Can we be real for a minute? I love Capri Sanzio! This woman is smart, witty, and takes no crap. Capri is also an FMC over 40 which never happens and I love it! When we last saw Capri she was investigating the unaliving of her mother in law and solving the case of who really was responsible for the deaths of the sex workers her grandfather was accused of serial unaliving. Now she’s back to giving tours of San Francisco’s seedier history with a season of a podcast under her belt and an advance towards the book she’s writing about her grandfather.
On a tour one of her guests witnesses a woman being attacked and Capri jumps into action to find out what happened. Working again with the super sexy Detective Petito and also dating him Capri finds herself in the middle of everything. I’ve got to say I was super psyched to see Capri and Petito’s first date. It was so fun reading about Capri dealing with the nerves associated with dating after divorce. I’m rooting for them!
This series is amazing for so many reasons. There is always a mystery in a mystery with so many twists and I love that. Capri is a loveable FMC with the kind of brain I wish I had. Even though she runs in head first often risking her life for other people it’s just who she is and I love her.
I listened to the audiobook version of this book from Macmillan Audio and Michelle Chouinard, narrated by Stephanie Németh-Parker and I think she did a great job making the characters feel so real. She has a great voice that keeps you entertained. I received an advance listener copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

A Tour to Die For was such a fun ride—equal parts mystery and charm. The setting pulled me right in, the twists kept me guessing, and I loved tagging along with the characters as secrets unfolded. Michelle Chouinard blends suspense with just the right touch of humor, making it the kind of mystery you fly through in one sitting.

This was such a fun sequel!
Our main character Capri is fresh off helping solve a case and confirming her book about her serial killer grandfather. As she is giving one of her tours of San Francisco, one of the guests swears she sees someone being strangled in a window. But when the police arrive, no one is home. Days later, a body is found. Capri being Capri (and maybe having eyes for one of the police officers) noses her way into the case trying to find answers.
I really like how determined Capri always is. She always wants to find the truth and she's good at it, despite her father's voice in her head telling her she isn't. She's smart and resourceful and is surround by good people. One of the officers on the case is Office Petito (who is probably Capri's boyfriend) tries his best to keep Capri safe but also in the loop as much as he can. He's a good guy who really cares about Capri. Some of the other returning characters are Capri's daughter Morgan and her tour business coworkers Heather and Ryan. I can see this group making so many more appearances.
The plot of this book kept me engaged. I always love the characters who aren't supposed to poke their noses in things, but do anyways and always manage to find answers. Capri just kept finding clue after clue. There were also a few little fun subplots. One was about a group trying to dig up a ship from the gold rush times that is buried under the city and potentially making it an underground museum. A lot of history and interesting facts were brought up and I learned a lot, though it didn't feel like learning. There was also a subplot about Morgan learning her dad isn't always the good guy Capri tried to lead her to believe because she didn't want to crush Morgan's views of her dad. I really liked seeing Morgan stand up for herself and form her own conclusions about things.
The ending was nail biting and exciting and it really made sense. There were a lot of suspects and honestly even several motives for this murder. I love book that I am able to just go along for the ride - I don't usually try to figure out whodunit. This one made good sense and had a logical conclusion.
The audiobook narrator was great. She really fit Capri's personality and kept me intrigued throughout the whole book.

It takes a lot to faze Capri Sanzio, who makes her living giving true crime walking tours in San Francisco. When a tour guest insists that she witnessed a woman being attacked through an apartment window, Capri doesn’t make much of it initially. Although the police don’t find any evidence of anything amiss at the apartment, the resident never turns up and then the tour guest goes missing too. Of course Capri, with her true crime background, is not about to let things go and just has to investigate!
A Tour to Die For is the sequel to The Serial Killer Guide to San Francisco, although it can easily be read as a standalone. There’s enough detail about the characters to bring you up to speed but it also doesn’t spoil the first book, which is nice because you’ll probably want to go back and read it if you enjoy this one! It’s refreshing that plucky and determined Capri isn’t some young thing, she’s a character around my own age with her own young adult daughter. I love her budding romance with Detective Petito, which made me nostalgic for an older cozy mystery series, Scumble River, and also gives Finlay Donovan vibes. The San Francisco lore makes this series feel authentic, and the gold rush history was really interesting! The mystery wraps up nicely, but the author left Capri some personal loose ends, so it’s a good bet there’s room for at least one more book.
As with the first book, Stephanie Nemeth-Parker narrates the audiobook version and I love the way she brings Capri to life. She does a fantastic job with voices for the other characters too; both the female and male character voices were great! Her narration made it easy to keep track of who was speaking and kept me engaged the entire time.
Many thanks to NetGalley, St. Martin’s Press, Minotaur Books, and Macmillan Audio for providing me an advance copy of this book.

