This just isn’t working for me right now so I’m not going to finish reading this. I hate not finishing ARC’s but I don’t want to continue this just to give it a middling review. This is well researched and extremely informative. There is so much detail about the Republican Party and I would recommend people try this. It’s just too much for me right now and not what I was expecting it to be.

A great look at the 30+ year slide of the Republican Party from the party of Corporate America to the party of Right Wing fringe weirdos. The dismantling of the welfare state and the long flirtation with (paradoxical) authoritarian populism is well captured in the slide from Goldwater, to Gingrich, to the current Fascistic regime under Trump. The author has written for numerous Socialist publications, so you know the perspective you are getting up front. This is precisely the kind of critique I have been looking for - one that takes a materialist approach to understanding the dismantling of the traditional American Right
