This is the 2nd explosive thriller in the Simon Peake series by this author and it is absolutely chock-full of action, twists, and shocks.
Peake has tried to lay low, but this is not him. He attracts trouble. His current relationship is ok but he doesn't really have any commitment, even though Jenn would like to think it has. Her brother brings trouble to his door, and rather than doing as he was asked to do and get rid of the body, he shoots the messengers.
This story once again has Peake in the midst of chaos, crime and government agencies. The agencies play by their own rules, but then so do others. Not everything is above board in the small town in Georgia. There are gangs and affiliations as well as freelancers and then there is Peake. A Brit ex special forces with a dubious background, but has does seem to have a "do the right thing" attitude, albeit in a "not by the book" way!
The pacing of this story is fast, there are many twists, and then more twists. The author has a great way of conveying the crimes the twists and also letting the plots and conclusions fall just right. It means as a reader I am never completely sure if the idea I have in my head is right but as I read it always seems to make sense. You may make some connections, but not all of them so there are shocks to be had.
This is a book that deals with crime, murder and gangs, so there is some interesting reading, but kept within the context of the story and not the gory details, well, not too much!
If you are looking for a fast-paced, action-packed story with an interesting lead protagonist, then this one may be right for you. I adored the second book as much as the first and can't wait to see what the author has lined up for Peake next. I would definitely recommend it.

Y’all! Deadly Mistake kicks off with a midnight knock, three men, and a trunk holding a not-so-dead woman. From there it’s bullets, mob bosses, drug cartels, and CIA suits who don’t play nice. ⚠️🩸
Simon Peake? Haunted, lethal, and way too human to ignore. Rob Sinclair writes like a live wire—tense, sharp, and cinematic. You’ll hear the gunfire, taste the danger, and feel the chaos. 💥
Why 4 stars? Sometimes the heart got lost in the crossfire. But honestly? If gritty, high-octane thrillers are your jam, this one’s a ride.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ — Explosive, dark, and seriously addictive.

Well this was my kind of book straight from the start I was hooked.
I haven’t read the first book I’m not sure if it impacted on this read, I didn’t feel it did but I now want to read anything that contains Simon Peake.
I loved how fast paced this book was, so full of action and tension, was there brutal violence, yes but I wouldn’t expect anything less with dealing with CIA cartel and so many bad guys.
It was clear Peake was trying to stay below the radar but that didn’t last, I loved it I think Jack Reacher may have met his match in Simon Peake, such a great read and I’m desperately awaiting further instalments.

This is book 2 in the Simon Peake series however it reads well as a standalone. Former special forces member, Peake has moved on from New York and is now living in a quiet backwater in Georgia. He does not have to look far for trouble as it finds him and turns his life upside down. This is a fast and full action book which will leave you breathless. Once again Peake is drawn into a life of violence and corruption as he tries to do the decent thing in saving a mysterious woman.
A gripping thriller from start to finish.

Deadly Mistake is the second book in the Simon Peake series. I have read and enjoyed them both and would recommend reading them in order, but this could also be read as a standalone story. It is a fast paced, action packed thriller which is full of surprising twists and turns which kept me gripped from beginning to end.
Thank you to NetGalley and Boldwood Books for my ARC.

With the second book in the series, we now find Peake in Georgia trying to lie low for a while however that isn't going to happen when he is caught up, deposing of a dead body that isn't dead !! It is fast paced - maybe too much at times - with plenty of action and violence. I still enjoyed the read and look forward to the next book.
Thanks to Netgalley/Boldwood books for the ARC to review

This is the second in the Simon Peake series so, for full enjoyment wrt background and character development, I would recommend you read book one, Dead Reckoning, first.
In this book, we catch up with Simon as he has relocated to a small rural town in Georgia. He is ticking along mostly nicely. Until, one night a car with three people in turns up to the farmhouse he is renting. He recognises one of them and, apparently it is he who has recommended to the other two that Simon is the man who can help with their dilemma. The have a body to get rid of...
Things go south, which I will leave you to discover, but the main thing to come out of it all is that the "body" isn't a body at all. Well, she is a body but she isn't dead...
And so begins another action packed romp which has Simon not knowing who to trust (again) or where to turn. It appears that there are layers, levels, of secrets, lies, cats, mice, and so much obfuscation that the author does incredible well to keep all the plates spinning all the way through, delivering shock after surprise until we race to a wholly satisfying conclusion.
My only little niggle is that maybe, for me anyway, the action was a bit overwhelming at times. I don't mean the level of violence, although that is high, I mean that it overshadowed the story a bit too much for me. I almost forgot who was who and what was what and why we were fighting...
But that said, it's a worthy addition to an already impressive back catalogue. Although, in my opinion, nothing will ever top his original Enemy series, beginning with Dance with the Enemy and featuring Carl Logan...
My thanks go to the Publisher and Netgalley for the chance to read this book.