A Tour to Die For is a fun and engaging mystery that pulls readers right into the heart of New Orleans. Michelle Chouinard does a wonderful job weaving together the city’s rich atmosphere with a twisty whodunit that keeps you guessing. The setting is vibrant and detailed—you can practically hear the jazz and taste the beignets while following along with the investigation.
The protagonist is sharp, witty, and easy to root for, and the mix of humor and suspense makes the story feel fresh and entertaining. Some plot points wrap up a little conveniently, but the journey is so enjoyable that it hardly detracts from the overall experience.

This story follows Capri, the granddaughter of a notorious serial killer, who has created her own business of touring locations in San Francisco where true crimes have taken place throughout history. One of the tourists of her group witnesses a woman being attacked through a window and with no signs of foul play the police do not take it seriously until days later when a body is found. Disclaimer that this is book two, and I did not read the first.
This story had a lot of moving pieces that kept things interesting and fun, as if I were watching an episode of a tv series. We learned everything as Capri did which was different from usual mysteries that drop easter eggs to help the reader try and figure out the end game and suspect. And because there weren't many of those the reader couldn't confidently say who they thought the suspect was which worked against us (but in the author's favor!) whenever Capri began to doubt herself. It wasn't until the reveal that I began to realize that even though everything was as it seemed, everything is still not as it seems. And the plot twist at the end made me excited to read the next in the series.
The narrator was very captivating and kept me interested during my time listening. I think they showcased all of the characters very well and I look forward to hearing more from her.

Thank you so much to Macmillan Audio and Netgalley for the Advanced Listeners Copy of A Tour to Die for by Michelle Chouinard! This is the second book of the series. I have not read the first book but am definitely going to after finishing this one! Capri is an investigative journalist who helped solve a serial killer mystery in her family and the copy cat killings. She hosts a tour guide company with tours focused on crime and serial killers in San Francisco. When one of her attendees witnesses someone be strangled through a window while on a tour, she knows she has to get involved to figure out what happened to this woman.
This is a great cozy mystery. It kept my attention as she continued to follow leads and investigated the alleged crime, while there is also a side plot of romance with one of the detectives. After listening to this, I will definitely be picking up the first of the series. Would highly recommend this book once it is published in September!

A Tour to Die for is the second book in this series and it's only getting better. I cannot wait until the next book comes out. A very cozy, fun series that has murder, mystery, and talks about all of the things that make San Francisco great.

Capri Sanzio owns a San Francisco tour guide company that specializes in serial killers. When a walking tour quickly escalates, a guest claims to witness an attack in real time. The police dismiss it, but Capri can't shake the feeling that something actually happened, so she begins digging deeper into the case.
Capri is navigating both the baggage of her family's alleged criminal past and the bizarre fascination her guests have with the "Overkill Bill" case. The mix of true-crime obsession and Capri's unwillingness to let things slide makes for a gripping setup. The investigative thread layers each clue with questions about truth, lies, and the city's history of violence. Capri's determination to follow through, even when everyone else dismisses her, makes her a well-rounded character. The ending ties the threads together in a satisfying way. It was a fun blend of mystery and true crime that kept the intrigue going.

A Tour to Die For is the second book in The Serial Killers Guide to San Francisco Mysteries series. Capri operates a serial killer tour business and while on one of her tours a guest witnesses an attack on a woman through a window.
This is a cozy mystery filled with a lot of history about SF. I really enjoyed this aspect of the story, along with the podcast and amateur sleuthing. Capri, Ryan, Heather and Detective Petito were all likable characters. Where this story lost stars for me was the motivation of the crime itself. I felt like it was very lacking and the ending felt rushed.
Overall I still really liked this book more than the first one. I am interested in what comes next for this series.
Thanks to Netgalley and Macmillan Audio for the audiobook ARC.

Thank you to Minotaur and Macmillan Audio for the gifted copy of A Tour To Die For! This is book two in the Serial Killer Guide to San Francisco series, so make sure to read book one first.
While I found the first book’s mystery a bit more compelling, I still really enjoyed this installment. It has that “groundwork” feel, like it’s setting up what I hope will be a long-running series. I’m starting to get attached to these characters and can’t wait to see what happens next!
My favorite part of this series is the way San Franciscan history is woven into the mysteries. The city itself feels like a character and I love learning more about it with each book!
Audio: Stephanie Nemeth-Parker totally nails the audiobook! There’s a chapter towards the end that I can’t describe without spoilers, but her performance there was absolutely stunning. Definitely one where the audiobook enhances the overall experience!

Capri Sanzio gives serial killer walking tours in San Francisco. On one tour, one of Capri’s guests is certain she sees a woman getting attacked. The police search the apartment, but nothing is found. Capri can’t stop wondering why someone would lie about seeing an attack. She can’t let it go and finds herself at the center of another murder investigation.
I loved The Serial Killer’s Guide to San Francisco, so I jumped at the chance to review this second installment in the series! While I found the first installation to be more of a thriller, I would consider this second one to be more of a cozy mystery. The mystery itself just wasn’t as exciting as the first one. However, I did still enjoy the character of Capri and the atmospheric setting of San Francisco. I would give this one 3 out of 5 stars. I enjoyed the narration.

