Two war orphans, Xin and Piao, are living in the same household during the Warring States period. They had dreams of becoming famous generals and practiced with wooden swords whenever they could. Then Piao was taken to the palace by a nobleman. When he returned later, he was dying, but he had a request for Xin - Go to the place on the map and he would find out why Piao was killed. So Xin went, fighting off bandits and villagers on his way to discover why and for whom Piao had died. Now Xin needed to choose - go back to his old life or follow his destiny and go forward! It will be interesting to follow Xin on his journey into history

This is a series I've known of for a while, but never actually read, even though it sounded interesting. The handful of chapters we get in this volume set up the premise well. Two characters who started out with nothing but their own strengths and ambitions, are thrown into a much grander plot, complete with a death and a body double. While the action is nice and fluid, it's the plotting and scheming that keep me hooked. What can I say? I like stories with political intrigue! I'm glad I finally got a chance to read an official version!