Closer to 3.5 star for me considering that I have read the previous book.
Many thanks to the publishers Boldwood Books for including me in this ARC and extending my thanks to the team of NetGalley and the author Rob, may you write even taller tales and entertain.
I came into Deadly Mistake with high hopes. It is Book Two in the Simon Peake series and promises a fast paced gritty thriller. The opening scene already sets the tone: a knock at Simon Peake’s door late in the night, three men, a body in the trunk and the shock that the “dead” woman inside is not dead after all. From there the plot drags Peake back into a world he has tried to leave behind: one of drug cartels, mob bosses, rogue CIA operatives, betrayals, and violence. The stakes are high and the risks feel real.
One of the strongest aspects of this novel is its action sequences. Rob does not shy from tension. Car chases, gunfights, fights of survival, constant danger: these parts are constructed with enough detail to be immersive. Peake’s background in special forces comes into play, both in his skill set and in the scars both physical and emotional that still haunt him. This gives the character moments of genuine vulnerability which help temper the otherwise relentless pace. There are also surprises and twists that work well to keep the reader second-guessing what might happen next.
However for me there were edges of Deadly Mistake that prevented it from rising beyond “good.” First the cast of antagonists and secondary characters felt a bit underdeveloped. Some villains are somewhat generic, motivations sketched but not always fully fleshed out. The plotting, while ambitious, sometimes asks us to accept coincidences or leaps in logic that stretch credulity. At times I wished for more breathing room: time to understand the relationships, the emotional cost, Peake’s internal conflicts beyond the action.
Rob Sinclair delivers what the genre and his book blurb promises. The writing moves swiftly, dialogue crackles and the descriptions of danger are visceral. The pacing is relentless which is both a blessing and a burden: it keeps adrenaline high but occasionally leaves little room for reflection or character depth. The moral shades are present but not always probed deeply.
Overall,, I admired the story's raw energy, its momentum and its promise of how the Simon Peake arc might evolve. But I also felt that some of the promise was lost to clichés and missed opportunities to deepen what is still a memorable hero and a more haunting antagonist. Fans of fast high stake thrillers with gunfire and grit will likely enjoy this. Those seeking more nuance or emotional resonance may find themselves wanting a bit more.
A well read volume.

I enjoyed this one it’s his second book in the Simon peake series
Blurb
A knock on the door in the middle of the night catches ex-Special Forces Simon Peake off guard. He only recognizes one of the three men standing on the other side, and the ‘help’ they need is to dispose of a dead body crumpled in the trunk of their car.
Problem is - the woman in the trunk isn’t dead at all. ⚠️
In a matter of moments, Peake makes a call to help and protect this stranger, but it’s a decision that will drag him back into the dark and dangerous world of drug cartels, mob bosses, and rogue CIA operatives who will stop at nothing to use Peake as a pawn in their games.
Having spent the last few months living in near seclusion in small town Georgia, Peake is once again faced with his past. He knows why these men have chosen to come to his door in their hour of need, but unfortunately for them, they didn’t realise what a deadly mistake that would be… ☠️🩸

Deadly Mistake by Rob Sinclair is a thriller; a very violent thriller. If one didn’t know better they would assume that Simon Peake, the protagonist, is Superman. He is able to take on, and best, multiple bad guys at one time. At his core he is a good guy, but he has skills. If you love violence, this is the book for you. Often such violent books don’t have much story outside of the fighting scenes but that is not the case with Deadly Nights, which has several serious plot lines running through the fighting. Peake can sometimes be a fixer, or at least that is what Adam McGinty thought when he and two other men brought Peake a body to be disposed of. Poor Adam, would he ever grow up? Peake did not like these guys and when they started something, he finished it. He kept their $10,000. Then he discovered that the body was a woman, a still-alive woman. Being the man he is, he patched her up, buried the dead guys (in pieces), and lit the small house on fire. Where to next?
This story has layers of bad guys, all with their own thugs. Peake fought through a mass of them, drawing ever closer to the man who had instigated it all. As he fought, Lucia recovered. He heard her story; especially the part about her son, and kept fighting onward. Don’t love all the violence, but what shown through was a good man in a bad situation who had little or no impulse control. He was a good character with many surprising traits. He had a relationship with Adam’s sister, Jenn, that kept rising to the fore and kept the whole thing almost sane.
I was invited to read Deadly Mistake by Boldwood Books. All thoughts and opinions are mine. #Netgalley #BoldwoodBooks #RobSinclair #DeadlyMistake

