Thank you Net Galley and Lorenzo Colteallacci and Lorenzo Sangio for the ARC in exchange for an honest review.
I read this book with my toddlers on our quest to 1,000 unique children books before kindergarten.
The artwork is ~STUNNING~. I wish my hands could paint beautiful backgrounds and unbelievable landscapes like this illustrators can! The story feels like a fun nod to famous mythologies- a way of explaining the unexplainable (thunder is just the giant snoring under a bridge). All in all, very fun book that leaves you with some things to think about at the end (since the author doesn't give you the answers outright).
Thank you!

Great illustrations that would hold a child's interest. The font seemed like it could have been larger for parents reading to a child.

The Night Giant is a wonderful tale of what occurs in the middle of the night when everyone is supposed to be sleeping. All of the mischief that occurs when no one is looking is a surprise in the morning when everyone tries to figure out what is happening. The night giant goes through a series of adventures as he traverses the sleepy town. What one may think of as mayhem is actually boredom and exploration. The illustrations, although set in few colors is still so brilliant with the environment details. I kept trying to see if I could spot the giant in hiding. This children's book will easily become a classic.
Thank you to the author, publisher, and NetGalley for the opportunity to read this book in exchange for an honest review.

This is a very well made book, and had amazinggg illustrations!!! Love how the colors were used too.

Beautiful children’s book. Loved the story and absolutely loved the illustrations. Thank you to the author. Thank you to #netgalley and the publisher for an ARC.

What a delightful book for children. The illustrations are beautiful and the story is imaginative and fun. I will be looking out for the night giant myself!
This is definitely a book our children’s librarian will be buying for our library!

I feel like this book needed more. The night giant is mischievous but give more mischievous acts to make it interesting and keeping kids attention to the story. I felt like I read a preview to part of a story vs a whole story.

This book was such a fun and silly read, full of charm from start to finish! The whimsical tone and moody illustrations make it a delight to read aloud, and the sweet ending add a layer of warmth and depth that young listeners will love. We were all playful little kids making our own fun once! It would make a fantastic choice for Storytime with little ones as it is engaging, lighthearted, and sure to get some giggles!

First and foremost, I think the cover is very appealing and enough to hook children into wanting to open the book. The use of light and dark throughout this book is very clever indeed and the illustrations are beautiful. From a teaching perspective, I absolutely loved the fact that this is a great discussion starter - it addresses the issues of rumours and different perspectives in a really unique and gentle way which I think is appropriate for children ages 6-12. The clever use of the size of the monster as well shows how the fear of the unknown blows something out of proportion.
I think there's a lot to be gained from this book and it's something which you could either read on a surface-level and discuss the fun the monster has at night or you could delve into the theme of loneliness and different opinions. My only slight criticism for this book is that I find the choice of font/font cover is a little jarring. With such a deliberate play on light and dark, I think it would have been better in a blue/yellow but this takes nothing away from the story whatsoever.

I think you'd really need to know the child you're reading to before reading it. To some children it may come off as a bit spooky (especially younger children who can't yet distinguish fantasy from real life). But if your child is okay with a bit of spook, and is old enough to ask questions about it, this may make a nice bedtime story. It reminded me slightly of "Where the Wild Things Are". I'd recommend for ages 4+.
Thank you, Kids Can Press, for the advanced copy in exchange for a review.

I read this to my class of 2 year olds. They loved it and it held their attention the entire time.
I personally also loved the story and thought the illustrations were wonderful. It gives an opportunity to talk about differences/how they feel and open up a dialogue. I would definitely recommend.

I was pleasantly surprised by how much I enjoyed The Night Giant, Lorenzo Coltellacci’s new picture book about a mischievous giant who roams after dark. The creativity throughout the story is wonderful. It’s a perfect bedtime read that will spark your child’s imagination about what might really happen at night.

"No one knows where he comes from or who he is."
Cute and adorable.
I read somewhere that this was good for kids who want a gentle spooky ritual for bedtime. It's the right choice of words. A gentle spook that ends up being real cute. We explore beautiful and funny scenes, rather than fear of a monster.
"The Giant loves the night because that's when the streetlights are lit. He wonders how the light got in there."
It's soft and welcoming. As I read the Night Giant I felt at home and safe. The soft colors and this fluffy texture.
The blue and yellow create such a calm and welcoming atmosphere. It's soothing, like when night falls and you can finally rest in the comforting embrace of the night.
I loved the palette of colors and how they were used. The illustrations are really beautiful. It's such a peaceful place, as we are wandering through the streets of this town at night, with the Giant. Surely a magical, reassuring book to flip through at night before bed.

This is a lovely illustrated picture book, telling the story of a giant blue monster playing in a town. Perfect for young children

Utterly charming!
This captures the wonder, sweet innocence and simplicity of classics that we had as kids. It's lovely to see books like this for the new generation of kids. Such beautiful art, a beautiful sweet story and an easy decision to make on whether or not to add to your kids library - the answer is yes.
Already thinking about buying this & gifting this to 2 families!

The illustrations in this book are stunning. The majority of the pages show night time with mostly blues and then yellow lights and this is really effective. I really liked how the monster doesn't do the monstery things they usually do in stories, but instead is just playing, making him a character for children to relate to, rather than be afraid of. I loved the idea of the monster making towers out of benches and using cars as rollerskates!
