"Nutrition for Outdoor Recreation"is an excellent introduction to nutrition, with terrific expanded content on fueling outdoor adventures. Nutritionist Marisa Michael starts with the basics: calories and macronutrients, then discusses how to calculate one's own calorie needs when having fun outside, which are likely different from an indoor, sedentary day. Specific to outdoor pursuits, Michael covers how to adjust a typical day's diet for altitude, heat/cold, travel, and injury, among other topics. She also has strategies for fueling for specific activities, including how to fuel for snow sports when liquids might freeze, how to balance weight/volume and nutrition when hiking, how to recover in multi-way events, and much more.
Thought, Michael offers citations and anecdotes for those who want to dive deeper into any topic—this is a handy addition to any outdoor adventurer's bookcase.
Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for the ARC.

This is an excellent book for everyone, not only athletes, as most of the content should be basic knowledge for all. There's a lot of science in the book, but it's not very complicated to read, and at the same time, there are references for those who want more.