Simon Peake Thrillers #2
A knock on the door in the middle of the night catches ex-Special Forces Simon Peake off guard. He only recognises one face of the three men standing on the other side, and the "help" they need is to dispose of a dead body crumpled in the boot of their car. The problem is - the woman in the boot of the car isn't dead at all. In the matter of minutes, Peake a call to help her and protect this stranger, but it's a decision that will drag him back into the dark and dangerous world of drug cartels, mob bosses, and rogue CIA operatives who will stop at nothing to use Peake as a pawn in their games.
The pace is fast in this dark and action-packed read. Peake is a ruthless character and has the ability to over-power his victims. This is a violent read ao it won't be suit the faint of heart. The tension builds throughout. There were a mixed bunch of characters. At times, I had to stop reading for a minute because of all the gore, but I still enjoyed this book.

I would like to thank #NetGalley #BoldwoodBooks and the author #RobSinclair for my ARC of #DeadlyMistake in exchange for an honest review.

The third Rob Sinclair book and second book in the Simon Peake series I have read. A fast paced read for me in this all action thriller. Thanks to the publisher and NetGalley for the chance to ARC this book.

Another great story in the Simon Peake series, keeping you on the edge of the seat for a fair chunk of the book as you wait to see how it will all play out.

Deadly Mistake by Rob Sinclair is a highly recommended action-packed thriller. This is the second book in the series featuring former special forces agent Simon Peake.
Peake is living in the country near a small town in Georgia when three men show up at his house offering him a bag full of cash to dispose of a body in the trunk of their car. The problem is two fold. He only knows one of the men and isn't thrilled that he brought strangers to his door to do this job. The second is that the woman in the trunk is not dead. Peake chooses to help the woman and eliminate the two strangers while the man he knows runs off. This decision sets into motion a series of violent, deadly encounters in the world of drug cartels, mob bosses, and rogue CIA operatives.
This is a well-written, fast-paced, action-packed thriller. The danger is palpable and ever present. The tension is high throughout the novel. There is also a whole lot of gruesome violence. I don't think I've read a novel before where so many bones are snapped/broken and joints are dislocated, among many other actions. I will perhaps skip any other books in this series because of the overwhelming violence. It does have an intricate plot and the violence is a natural outcome of the encounters rather than being gratuitous.
Deadly Mistake is a good choice for those who enjoy action-packed thrillers. Thanks to Boldwood Books for providing me with an advance reader's copy via NetGalley. My review is voluntary and expresses my honest opinion.
The review will be published on Barnes & Noble and Amazon.

Fast paced, brilliant action, keep you on the edge of your seat. A page turner at it's best.
Who runs the drug cartels? Who belongs to CIA, etc. Does anyone really know, who is who?
Thank you Netgalley for letting me read this book.

Ex Special Forces person, Simon Peake was living quietly on a remote farm in Georgia, away from the noise of the town, but when he heard a knock on the door in the middle of the night, he was caught unawares. One of the three men he knew, but not the others. They wanted - demanded - his help in getting rid of a body, stashed in the boot of their car, but when Peake checked, the woman wasn't dead. Badly injured, brutally beaten, but alive. So Peake did what he did best - he got rid of the two strangers, while the one he knew ran off. And he cared for the woman until she regained consciousness.
Dragged back into the world he'd tried to escape from, with the strange woman by his side, he attempted to discover what was going on; who had tried to kill this woman. It wasn't long before Peake was in the sights of the bad guys around town; drug cartels, agents who'd moved over to the bad side, and mob bosses who showed no fear (though they should have). Peake was determined to find the answers he needed; but did he believe the tales the woman was telling him? Not particularly, but he had a way to make her tell the truth...
Deadly Mistake is the 2nd in the Simon Peake Thrillers by Rob Sinclair and although I haven't read #1, I didn't suffer from it. Filled with fast paced tension, gripping scenarios and brutal bad guys, I couldn't put the book down! Simon is a great character - a good "bad" guy, empathetic to the victims and downtrodden, but definitely not to the bad guys! A fantastic read which I recommend, and I'm looking forward to the next.
With thanks to NetGalley & Boldwood Books for my digital ARC to read and review.

