I won't be reviewing this book; I requested it in a past lifetime of my NetGalley use and it no longer fits with my reading interests.

Evensong Sparkling Morningdew - yes, that is her name - has decided to give up homeschooling and try real school for her senior year. Given her penchant for social justice, it's a fair assumption to make that she's not going to be a wallflower once she arrives at school on her first day.
While this book was a fun, fluffy read, there were some things that really irritated me too. For example, Evie and her mother live in this dome house and have a barn with cows and chickens. They're definitely the granola-eating, tree-hugging type. Which makes it completely inconsistent with their character and beliefs that Martha (Evie's mom) would work at Wal-Mart. I mean, wouldn't working for such a huge conglomerate that has been responsible for destroying small-town America be against the very fabric of their being? I kind of wanted JJ Johnson to explain why Martha had a job at Wal-Mart given this inconsistency but she never did.
This book put me in mind of a more risque version of Jerry Spinelli's Stargirl: Unusual girl comes to school for the first time, everyone is fascinated with her at first, but then people start to turn on her. If you want the PG-13 version of Stargirl, then this is the book for you.

When I finished reading this book I remember feeling conflicted.
There was that part of me who had fun and enjoyed all the laughing moments. But you know that the thing with laughter is that it's good as long as you laugh with someone not at someone, and that's where the problems started.
Evie, acted self-righteously throughout most of the book which was hard to tolerate and her actions even harder to understand or accept. Evie's love interest was half ok, patient and all, but also fell into the category of insta-love-interests that I have to accept without actually feeling like they deserve it.
I remember thinking that I would have liked a story about Jacinda better than one about the actual protagonist, but honestly even she got lost between many other books and it's hard for me to remember which exactly were the things I liked about her most.
So an overall rating of 2.5 must be in place as I am still having mixed feelings about it.
