This volume lacked any punch. It has a great cliffhanger but not enough meat on the bone is established in volume one to keep me reading. The pace was far too slow. The art is lovely and gives Dark Crystal vibes.

Thanks NetGalley for the ARC.

This is the first volume so it sets up the story of Kamuna, the first human born in a world of demi-creatures. Telling the story of how the world came to be and introducing key characters, it tells just enough of the story to get you interested in what's coming next. A beautiful art style that will lend itself well when it hopefully gets picked up as an anime ;)

I was curious when I heard the duo behind the Legend of Zelda manga adaptions were doing an original work. After reading it? It's cool! I love the demi people and how interesting and varied their designs are. Its clear this world and its workings has been thought out. This has the makings of a really interesting fantasy tale, so far the story has been mostly setup, but I'm interested to see where it will go from here.

I was initially drawn to this book when I saw the colorful and striking cover illustration, and was intrigued to learn it was the same artist from the Zelda manga. The art style reminds me of 80s/90s fantasy and animation, with creature designs that bring to mind The Dark Crystal. I really enjoyed the introduction into the world and characters, setting the atmosphere and building up the lore. It takes a good portion of the book before main character Kamuna is center-stage, but I found everyone else interesting enough to be invested in the story. Off to a promising start and I look forward to seeing how the series progresses!
