Anime and manga alike are packed with ghost stories, so doing something new with them is a difficult task. Fortunately, PHANTOM BUSTERS doesn't feel like the same sort of story retreaded. While it's fully of spooky stories and art, the playfulness at its core and the unique mechanics of its ghost-hunting make it an interesting read.
Rather than focusing on one superpowered protagonist, the story centers on Eugene - a hero with NO special abilities. He transfers to a new school with a strong disbelief in ghosts, thanks in part to his late grandmother (apparently) breaking her promise to visit him as a spirit after her death. Then he meets Mogari, a boy descended from a line of spirit mediums. His power? He eats ghosts. Together with a growing circle of new friends, each with their own unique abilities, they form a phantom-busting group. Together, they do what they can to help spirits move on... or dispose of them if they're dangerous.
Simply by virtue of dividing abilities across multiple protagonists, requiring them to work together to achieve their goals, PHANTOM BUSTERS stands head and shoulders above so many other paranormal manga. The thread of threat concerning Mogari's family line also promises that there's plenty more intrigue to come.

I really enjoyed this manga but unfortunately there is one panel with two naked characters. While you can't see and bits or bobs, for my school district this is an automatic no. I personally found the characters and pacing hilarious.

Reading volume one of Phantom Busters, I can understand why this series has been long awaited by manga fans in North America. It's a funny supernatural action manga with interestingly faulty characters who come together to make up an exorcism club. I'll definitely be recommending this to people looking for a new shonen series to start.

Do you like the see no evil, hear no evil, speak no evil monkeys but they are wacky teen boy ghost exorcists? Then this manga is for you!

this was actually so silly, what a fun time! the characters are all interesting and the art is great too

This was fantastic! Phantom Busters for sure checks all the boxes for me! The character were amazing, the story even more so. It was a really good take on the ghost hunting/exorcist manga. I also feel like the art deserves are shout out! I can't wait to see what comes next for this series!

I love it!! This is a really fun group of characters and its an unusual take on the typical ghost hunting genre. I'm really enjoying it so far!

oh, I absolutely love this. the characters are so fun and the plot is so interesting. i'm a sucker for a good exorcist manga. hopefully this gets an anime adaptation. i can't wait to read more.

I knew I’d like this one! It was so good. The vibes gave off a mix between JJK (mainly cause of the characters like itadori, norbara and megumi) and My Noisy Roommate (exorcising ghosts). The comedy was great and every page kept me hooked. Not to mention the art? Hello!
I could definitely see this becoming an anime, and if it did, it would be awesome!
Thank you NetGalley and Viz Media for the ARC… i need the next volumes!