Capri is back in the middle of another mystery when one of her San Francisco Killer Crime Tour guests swears she saw a woman being strangled through a window. Capri quickly calls 911, but her journalist instincts tell her there’s more to the story.
Her digging leads her right back to Detective Petito—the same detective who once suspected Capri and her daughter of murder. Now their relationship is complicated, with sparks flying even as Petito tries to keep Capri safe. Of course, Capri isn’t one to sit back; she’s strong, independent, and determined to run her business while chasing the truth. I also loved getting to know her best friend and partner Heather better in this book!
This was a ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ read and listen for me. The action, the twists, Capri’s tense but growing connection with Petito, and her ex-husband stirring up trouble—it all kept me hooked. I recommend starting with book one, A Serial Killer’s Guide to San Francisco, for the full backstory, especially about Capri’s family.
Look for this one September 23rd, 2025!
Big thanks to NetGalley, Michelle Chouinard, St. Martin’s Press, and Macmillan Audio for letting me dive back into Capri’s world.

The first book was so fun I was excited to see the second book available. The narration was fantastic!! I liked this book even more than the first. I love the history woven in to the book. An excellent cozy mystery.

I was excited to see a sequel to the first book. It is all my favorite things. True Crime, Podcast writers, and more. I loved the characters, the story line and even the ending. Yes it was predictable but a good ending.

A deeper look in San Francisco, a city most people don’t know or understand. I love the history bits because there are still so many things I didn’t know. The mysteries are modern but cozy lite. The characters need more development, especially since this is the second book.

Capri Sanzio is giving a walking tour of San Francisco when someone in her tour claims to have witnessed a woman being hurt. What ensues next is a whirlwind of Capri investigating the allegation to see what happened. Capri won’t allow no from the police department to stop her. The mystery and the hint of a treasure hunt kept me hooked. I did figure out later on a twist but it was so good to get that right. The highlight for me in the story is learning more about San Francisco. It really leaves you wanting to go and explore the streets that Capri gives her tours on. There is some chemistry brewing between Carpi and Petito and I’m eager to see if it continues to develop. I love seeing Capri’s co-workers in the previous books. They always make me laugh and together they make a great team.
The narrator, Stephanie Németh-Parker does an amazing job portraying Capri, Petito and several other characters in the story. The tones and inflections are great and I was able to distinguish who was speaking as the story progressed very easily.
If you enjoy cozy mysteries set in San Francisco, and found family, check this one out.
A very special thanks to Macmillan Audio for the gifted ALC.

4-5⭐️
What a whirlwind of a book! I listened to this audiobook when working out to let time fly by, and it helped SO much. The adventure this book takes you on is CRAZY. So many mysteries, so much knowledge about San Francisco, so many murders and clues. This was one of the longest audiobooks I’ve listened to but I would so listen to it all again. I loved the characters in this book and the main character’s inner dialogue. Let’s just say tour guide takes on investigative journalist, takes on podcast, with a side of romance.

I love Capri, she seems so real. She’s a smart single mom with a successful business, and knows how to solve crimes. Her true crime walking tours are really interesting and things that happen along these tours are just as entertaining. Between the walking tours, trying to solve a crime, dealing with her ex-husband, who is up to no good, she is also getting to know Detective Petito. Their relationship also felt genuine; two adults too busy with their careers that they barely have time for each other.
The book is well paced and all the twists and turns that each clue brought up just lead to the fun of a cozy mystery. Bonus points for a book set in San Francsico. I am a Bay Area native, who went to college in SF and loves reading about all things Northern California.

First of all, a big thank you to NetGalley and MacMillan Audio for the advanced listener copy of A Tour to Die For by Michelle Chouinard—the much-anticipated second book in The Serial Killer’s Guide to San Francisco series!
This sequel completely lived up to the first book, and I honestly couldn’t put it down. If you’re a fan of the movie National Treasure, this is absolutely the book for you.
The story picks right up with Capri running her true crime tours in San Francisco when one of her clients witnesses a murder through an apartment window. From there, the mystery takes off with so many twists, turns, and shocking revelations that kept me hooked until the very end.
One of my favorite aspects of this series is how Chouinard weaves in fascinating tidbits about San Francisco’s dark and murderous history—it makes the setting come alive and adds such a chilling, authentic touch.
I also listened to the audiobook, and the narration was excellent, really enhancing the tension and atmosphere of the story.
This is a must-read (or must-listen!) for mystery lovers who enjoy fast-paced, twisty plots with a dash of true crime history.
