A Tour to Die For (The Serial Killer Guide to San Francisco #2)
By Michelle Chouinard, narrated by Stephanie Németh-Parker
Listening length: 10 hours 3 min (6 hours 42 minutes at 1.5x and 5 hours 45 minutes at 1.75 x)

Capri Sanzio is the granddaughter of one of San Francisco’s alleged famed serial killers, who earns a a majority of her living giving “serial killer walking tours” to tourists, while trying to start a Podcast and write a book on the side.

So, it will take a lot more to phase her, than a guest claiming that she just saw a woman being strangled through a window of a residence that they are passing. She calmly dials 911 and they wait for Police to arrive. But Police claim the Apartment was empty and nothing was amiss when they check.

BUT, WHY WOULD HER GUEST MAKE SOMETHING LIKE THAT UP?

When the tour ends, Capri’s investigative journalist instincts push her to do a little digging, because she just doesn’t feel right letting it go when a woman might need someone’s help. So she pulls out her trusty Moleskin notebook and begins to make notes.

And, when her questions lead her to a dead body-she finds herself in the middle of another murder investigation-her second in a matter of weeks.

Fortunately, Detective Petito from her last case, seems to have developed a soft spot for her-and we pick up right where the first book left off…..

This installment is even better than the first-and I really enjoyed that one!

Capri Sanzio is a smart, funny, sensible 49 year old who I could definitely hang out with, if she wasn’t just a character in a book! And, I love the city of San Francisco! ❤️

In addition to our mystery, there are a few SHORT chapters from the SF Killer Crime Tours that Capri gives, which share the history of the city and its most famous districts, such as The Barbary Coast, The Mission District, Golden Gate Park, The Financial District, and The Tenderloin, which really elevated this story.

We even get some lore on California’s Gold Rush of 1849, and the 49ers (the influx of people who rushed to California with their picks and Min-Pans, looking for Gold).

Cozy Mysteries feature amateur detectives and crime that occurred off page (rather than graphic violence) so this is labeled as such but stories like these should probably be called Contemporary Cozy Mysteries, since our sleuths are living in larger cities and leading lives we recognize as similar to our own. (minus the murders, I hope!)

I definitely recommend reading the two books in order, and if you listen to AUDIOBOOKS, it’s my FAVORITE way to enjoy this series as the narrator does a great job! I was fortunate enough to have both a written and Audiobook copy for an immersion read.

Expected publication date: September 23, 2025

Thank You to Macmillan Audio for the Audiobook and to Minotaur Books for the written copy-both provided through NetGalley. As always, these are my candid thoughts.

A Tour to Die For (The Serial Killer Guide to San Francisco #2)
By Michelle Chouinard, narrated by Stephanie Németh-Parker

Following on the heels of the first book, The Serial Killer Guide to San Francisco, we are now back with tour guide/podcaster Capri Sanzio, a short time after the first book ended. As Capri is winding up a tour in the city, one of her tour participants sees someone strangling a woman inside an apartment. Cops are called, no people are found in the apartment, and that's the extent of the investigation. Capri can't leave this situation alone. What if there is still a woman alive who needs help, maybe she's been taken elsewhere and she is in trouble, with the clock running down for her to be saved? You don't get to be Capri, granddaughter of a serial killer and all the implications of that hanging over one's head, without overthinking all aspects of crime. So Capri promptly starts digging into the life of the woman of the apartment.

Capri has an approaching dinner date with Detective Petito (my brain kept changing his name in the audiobook to Potato because it is easily amused), who she exasperated to no end in the first book, and she realizes that she could end up shutting down a potential romance before it even gets going but she cannot leave well enough alone. She manages to get others involved in her informal and likely not legal investigation into the woman who seems to be missing, dragging more and more people into her investigation as either suspects or investigation cohorts. So once again, Capri does a fantastic job of frustrating Detective Petito and wondering over and over if she's lost her chances for a nice dinner or two with him.

