Another fabulous novel by this author. I simply couldn’t put it down. I felt I really related to this story too as my own child has autism and it was nice to see them included in a storyline.

I’m not 100% sure but I feel there may be a novel coming about Eve next!? Maybe there already is one I’m not sure but I can’t wait to see what’s next in the series!

I resonated with this book so much, right from the beginning.
Both Eden and Drew had hard childhoods, Eden has moved back home with her son teddie, Drew is Pathologist who works in the same hospital as Eden. Upon meeting drew in the hospital car park while her som who has ASD was brushing his hand along Drew’s car, Drew just silently stood there and let him do his thing, at the time Eden was so apologetic to Drew, until Drew told her that he understands as he also has ASD. This was the bringing of a beautiful friendship, Will it turn into love, Will Teddies dad spoil it all with his coercive behaviour? Is Drew ready for a relationship?
The author has really done their research on ASD, and has conveyed it really well.
Loved this book from start to finish.
Thank you Netgalley, the publisher and author for an ARC copy of this book.

This book is part of The Cornish Country Hospital series, although it can be read as a standalone novel.
This book focuses on Eden, one of the nurses, and Drew, a Pathologist. It also features some of the characters from the previous books which is always very enjoyable.
This book focuses a lot on Autism, both Drew and Eden's young Son have Autism, and this book shows what a wide spectrum it is. I have some experience with Autism, and I think that this book is very well written and very insightful and informative.
This is a very emotional book, heartwarming, heartbreaking and gripping in places. It was an emotional rollercoaster of a read. I really enjoyed reading it though. I'm looking forward to reading the next book in the series.
Thank you to Netgalley and Boldwood Books for my Arc.

Thanks to the Publisher and Netgalley for an early review copy.

I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book.

Eden has recently come out of a relationship that wasn’t a happy one, and now living in Port Kara she feels like she’s safe and can live life as she wants to.

She works as an A&E nurse and the patients she sees on a daily basis are a mixture of not too good and really bad ones.
But, at the end of her shift, she can go home and be with Teddie, her son who is four years old, teddie has ASD, his way of talking to Eden, is really special and Eden loves that he tries to express himself in this way, and Eden can’t contemplate life without him in it.

Drew also works at the hospital as a pathologist and he like being on his own, and prefers things done a certain way.

Eden meets Drew and Teddie is with her, he immediately why Teddie is behaving like he does, as Drew himself is on the ASD spectrum.

Eden and Drew begin to spend time together and they start to have feelings for each other, but as both have been through unhappy relationships, they have second thoughts of making their feelings known to each other.

If they decide to let each other know how they feel, Eden and Drew will have to inform each other of what they’ve been through. Hopefully be able to feel like they can trust each other going forward.

But, things change when Eden’s ex makes contact with her. What will Eden do to ensure her new life doesn’t have his presence in it?

The story is about family. We meet the friends we made in previous books and catch up with what’s happening in their lives too.

I highly recommend this book.

Wow what an emotional one this is from Jo Bartlett. That connection between Drew and Teddie!
It’s been lovely being back in Port Kara and seeing Eden with the team in the hospital is wonderful.
Jo has such a beautiful way of writing such warm and empathetic characters and the connection between drew and Teddie had me laughing and crying through out.
Eden’s struggles in both her past and in trying to do the right thing for Teddie are handled sympathetically and the details about autism covered so well - interesting and informative with obvious detailed research and knowledge.

Eden is a nurse in the A&E department at the hospital, a single mother she looks after her autistic son Teddie after splitting with his father. Struggling with looking after Teddie, who is non verbal she meets Drew, a pathologist, who happens to be a high level functioning autistic. He offers to help her with Teddie, with his own background giving him an insight into his condition. Both are wary of forming a relationship due to their previous experiences.
In this the latest book in the series there is less about the actual hospital itself, concentrating on Eden, Drew and Teddie. The author obviously has knowledge of bringing up a severely autistic child and it certainly helped me understand a bit more about the condition and the wide variation in how it affects people . Eden comes across as being very empathetic and Drew as normally being comforted by certainty. Seeing them beginning to form a relationship despite their individual concerns and centering this around Teddie was heart warming.
I received an advance copy of this book from the publisher through Netgalley, however this did not influence my review of the book.

Eden Grainger returns to Port Kara with her young son, Teddie, determined to build a safer, happier life after leaving a damaging relationship. As she begins her new role as an A&E nurse, she also faces the challenge of mending her fractured relationship with her mother. Teddie, who is on the autism spectrum, is the heart of Eden’s world, and his presence makes this story especially moving.

At St Piran’s Hospital, Eden meets Drew Redford, a pathologist who thrives on routine and order. Drew, who has high-functioning autism, forms a quick and natural bond with Teddie, creating the foundation for a slow-burn romance with Eden. Their journey is filled with vulnerability, healing, and quiet hope.

With a vivid Cornish setting, familiar supporting characters, and Bartlett’s trademark warmth, this book balances heartbreak and uplift beautifully. Sensitive, romantic, and full of heart, it’s a perfect read for fans of medical romance and second chances.