Wow another fantastic read from Rob Sinclair. This time Simon Peake is caught up in a situation in Georgia. Three men appear outside his door and he only recognises one of them. The following chaos that ensues sees him travel across to Florida via many, many situations which he is struggling to understand. This is very much in the genre of Reacher with plenty of excitement along the way. For someone with Simon Peakes skills, he is a very likeable rogue. You are rooting for him the whole way, thinking "be careful".
The characters are so well written that you either want them to make it to the end of the book in one piece or you want something bad to happen because they are so obnoxious.
It feels like it is going to be a long wait for the next instalment, but very much looking forward to it. With thanks to the author, Boldwood Books and Netgalley for the opportunity to read this book.

Deadly Mistake is the second installment in Rob Sinclair’s Simon Peake series, and it delivers another dark, fast-paced, and violent ride. I really enjoyed Dead Reckoning, so I was eager to see where Sinclair would take Peake next. This time, instead of New York, we find him in Georgia, trying to keep a low profile—but of course, trouble finds him anyway.
The opening is explosive: three men show up at Peake’s door with a “body” in the trunk, expecting him to dispose of it. The catch? The woman isn’t dead. Peake refuses to finish the job, and in doing so, sets off a chain of brutal consequences that drags him into a world of gangs, cartels, and corrupt operatives who all have their own agenda. From that moment forward, it’s relentless action and escalating stakes.
Sinclair has a knack for writing an anti-hero you can’t look away from. Peake is ruthless, clever, and capable of immense violence, but there’s also a streak of loyalty and morality that makes him compelling. He’s not a typical clean-cut hero—he’s the guy you call when you’re in trouble, though you may regret getting him involved.
Be warned: this book doesn’t hold back on violence. There are scenes that edge into truly disturbing territory, and while it’s not gratuitously gory, it’s definitely not a cozy thriller. That said, it suits the world Sinclair has built. The villains are vile, the tension is high, and the danger feels very real.
The pacing is excellent, moving from one explosive set piece to the next without losing sight of the bigger mystery: who is the woman Peake has chosen to save, and why does everyone want her dead? By the time the pieces click into place, it’s clear this is only the beginning of a much larger game.
Deadly Mistake feels like a movie playing out on the page—action-packed, gritty, and relentless. Fans of Jack Reacher, Jason Bourne, or Mark Dawson’s Beatrix Rose series will feel right at home here. I’ll definitely be waiting to see what Sinclair throws at Simon Peake next.

I enjoyed the original book in this series, Dead Reckoning, so was looking forward to the second book. I had hoped he would still be in New York and finish the little things from that one but we are in Georgia with a new problem. He also has a new shifty employer - but when you are an ex con and hiding, life can be like that I guess.
Be warned that this one is very violent if you are not into that. It rarely bothers me but there were a few scenes in this that leaned more into psychopath than typical thriller violence. Not indepth gore, but not just shooting/stabbing people like similar books either. Dead Reckoning was too, but this one hits differently.
It seems like Peake has been busy since getting to Georgia despite wanting a quiet life and hiding out after New York. When someone knocks on his door, he knows already that Peake is the kind of guy who can help you get rid of a body. The problem is, this one is still breathing and murdering her a second time over is not something Peake will do (and we know he has a soft spot for women).
That starts him on a path where he will battle CIA operatives, local gangs and more as he tries to find out just who the woman is and why someone would want her dead. Although I am not sure why anyone trusted Hardy to do it when his guys didn't have a definite plan for disposing of her body. It seems like he should know how to get rid of a body from other scenes?
Thanks to Boldwood Books and Netgalley for the copy for review. It looks like we will have to wait a while for the next one with an expected publication date of July 2026 but I am looking forward to reading that one too.

This review was provided by my husband after he read this book. (The content proved too violent and graphic for my taste.)
Past paced, and full on action from the hero Simon Peake, kept the reader’s attention from flagging. A suspension of disbelief is required as it becomes ever more convoluted and intense. An enjoyable action thriller.
Thanks to the publisher and Netgalley for the advance copy of this book.