I really like Capri, she seems so sound of mind although she also goes way overboard with her investigation as she plunges, in more ways than one, into dangerous situations. She also has other things to worry about, such as her not so good ex-husband continuing to do what helped make him an ex. He's mixed up in a business plan with their daughter to turn his late mother's chateau into a boarding house and being cagey about some assistance that he wants. This man is the reason that Capri hasn't been willing to give more men a try until Detective Petito entered her life.

Being in Capri's head is entertaining for me, she's smart, funny, ambitious with a huge streak of "you've got to be kidding-ness" from me. Several true crimes get mentioned, all crimes that I've followed in the past, so I mostly get this woman and her obsession with crime but also with putting way too much thought in seeing crime where there probably isn't crime. I think I'd like to take one of her tours someday, as long as she hasn't riled up bad guys with her informal investigations, while I'm touring with her. Stephanie Németh-Parker does a really good job with the audiobook narration, making Detective Petito sound more delicious than I would have done on my own. I was fortunate enough to have both the ebook and audiobook and the ebook helped to remind me that it is Petito and not Potato...ha ha

Thanks to Macmillan Audio, St. Martin's Press | Minotaur Books, and NetGalley for both the ebook and the audiobook ARC.

I was excited to scoop up Book 2 in this cozy mystery series! The narrator is amazing! I really enjoy the San Francisco history sprinkled in. Capri again finds herself intertwined in a murder mystery as she works *very closely* with law enforcement with her investigative journalist skills. The story kept my attention with Capri’s 1st person POV and slowly building clues.

Thank you NetGalley and Macmillan Audio for this ALC. This review will be shared on NetGalley and Goodreads.

Despite a cutesy cover, A Tour To Die For is not a cozy mystery, and that’s okay. I was just expecting a cozy mystery. The book is more mystery/thriller. It contains all the things not part of cozy mysteries - swearing, sex and encouraging the main character to get a gun.
That said, it is an entertaining book. The mystery is well crafted. The history of San Francisco is fascinating. The story between Capri and Detective Petito adds the romance to the mystery.
Capri is a determined person. She has built a tour company in San Francisco, has a true crime podcast and is writing a book about her ancestor Overkill Bill. Capri is a midlife sleuth/journalist. It’s nice to read about someone who has a bit of experience in life. It causes the book to come from a different perspective. I didn’t realize this was a second book about Capri; I haven’t read the first book so I had a bit of catch up to do via the references in this book.
I enjoyed A Tour To Die For. I listened to the audiobook and like the narrator. I think as long as you come into the story with the right expectations I think you’ll enjoy it too.
Thanks to Netgalley, St. Martin’s and Macmillan Audio for the chance to read this book.

This book was so good! I loved the story! Capri is back giving tours around San Francisco when she finds herself in the middle of another murder mystery. She has to investigate! There’s so many twists in this whodunit. I love it.

I actually think I enjoyed this one better than book one! The mystery was engaging and the characters are becoming more developed. I thought it was a good solid mystery! I love a good mystery that isn’t overly scary. I also love that there is a little romance that’s budding. Solid read!

Thank you Netgalley for early access to the book. I got an opportunity to read this book for free but the opinions are my own.

This one of the rare cases when I enjoyed the sequel more than the first book. Well written and thought out, it had multiple levels to the story and was engaging.

I listened to the audiobook which was well narrated and well done. Would definitely recommend and if you have the background of the first book, it's sufficient to get you through book 2.

I enjoyed that there was an older adult with history, experience, FMC and MMC had their own lives they were bringing in together with gentle love tropes. It was nice to watch two adults fall in love and not make hasty decisions, or do make hasty decisions because Lord knows adults don't have it together either.

Overall it was an engaging read!

I LOVE Capri as a character and I was so thrilled to see more of her and her crazy shenanigans. She is such a strong character and I love love love her sense of humor. This series is perfect for true crime lovers that still need a bit of positivity and humor. Stephanie Németh-Parker is the perfect narrator for her. It was also nice to see more of her and Detective Petito. I’m so eager for the next book!

Another delightful read! After thoroughly enjoying the first book in the series, I was thrilled to dive into this sequel, and it did not disappoint. The story is just as engaging and addictive as its predecessor.

