Fabulous picture of life in Harlem during the 1920s Harlem Renaissance.
The narrator, African American heroine Harriett along with adopted 12 year old Lovey, leave
the safety of their home in Connecticut to live with a distant relative in Harlem.
All too soon, there is a murder to solve. Our heroine is thrust into a new arena in her life, where past history and the present collide.
Like her namesake, Harriett Tubman, this Harriet is strong and brave, but also compassionate toward the characters who populate this enthralling tale.
Don’t miss this book, whose ending prompts hope of a sequel. Can’t wait!

I loved the idea of this book, it had that historical mystery that I was looking for and enjoyed the use of the Roaring 20s. The plot was everything that I was looking for and enjoyed getting to go on this journey with the characters. Valerie Wilson Wesley was able to create a strong storyline and characters that I cared about. It was everything that I wanted in an entry in the Harriet Stone Mystery series and glad I was able to read this.
