you’re a big fan of marvel then you’ll probably really enjoy this.

I’d like to thank NetGalley for the opportunity to read this book for free for an honest opinion

It’s a quick read but a long look and flip through the art work classic and more modern looks for the caped hero’s.

Some of the comics I hadn’t heard of so it was informative also.

I think it would be a great coffee table book easy to read but interesting

I really enjoyed this title. There were some really motivational and inspirational quotes throughout, as well as plenty of quotes even readers who don't know Marvel intimately will be aware of through popular culture. The only real critique I have is that the lines "It's Clobberin' Time" by The Thing and "Hulk Smash" by The Hulk are so transcendent and iconic they both deserve their own individual pages rather than being put together

It’s what it says on the tin. If you’re looking for quotes from Marvel comics, this book has some.

Thanks to NetGalley and Cider Mill Press for the ARC.

The illustrations are clear and colourful, the quotes and cover are nicely designed in a layout that beautifully contrasts the artwork. For fans of the series, be it the comics or the movies, there are recognisable and trademark quotes that any level of fan can connect with.

Not a lot of depth or new details for die-hard fans but a pretty publication nonetheless. This is a nice coffee table book or collectible to decorate a Marvel comic book fan’s shelf.

Thank you to Cider Mill Press and NetGalley for this ARC for review; all opinions are my own.

This is such a quick, fun, and lovely read! I really enjoyed getting to relive so many moments from so many of the characters that I grew up with, and it made me want to go back to some of those stories and read them all over again. The mixture of classic panel art and portrait work in this book is beautiful. I love the amount of care that was so obviously taken when compiling these quotes and artworks. Any true believer would love to have this in their collection and on their coffee tables! I can’t wait to purchase it and have it on mine.

Many thanks to Cider Mill Press, Robb Pearlman and Netgalley for this advanced copy

As a lifelong comic fan I thoroughly enjoyed flicking through this collection of quotes. The mix of iconic lines and some lesser-known gems, paired with colourful artwork, made it a cheerful trip down memory lane. While it’s a quick read and not deeply analytical, the charm lies in revisiting favourite characters and their memorable words. Perfect for a casual browse, coffee-table display, or a gift for anyone who’s grown up loving these heroes.

⭐️⭐️⭐️ (3/5 stars)

Marvel Comics Classic Quotes is a fun little collection for die-hard fans of the Marvel universe, bringing together memorable lines from iconic heroes and villains. Robb Pearlman curates the quotes with an eye for inspiration and humor, making it a light, quick read that works well as a gift or coffee-table book. The colorful design and comic-style presentation are definitely a plus.

However, while it’s enjoyable, the book feels more like a novelty than something deeply engaging. Also there should have been more illustration or say on-paper picturization of the real published comics to support the quotes rather than on Black background. Many quotes are ones fans have already seen countless times in comics or movies, so there’s not much new insight or commentary. A bit more context, backstory or even lesser-known gems would have elevated the experience.

Overall, it’s entertaining for casual flipping and nostalgia, but not essential reading unless you’re a hardcore Marvel enthusiast looking to add to your collection.

Marvel Comics Classic Quotes is a coffee table book. Each page has a famous Marvel Comic Quote and artwork on the facing page.
I have been a comic fan, with a strong love of Marvel for my whole life. I was really excited to crack this open and see how this would be presented. I think they did a good job of capturing the catchphrases of major Marvel characters.
Where I think the book is weakest is in the artwork. Not in the art itself, there is a great variety of killer art. It's on the presentation. When there is a direct quote form an issue, the art paired with it was usually not the page the quote came from. When it says it's from Issue 45, I would have expected to see that page from issue 45. As a big comic fan, I wish they had credited the penciler and inker for each piece. I think both would encourage people who get this book to seek out more Marvel.
Overall I like the book and it's idea, just would have like to see more of an archivist look at the quotes.

This one was a really fun collection of quotes and panels on pages from a wide variety of Marvel comics that demonstrated the huge range of stories and characters the universe has to offer. I've really enjoyed all these fun books that Robb Pearlman has been putting out.

Special Thanks to Cider Mill Press and Netgalley for the digital ARC. This was given to me for an honest review.

Great coffee table book for any Marvel or MCU fans.

I enjoyed the layout of quotes and panels. As others have mentioned, I was hoping for some more obscure quotes to be included but overall a very nice-looking book that’s a quick easy read and also easy to pick up randomly to flip through and read a quote here and there.

A pretty quick read, but it has some good quotes in it, besides that "Great power, great responsibility" jazz we've all heard a hundred times.

Marvel Comics Classic Quotes: Quotes Assemble! Insights from Earth’s Mightiest Heroes by Robb Pearlman is fun, quick, and full of memorable lines, but it’s also a missed opportunity.

I read this as an ARC ebook, and it’s the kind of book you can breeze through in 30 minutes. It collects some of Marvel’s most iconic quotes: “It’s Clobberin’ Time!”, “Hulk Smash!”, “Sweet Christmas!”, and so many more. Fans will enjoy revisiting these classics, and newcomers will get a taste of Marvel’s humor, heroism, and heart.

That said, this book could have been so much more:
• More artwork and panels showing the quotes in their original context.
• Organization by decade or era (Silver Age, Bronze Age, etc.) with a bit of context for each era.
• Indexes by character and by creator, and more recognition of the writers and artists behind these lines. Remember, not everything was Jack and Stan.

It’s a fun collection, but with just a few tweaks, it could have been a must-have coffee table book for Marvel fans. If you love quotes, classic comic lines, and a quick nostalgia trip through Marvel’s history, you’ll enjoy this.

Some of my personal favorite quotes I wish were included:

Spider-Man: “Your friendly neighborhood Spider-Man!”
Thor: “By Ymir’s frost-covered beard, art thou mad?”
Captain America: “One man can win a war. Give that one man a group of soldiers with the same conviction, and you can change the world.”
Kitty Pryde: “Professor Xavier is a jerk!”

A fun read for casual fans and a nostalgic hit for longtime Marvel lovers. Just don’t expect a fully curated or comprehensive collection.

Classics! Enjoyable nostalgic reflection on some great Marvel moments. The art accompanying each quote is reflective.

Classic comic fans will enjoy Marvel Comics Classic Quotes. Bold quotes, catchphrases, and pictures spanning the Marvel universe make this book entertaining and enjoyable for all ages. I particularly enjoyed Hank McCoy getting his own page early on, and appreciated the references from early in Marvel's development to more modern creations.

I did hope for less well-known quotes, something more obscure, but the book was still enjoyable. Thank you for the opportunity to review it.
