Wow.. so much activity! Gripping and exciting. I was sure there was going to be a twist were the murderous sisters were related to Lola.. lol
This was my first Arles book and I now have to go back and catch up on the series.
Plus, I am very interested in the wolf brand that is showing up.

Set in Alaska’s unforgiving sub-zero landscape, the setting added real depth to a strong and well-researched plot. Deputy U.S. Marshal Arliss Cutter and his partner Lola Teariki are sent to protect a witness, whose sudden disappearance triggers a tense search in extreme conditions.

I liked the solid character development. The forensic and procedural detail was sharp and believable, and the dynamic between Arliss and Lola was great. The subplot involving Sam Lujan and his mother was a great addition.

The narrator brought the audiobook to life, moving seamlessly between characters and voices. A fast-paced, engaging read with a memorable setting and a cast I’ll definitely return to.

I enjoyed this book overall, but it seemed like the storylines could have woven together better.

Wow! How have I missed this series till now? There is enough backstory that I didn’t feel lost but I am eager to go back to the beginning and cannot wait for the next book too. There are a couple of hints at the end of this book that foreshadow some of the next story.
This book was suspenseful and thrilling but there is also a lot of family drama which adds to character development and I like that. The cold is so terrifying that it becomes a character itself. Two fascinating storylines that kept me wondering how they would come together till almost the end.
The good ones were very good and the bad ones were very bad with one slight exception, sort of. And the horrifying twosome were truly terrible.
Narration was excellent as always with David Chandler. He is a longtime favorite from a couple of other series.
So glad I stumbled onto this series that is new to me.

These are chase stories. Marshals have many responsibilities but Cutter is always Fugitive Apprehension. It all happens in Alaska - in the winter. Brrr - The cold is a character in the story. Cameron in the author notes talks about experiencing 58 below but he puts his characters in an environment of 70 below. Some of the bad guys may not be prepared.
A couple of terrifying killer sisters (you'll be grabbing the back of your neck) A wild ending in a remote area of Alaska.

David Chandler does a nice job with the audio - especially the wild, cold ending.

A good addition to the series.
