I won’t lie. When I first heard the voice of the narrator I was a bit biased. I have some strong feelings about LIGHTLARK and this is the same narrator. Let me be clear, I have no issue with her voice at all but hearing it brought me back to listening to that book and how annoyed I was at times 😂

The narrator really did a great job telling the story here and bringing the characters to life. Since this is first person narration, it’s really important that the narrator’s voice feels age appropriate and it definitely was here. She sounded 18 as she should.

The love triangle (love square) annoyed me. It seemed very obvious to me who the actual endgame love interest is and I didn’t care about either of the others in their scenes. I see why the others were part of the plot though. They are necessary.

The murder mystery element was well done. I didn’t figure out who the real villain was until quite late into the story.

I would definitely read the sequel to this book. I think fans of THE SELECTION would enjoy the court politics and romance in this story.
