My thanks to NetGalley and Saga Press for a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

How to sum up We Are Legion (We Are Bob) in one sentence? Don't mess with engineers.

Poor Bob, newly wealthy due to his own business success, had the misfortune to die on the same day as signing paperwork to have his body cryogenically frozen until such time as he could be revived. Bob's misfortune continues when religious zealots take over, dispose of all such preserved bodies, and essentially enslave their consciousnesses in machines as an alternative to AIs. Tasked by his new overloads to compete with other AIs be the final surviving AI, Bob is tasked with inhabiting a space probe exploring planets to colonize. While few people are content to be slaves, even fewer have Bob's cunning and engineering skills necessary to subvert the system, escape their masters, and lead a revolution.

We Are Legion (We Are Bob) has a winning mix of excellent plot, smart character development, and biting humor. Nerds will laugh their rears off from start to finish. My only slight nitpicks that the second half of the book felt less cohesive; the first half did a better job of balancing humor and plot, whereas the second half was driven more by force of Bob's personality.

4.5 stars

I really liked the concept and the "voice" of all the different Bobs. I also enjoyed the nods to scifi pop culture throughout.
I did lose a little interest towards the end as it began to feel a bit like a farming simulator game. But I hope to see more action in the next book.

Recommended for sci-fi lovers.

Perfect for fans of Weir and Scalzi, We Are Legion is a rib-tickling, beguiling sci-fi lark that mixes in space exploration, first contact, AI, and then some. Like Futurama had a weird alien baby with Project Hail Mary. I absolutely loved it!