Capri, our bold and resilient protagonist, continues to lead with strength and charm. She’s joined by her lovable best friend, daughter, and the ever-reliable detective, who together form a dynamic and endearing cast.

While the plot wasn’t quite as intense as the first book, it still captivated me with its clever unfolding and kept me hooked until the end. I highly recommend this sequel to fans of the series and eagerly await the next installment!

I definitely think I enjoyed the first one a little bit more but I am really enjoying this series so far!!!

I had the pleasure of also having the ALC, so I was able to listen to this one as well as read it. I really like the narrator. I enjoyed her in the first book as well!

All in all a fun and easy read! I was really string along the entire time trying to figure out the twist.

I did feel like the pacing was a little slower, especially at the end. It felt a little dragged on for me.

Thank you Minotaur Books and Macmillan Audio!

San Francisco tour guide, Capri Sanzio, leads tours themed around historical murders. With the help of her friends and a hot detective, Capri uses her knowledge to catch yet another murderer in this sequel.

I received an advanced audio copy of the first book in this series last year and was excited to see the sequel listed on NetGalley! It did not disappoint. As with the first book, Chouinard creates a balance of historical detail, humor, mystery, thrill, and a touch of romance in her work. I enjoyed this book and thought the narration was very well done!

••• ALC REVIEW •••
🎧 A Tour to Die For by Michelle Chouinard
Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️
Do I recommend: Maybe
***Out September 23***

I read and loooooved The Serial Killer Guide to San Francisco earlier this year and was so excited to receive an ALC of the second installment, A Tour to Die For!

We jump back into the story with our leading lady Capri, granddaughter of a serial killer, giver of true-crime tours, and podcaster/investigative journalist wannabe. While on a tour, an attendee thinks she witnesses a murder and Capri can’t help herself and begins to poke around (much to the chagrin of her detective/sort-of boyfriend Petito).

We are set up for a good mystery, and we get lots of fun tidbits about San Francisco throughout, but the story kind of dragged for me and was predictable (but maybe I’m a genius 😉).

The narrator was great but with all the talk of podcasts and our lil fun fact intros, I do wish we could have had a podcast element factored into the audio in some way.

If you’re looking for a cozy mystery (but not quite a silly thrilly™️, let’s show some respect), this series may be worth looking into!

Thank you to NetGalley and Macmillan Audio for the ALC in exchange for my honest review!

A successful business and a new developing romantic relationship sounds perfect to our main character Capri Sanzio. That is until one of her tours turns a bit deadly and thankfully this time she is not the person who is being accused of murder. However, is it really murder if a body hasn't been found yet?

A Tour To Die For by Michelle Chouinard is the second book in the series The Serial Killer Guide to San Francisco. Capri Sanzio is used to odd questions during her true crime tour. I mean she is after all the granddaughter of a famous serial killer. Not quite something you want to be known for but if it helps business, sure, let's go with that. However one guest on her tour not only is asking too many personal questions, she causes a scene prompting a 911 call for a possible attack she witnessed. Yet when she police do a welfare check, no foul play has been done. Trusting her gut instinct of how rattled her tour guide guest is, Capri decides to pursue more leads to find out was there an attack or not? Trying to follow up on more questions she has, now the witness to it is now missing? Is she being played or does Capri now have two missing people she has to find? This mystery has more questions than she through she first has as she dives deep into it not realizing how close to being a missing person herself.

I really enjoyed listening to A Tour To Die For audio book thanks to Macmillan Audio. Stephanie Németh-Parker did an amazing job as the narrator with great inflection in her voice and making it easy for the listener to follow along with the different characters. Michelle Chouinard does a great job writing her characters and keeping the storyline at a good flow so the reader/listener doesn't get distracted or bored of what is going on. I highly recommend this book especially if you like cozy mysteries.

Thank you so much to Netgalley, Macmillan Audio and Michelle Chouinard for this ARC. I will definitely be watching out for the next book in the series!

