Such a cute board book for the kids of gamers. Great for vocabulary building and cute illustrations!

Another entrant in this series of picture books that archly introduce 100 terms to the young vocab. And once again, it's a world where the names of people mentioned mean nothing to many of us outside that world – who's Muriel Tramis, when she's at home?! – and the terms are niche. Actually, they can be dreadful neologisms, too – 'goated', be accused. I have some small knowledge of gaming but have no idea what the Famicom was, or why 'the brown box' could be so important to a baby's development.
Of course, I say that in the knowledge this is once again for the parent, or the gaming uncle – something acting as a self-serving gift from a gamer to a youngster they want to nudge into their world. But it's just too insular and silly, all told, and here, with the slang-styled approach to abbreviations and cliquey, niche words and phrases, it didn't appeal.

Thank you to NetGalley for the opportunity to read this
100 First Words for Little Gamers is such a fun, nostalgic read...not just for kids, but for grown-up gamers too! It’s a fantastic blend of retro and modern gaming terms, covering everything from 8-bit classics to current-day favorites. I’ve been gaming since 1988, and I’ll be honest, there were even a few words in here I didn’t know and had to look up, which made the experience even more enjoyable.
The illustrations are bright, colorful, and engaging, perfect for capturing a child's attention. My son (a fellow little gamer himself) loved going through the pages with me. We had a great time pointing out things we both recognized and I got to tell him all about the games I used to play when I was his age. It was a fun little bonding moment that I didn’t expect.
This is the kind of book that feels like a love letter to gamers of all generations. Whether you’re raising a future gamer or just want a smile-inducing trip down memory lane, this is a fantastic addition to any gamer’s shelf, because let’s be honest, you’re never too old to get excited over a pixelated heart.

This book was funny, with a wide range of different gaming terms included. (For all types of gaming!) I could see this book being a fun book for an older sibling to show their younger siblings. As a gaming family, our household enjoyed this one. I am always looking for new "100 words" books to add to our collection, and this one will fit right in. If you are a gamer, you will enjoy this one.

The words included in this book were definitely accurate/often used in the gamer world. I like that some funny words were included, too. It made the reading experience more enjoyable. However, I'm not sure if some of the acronyms included in the book are actually used by gamers very often.

This one is so nostalgic! It was really fun to look through it and remember all of the gamer things I once knew as a kid - and some new ones I didn't know existed. Great artwork. It is a really fun picture book.

I really liked the idea of this book—video game-themed alphabet books are fun and eye-catching. The illustrations are bright and playful, and they definitely capture a gaming vibe that kids will enjoy.
But the text didn’t work for me. I was also disappointed by some of the word choices. A few didn’t feel very connected to gaming, and others seemed too random or obscure for kids to understand. They also seemed too difficult for a kid that would be the appropriate age for a 100 word book.
Overall, it’s a cute concept with great artwork, but the word choices and design of the text brought it down. It had potential, but the execution didn’t quite hit the mark.

Thank you to NetGalley for the ARC! This was a cute book for aspiring gamers. As a gamer myself, I thought it was fun to be able to expose children to this hobby through the book. I liked that the author included both new and retro gaming systems.

🎮This is a cute, nerdy little board book, great for gamer households! The book is packed with colorful illustrations, blocked into easy-to-identify squares. The bright colors and wide variety of vocabulary included will be appealing for little minds, who are so curious about the world around them and the things their parents love.
🎮There's lots of nostalgic nods to legacy game systems, which will spark lots of bonding through storytelling and knowledge sharing. The educational and entertainment value meet beautifully in this one! Some of the text was a little hard to read, but it could be more an issue of the translation to digital format and will be much easier to read in person. If you like to gift fun pop culture books, and know a gamer couple expecting a little one, this is a perfect option! The cover is so cute, and makes for a lovely pop of color in a child's nursery library. The variety of vocabulary is great for improving communication and social-emotional skills. Would definitely recommend!
🎮 Sending a big thanks to Carlos Mireles-Guerrero, Familius, and NetGalley for the opportunity to take a look at 100 First Words for Little Gamers! I will share my review to Amazon, Goodreads, and Barnes & Noble upon release!

Thanks to NetGalley and Familius for an advanced reading copy of this book. It will be released to retailers on November 4, 2025.
Perfect for toddlers and and parents who need a refresher on the terms their kids are saying. Bright pictures and clear wording. Very informative!!

I picked this up as the mom of a gamer. The pictures are cute and eye-catching. The text is not. I think the text is way too small and non-distinct for the pictures. I also was underwhelmed by some of the words (inlcuding people) chosen. I feel like most kids would miss some of the references. Overall I think this is a cute idea but the execution fell flat.

I'll be honest, I picked up this book for my own personal edification, not that of a “little gamer.” Which just goes to show, this book is for all ages! Honestly, I could argue adults might enjoy it more thanks to all the nostalgic references.
The pages were far more colorful than I expected, in the best way. There wasn’t an inch of blank space. Every page was filled with lively, eye-catching illustrations. I do think the text could stand out a bit more in relation to the art, which could be easily overlooked, but overall? No complaints. This is a fun little book that would make a unique gift, whether or not the recipient has kids or is expecting one.
Thank you to NetGalley, Familius, and Carlos Mireles-Guerrero for the privilege of this ARC in exchange for my honest opinion.

Thanks to NetGalley for the free Kindle book. My review is voluntarily given, and my opinions are my own.
This is a great 100-word book for gamer parents, or even just a collectors book for gamers who don't have kids. I mean, seriously, you don't have to have kids to buy children's books.
I would not have ever thought to make a first word book would included gaming words, however, any book that helps increase a child's vocabulary is a good thing. Or gets the parents to read to their child!

As an ex-streamer I couldn’t resist checking this out.
I love the concept but I think the photos didn’t do it justice. I’d love to see the whole thing illustrated.

This is a cute concept. I grew up in the 90s so this picture book makes me smile and my nerdy heart happy. As a family of gamers I do appreciate the words that were chosen, but I would suggest to make the words larger and bolder because while the pictures are great the words are lost in the pages because of the small text. Also if marketing for children I do think some of the art used could be more animated (cartoony).

100 First Words For Little Gamers is a fun book to have on any gamers shelf. My kids and I had a good laugh reading this one! I knew what many of the words were and what they referred to, but then again I had no idea what a few of them meant, and it was a good bonding/ learning experience for me, having my kids explain them to me. There are people mentioned in this one, inventors and creators, and it was nice to Google them and find out some fun facts. Even my husband had a good time with this one, the 45 year old gamer that he is! Haha!
Thank you NetGalley, Familius, Carlos Mireles-Guerrero for this one!
