This entire plot line has actually become a nightmare for me, in terms of it being so terrifying. The book takes place on the gorgeous thousand islands and I love how the author brought it to life and paid it all the respect it is due - because heck yeah it’s gorgeous.

The concept of someone living in your space without you knowing. AH. Big yikes, and so scary. This was a fun read and introduction to the series, however I found that I did get lost in all the characters. That being said, I’m such a massive fan of local stories so I felt like this was a small town group literally being incorporated into the book.

Excited to read the next instalment. Thank you NetGalley for the ARC!

Shady deals, dead bodies, and lots of secrets are found in Tessa Wegert's new book, In The Bones. The characters you love are back with some new characters in a new series that will keep you guessing until the end. 4.5 stars

Thank you NetGalley and Seven House for the eARC.
This was one of my favorite books of the year so far, I absolutely loved it!
The Thousand Islands area is not far from where I live and I loved the sense of place the writing evoked. The main characters are great, can't wait to meet them again in the next of of the series. The mystery itself was excellent, I was amazed at the conclusion, never would have guessed the culprit.
As for the phrogging, I had never heard about it before, Netflix should do a documentary about it!

I liked the general idea of this but I found the prose difficult as there were too many POVs.
For those who like multiple characters telling the story, then this is for you.

A great mystery with a brand new thing - phrogging - to keep me up at night and checking my closets!

This is one of those books that really lived up to the hype. I had never heard of this writer before, but I would definitely check out any of her work henceforth!

The arrival of Mikko Helle, a celebrity hockey player and Finnish ex-athlete with big plans, unleashes unimaginable darkness amongst the inhabitants of a small town.

The horror (though this is not a horror story, please note) begins with the discovery of a corpse in the basement of Helle's newly renovated home and ends with the discovery of the darkest secrets being held by some of the town's inhabitants.

Intelligent, well-observed and gripping storytelling. This one is worth your time.

In The Bones is the first book in the brand-new North Country series by the QUEEN Tessa Wegert!

I was SO excited to get to read this book early. If you have followed me, you know how much I LOVE the Shana Merchant series. It was fantastic to visit with familiar faces and some new ones as well.

Returning to 1000 Islands and in Cape Vincent, what exquisite prose. Retired NHL Hockey Player Mikko has a new home in Cape Vincent, and not only murder but multiple thefts are occuring in the quaint town.

This is a character driven story with multiple points of view, which I LOVED!

I LOVE Shauna and Tim and the characters I have come to love in the Shana Merchant series.
The growth of these characters is so well done and I absolutely love Mac and how her family are a central point in the story.

When I tell you the end left me shook and in disbelief, I am still thinking about this.

So incredible! Highly recommend!

I’m not sure why this is marketed as a new series, because it seems like a continuation of the same series to me. But we get a more in depth view of Mac and Tim this time around. Solid mystery with good characters! Very enjoyable!

This was my first book by Tessa Wegert, and I was very impressed! This was a summer mystery/thriller located on Thousand Islands, a largely summer tourist area. The description of the setting was extremely well done, and made me feel like I was there!

I would definitely view this as a mystery more than a thriller, but that didn’t ruin anything for me.

My only complaint about this book was the difficulty I had with the many characters introduced very quickly, and character building was slim. Many also went by two different names which did make it a bit harder to follow.

In the Bones is a gripping thriller with a fierce, relatable protagonist. Lillian’s investigation into cold cases is full of sharp twists and emotional depth, making the story both suspenseful and heartfelt. Wegert’s writing is fast-paced and atmospheric, pulling you into a world of secrets and shadows. Perfect for fans of dark mysteries with strong female leads, this book is a true page-turner you won’t want to miss.

Set in my favorite place in the world, the Thousand Islands, Tessa Wegert’s newest novel was a treat! From the varying viewpoints to the twists and turns of the mystery itself to the repeated use of metaphors involving bones, I was hooked throughout the story. Though anyone could pick this up as the start of the new North Country series, fans of the Shana Merchant series will love following the characters in this one and getting glimpses of the Senior Investigator we all love. So many river staples are mentioned in this one but seeing Millen Bay, the Tibbetts Point lighthouse, the taco truck that is always at the farmer’s market, and so many other special-to-me places made this an easy 5-star read. I find myself looking over my shoulder for Shana and Tim everywhere I go at the river. Thank you to Severn House and NetGalley for my ARC! I’m looking forward to more North Country mysteries in the future!

I really enjoyed this book in the beginning. But it started to get a little confusing when so many characters were mentioned. I loved the phrogging idea. And kinda wish it had been a mystery a little longer. I did like how it was wrapped up in the end but this thriller just wasn’t very thrilling. 3.5 stars rounded up

No year is complete without a visit to The Thousand Islands! Like any Tessa Wegert book this was filled with a captivating mystery, characters that you can’t help but root for, and a town that is intriguing and creepy all at the same time.

For those Shana Merchant fans don’t worry, she does appear in this book but it’s focused more on the current case than Shana and her past. Our girl has grown! You don’t need to read the Shana books before reading this as it acts as a stand alone but why would you ever skip one of the best back stories of any thriller series?

Thank you NetGalley for the ARC! Can’t wait to read more North Country books!

Friends, get excited for this upcoming new release from Tessa Wegert because it’s SPECTACULAR. 🙌

We are back in the 1000 Islands, this time in beautiful Cape Vincent, for another mystery filled with murder and mayhem. When skeletal remains are found in the basement of newly retired NHL hockey player Mikko, who has newly bought a home in Cape Vincent, everyone is a suspect and no one is safe. There are also a rash of thefts in summer homes and everyone is worried - how did our safe little town become so crime-ridden?

I absolutely love the way Wegert tells a story. Her mysteries are character-driven, slow-burn stories where each piece is put together thoughtfully, leading to the explosive conclusion. Once I start her books, I can’t set them down!

I also love that we got to have more time with Shana Merchant (and others, but if you haven’t read the Shana series I don’t want to give spoilers! PLEASE go read those first - they set this story up beautifully!), Mac, and more. While Shana isn’t the central character, she didn’t get abandoned and I adore when authors let us see where their old characters are now.

I did NOT guess the ending here and my jaw was on the ground! I absolutely loved this mystery and the way it unfolded. It doesn’t hurt that it happened in my backyard - I’m from the North Country and all of these locations are special places.

Another 5 star read from Tess Wegert - preorder this one for its release in November! Thanks to @netgalley and @severnhouseimprint for this ARC in exchange for an honest review.
