When I read the description of this book, I knew I wanted to read this book - friends to lovers is my absolute favorite trope AND a hostile resort take over? Sign me up! I went into this book very optimistic and I originally really liked the friendship between Poe and Zwe, but I hate to say that as I continued to read the book fell a little flat for me. I never really saw a hint of their chemistry or even sexual tension. Zwe spent most of the book flirting with another woman right in front of Poe's face. They rarely had any alone time and we never got the will they/won't they tension. Also, the resort take over was a bit of a let down as well, I never felt any real danger in the situation and I really did not care for the resolution. Everything just felt like whiplash and so extremely far-fetched. I will say that I read it all in one day as I was anxious to see what would happen but unfortunately it did not live up to my expectations. Thank you Netgalley for the ARC.

This was a really fun romp! Definitely focused more on the crime plot than the romance, but that was fine. I agree with other reviews I’ve seen that it was a bit overwritten at parts and the twists were obvious, but overall it was a fun book to read. I really enjoyed the narration, as well.
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for the ARC in exchange for my honest review.

Here for a Good Time is a high‑energy, emotionally resonant rom‑com that throws its characters into extraordinary circumstances—and does so with heart, heat, and a hint of suspense. Readers seeking a swoony, trope-infused beach novel with a dash of danger will likely find this a perfect getaway.

Here for a Good Time? Then give this a read!
What would you do if you were at a resort by yourself and a group of armed women take over? I can confidently say it would be nothing that was done in this book, but it made for good entertainment. 🤣
This book started and ended strong. The middle needed a little more romance/rension/ and honestly some more action. But, the writing style was great and it made for a quick/easy read. Publish date is this month!
Thanks to the publisher and @netgalley for this copy in exchange for my honest review!

I enjoyed the first 70 to 80% of this book, and then the ending with the love story just kinda like was just OK. The banter wasn’t there for me. The MMC just fell flat, and the FMC was annoying at the endYouou had so much potential if it were either in paperback and not audio, or rewritten for the spicy scene/finally falling in love scenes.

Prime example of an audiobook potentially changing your experience completely!!
In my initial review I mentioned that I may give it another go in audio and when I saw it offered, I grabbed it and so glad that I did as I went from 3⭐️ rating to a solid 4⭐️!
The narrator Jacqui Bardelang did an outstanding job bringing the story alive in so many aspects. She did speak a bit slow for my liking but it was equally corrected as it was perfect at 1.25x speed. It maintained the nuance of her vocal acting as well as didn’t change the pitch. After listening for a bit at that speed, I did speed it up to 2x and even at that speed it was easily understandable.
One thing that added so much to the experience was the narrators British accent while also offering the accents as well as pronunciation of the people of the island which is near the Philippines.
I loved the action that takes place on this “vacation from hell”
While simultaneously wanting to book a vacation in such a place , without masked women trying to take us hostage, as I loved the imagery the author Pyae Moe Thet War penned. It also has a lot of humor and o found myself literally laughing out loud which is. It my typical at all.
This book comes out August 26th 2025 so if you’re looking for a romantic thriller , which is currently one of my favorite fuses genres, grab the audiobook for this one!!
Original Review of the eARC:
3⭐️
I wanted to enjoy this so much but it just didn’t connect for me. It started off alright but then it lost me. However that is me personally! The book is well written and I liked the themes explored in the book so I’m sure many will love it.
Being a person who loves to read I get pulled to books that are about authors. That part of the book I enjoyed but I wish it was more as the romance wasn’t hitting home. I may give this another go in audio when available as I find some books on the cusp for me so better in audio and I end up liking it better. So stay tuned…
I am thankful to have gotten a complimentary eARC from St Martins Press through NetGalley to read which gave me the opportunity to voluntarily leave a review.
My rating system since GoodReads doesn’t have partial stars
⭐️ Hated it
⭐️⭐️ Had a lot of trouble, prose issues, really not my cup of tea (potentially DNF’d or thought about it)
⭐️⭐️⭐️ Meh, it was an ok read but nothing special
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Really enjoyed it! Would recommend to others
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Outstanding! Will circle back and read again

The cover and description absolutely sucked me in, but the rest of the experience left me wanting more, unfortunately.
Poe and Zwe are best friends and roommates, but their romantic relationship hasn't gotten off the ground...yet. What else is stuck? Poe's second book. After finding great success with her first effort, she's now in a zone free of workable ideas. She decides to get unstuck in a pretty fun way: a two-week dream vacation with Zwe. Things get weird when the resort is taken over by masked women.
This sounds like it's going to be a blast: friends to lovers, a tropical location, and some kind of action/adventure bonanza. What's confusing is that despite all of this excitement, this book - for me - dragged. I enjoyed the relationship between Poe and Zwe and the snippets of family, but the bulk of the novel at the resort just did not hold my interest. It felt repetitive and uneventful (again, shocking when one considers the content)!
I'd give this author another shot, but this one unfortunately did not work for me.