A Tour to Die For is everything I want in a cozy mystery: a smart protagonist, a setting that feels like a character in its own right (this book is like a love letter to San Francisco -- flaws and all! I would read it for the history alone), and just the right blend of suspense and charm. From the very first chapter, I was completely hooked, and by the time I turned the last page, I found myself heading straight to Instagram to follow the author and see when I could get my hands on the next in the series. Fingers crossed!

Audiobook review: Stephanie Nemeth Parker is slowly becoming one of my favorite narrators. She is the perfect voice to Capri -- I could listen to her all day!

Five big stars -- a sleeper hit for me. I liked a Serial Killers Guide to SF, but I LOVED this one.

Thoughts - Thank you to Netgalley, Michelle Chouinard, and Macmillan Audio for this gifted advanced listener copy of the audiobook in exchange for my honest review. I really enjoyed the first book of this series and was excited to see there was another one in the works for this year. Our main character Capri is back with a whole new murder adventure. While Capri is giving one of her famous tours around San Francisco, a woman in her group sees a woman in a window being suffocated by a pair of black gloves. Capri is then wrapped up in this case as the investigative journalist finding clues to ultimately catch the killer. I loved this audiobook - the narrator did a fabulous job with the voices between all the characters and I honestly had so much fun listening to this. It gave me Finlay Donovan vibes, which is one of my favorite cozy mystery series. The only reason I didn't rate this higher was because I thought the storyline was predictable. Still a really fun listen and will definitely be recommending!

"A Tour To Die For" is book two in the "A Serial Killer Guide To San Francisco Mystery" series.

Wow, this book was so good! I was hooked from the beginning to the end. I need more of this series. We have a treasure hunt, romance, and murder. What else do you need to want to read this book?

The audiobook is so good. The narrator did a good job, easy to listen to and also understand. I listened at 2x speed.

For some reason, serial killers are fascinating, and Capri Sanzio, a single Mom runs a tour company in San Francisco where her tours focus on serial killers out of her city. Apparently, her grandfather had been a serial killer and tourists booked her tours often. The second installment in The Serial Killer Guide to San Francisco Mysteries, A Tour to Die For where a guest on a tour she was conducting sees a woman get strangled through a window in a nearby apartment. After calling the police, no body was found, and Capri wasn’t sure if the guest was either trying to get attention or lying. Capri, who had solved a few previous cases, investigates with the help of her new boyfriend, an inspector with the San Francisco police.

Chouinard is an excellent storyteller, and weaves her tale with unexpected scenarios, slowly building suspense, and ups and downs. Most importantly, she does an excellent job of developing her characters. Capri is a likeable and believable protagonist. The supporting characters are also excellent, and as readers go along with the story, they will find the characters viable.

The prose is upbeat, and this is a semi-cozy, since it does contain some profanity, and sexual innuendo. There is, however, no graphic violence.

Readers who choose the audio book will enjoy the narrator, who is excellent and makes it easy to enjoy. This cozy is cute, but not suitable for young readers because it doesn’t follow the criteria for a real cozy. This would make a good beach or vacation read.

Special thanks to NetGalley for supplying a review copy of this book.

Wow, this book was such a fun adventure! This is the second book in the series, which I didn’t realize when I started but it can definitely be enjoyed on its own, although I will be jumping back and listen to the first book now because I really enjoyed A Tour to Die For! This story follows 49yo Capri, who gives serial killer tours in San Francisco. During a tour one of her clients claims they saw something sketchy but the police can’t find anything when called. Capri takes it upon herself to investigate the possible crime. Although murder is discussed throughout the book it is a fairly lighthearted read. There is a great supporting cast including her daughter and best friend, as well as a possible romantic interest. Very light romance with no spice. Well written mystery with fun facts and solid investigating. The answers didn’t just fall into Capri’s lap but rather she worked hard to find them. As a woman in my 40s I really appreciated that she wasn’t portrayed as decrepit- she has the same thoughts and fears that I do, which made her very relatable and is very rare.
This is single pov, first person. Chapters start with interesting facts about serial killers. Narrator did an excellent job at keeping me engaged even where there are multiple characters in the scene.
