Darker Days is what I call an absolute MASTERPIECE! Downright BRILLIANT! It’s already had the rights sold for television! As I was reading it, I could so see it on the screen.
Have you ever made a deal with the devil? At least thought about it? There’s a nice little neighborhood in Lock Haven. The good old people on Bird Street. Eleven months of the year, everyone has good luck. Everyone is successful, even the kids. But once November arrives, it all goes to hell. Terror strikes and evil matters must be paid as debt.
This book is all kinds of messed up and it was OUT-OF-THIS-WORLD GOOD! It’s my favorite horror ever now! It’s going to be tough to beat it. The last 30% I was holding my breath, saying Oh My Gawd over n over and couldn’t get through it fast enough.
Fair warning, this book is deliciously DARK. Dark dark! Suicide is a big trigger warning. If that doesn’t bother you, YOU MUST READ THIS BOOK! A complete MASTERPIECE! This story will live rent free in my head forever!
ALL OF THE ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

A lot of times you'll hear people claim a certain author is the "heir apparent" to Stephen King. And while they write some amazing books, that claim seems a bit hyperbolic.
But if I didn't know better and someone told me this book was written by Mr. King, I would have accepted it without question. Old school King vibes. The Carrie, Pet Semetary, IT, Stephen King. Not that this author copys or borrows, but it's the way this book made an impact with the amazing characters, the supernatural horror, the moral dilemmas, and the hard to pin "creep factor".
This is very much a character driven novel and the absolute dread as we watch them slowly fall apart in November is bone chilling. Because every November a few neighbors on Bird Street have what they call "the darker days". A month of great suffering both physical and mental. And every year, a sacrifice must be made in the woods to satisfy the creature known as The Accountant.
For the rest of the year, these people enjoy an abundance of happiness, wealth, and extremely good luck. Unnaturally so because of this pact. But at what price when November comes? We'll see this horrific decline as time begins running out during one November and it's terrifying.
But then, something will happen and the last half of this book goes full throttle terrifying as everything comes to a head and a dark secret is revealed. It absolutely blew me away.
Yeah, there's so much more to explore here but you need to find out on your own. This is one of my favorite horror books of the year and I highly recommend it.