A very enjoyable read, filled with a dishy pathologist and a A&E nurse. Eden is on duty at Christmas in the hospital when she bumps into Drew. Drew has autism and while he’s dealing with the deceased, he’s hopeless at dealing with the living. Eden manages to find to break this, while she has an Autistic son too. It’s a lovely reading showing that if you have Autism you can have a normal life. The author wrote it very well and knew what she was writing about which is great. A perfect Christmas read highlighting Autism. 5 stars. Thanks to Netgalley and the publishers for a copy.

Jo is such a wonderful author. He writing speaks to me every single time. I cant get enough of the stories she creates. This one like all her others kept me captured all the way through. The world she builds for us is like I'm there, sat in the room or amongst the locals. We'll, id actually very much like to be part of this community having properly fallen in love with it by now.
This book is a really well done representation of autism and I love how with two characters sharing the conditions you can see the comradery but also the difference can be there too. And also how one might come to it as a mother and as a son or partner. Its a really great experience giver.
This book also touches upon the bravery of woman to flee. Not only the act but then navigating how its ongoing effects can grip you, shape you, form how you are. And then having to go home like Eden did.
Both are at the hospital setting again but we get to know them outside of this two.
I loved there relatio ship. The quiet strength in both of them as they grew in affections. But also how what they both had in their own lives to content with meant lots to work through. Together or apart? I know I was rooting for them.
This book was like watching a family grow. And all that comes with that. And how you can navigate anything when love is the strength you have between you all.
I loved this book. I have to admit to getting quite emotional at times too.
Jo's books are just read read always read books. And I feel so lucky I get to do just that.
A go-to author every single time.

Round up to 4.5 out of 5 stars. This is another great addition to Jo Bartlett’s Cornish Country Hospital series. I love reading the back-stories of the different characters and how the stories are all connected. But, you could also read them as standalone novels if you wanted. This one was interesting because it highlighted the varying experiences of autistic people. It also shows just how deeply loss, family dynamics, gaslighting and more can impact a person’s view of themselves and ability to trust their gut instincts. I think this novel could be more triggering for someone with these types of experiences compared to Bartlett’s other books but I also think it’s more “real” or relatable. Overall, I enjoyed this one and hope the series continues!

Sweet!

This book was a bit different for me than the others in the series. The other books put a lot of focus on the characters' lives at the hospital, while this one centered on the 2 main characters, Eden (and her son) and Drew. Yes, both worked at the hospital, but only a small amount of the story took place there. That's ok, just pointing out the difference.

Eden is doing her best to raise her young son, Teddie who has autism. She escaped a situation that would likely have become violent, and is now back in Port Kara living with her parents. There's a difficult history with them, as well, but she had no other choice. Drew, a hospital pathologist, is autistic himself, so he understands what Eden is facing and offers his help. Their relationship grows from there until an unexpected situation threatens it all.

The book was a bit slow starting for me, but did pick up. I felt very glad that Eden found a good man like Drew, and that Teddie would now have a family! Looking forward to the next book in the series.

Thanks to the author, publisher and NetGalley for the opportunity to read and review this book, but my opinions are my own.

Eden has been in a toxic relationship for to long her partner cannot except that there son has autism and still cant communicate at four years old.
Every time she tries to leave he threatens to hurt himself but shes had enough and needs to leave.

She moves back to cornwall with her parents and gets a job working in the local hospital A and E department.

Drew works as a pathologist at the hospital and has often seen eden at the shop while he has been there he really likes eden but he has a problem that they both share that can only help them in the long run.

I want to say thank you from the bottom of my heart to the author, the publisher and Netgalley for allowing me the privilege of being able to read this book. I really appreciate it.

It's not very often I have to do, but I'm starting my review by putting a disclaimer first, because it's really only the romance that saved this book for me. For those who need to know because I would have loved to have known this before hand or I wouldn't have read this book, no matter how good that romance was, there are 3 mentions of child death (not the fmc's child) in this book and at times they are very detailed impactful moments and in no way are they truly glossed over. Please keep this in mind before reading because they are all throughout this book.

This book needs that warning, it's not at the beginning of the book and it's on in the description either. If I had known that I would not have arc read this book. Apart from that this book is a lot of tell and not show and the descriptions for a lot of things are very long and really can take away from this story. I don't know if its just in this book or that way in the whole series as I've never read the whole series. However I didn't know that either before getting into this book, but that's a big plus because you can most definitely if you choose to do, read this book and the others out of order and you don't feel like you've missed anything.

The actual romance between Eden (there's another character named Eve as well and the names can get mixed up though) and Drew was truthfully what saved this story. The relationship they create was truly breathtaking and exactly the type that will make you believe in love again. They work so well and how drew takes to Teddie was everything you want to see and so much more. If we could tone down everything I mentioned above this would have been a truly 5 star read at least.

Thank you very much again from the bottom of my heart for allowing me the privilege of being able to read this book. I really appreciate it.

What happens when two people with broken pasts find healing through love, compassion, and a shared understanding? 💙

📖 Mending Hearts at the Cornish Country Hospital by Jo Bartlett
⭐️⭐️⭐️✨ (3.5)
🫑 (No Spice)
💫 Genre: Cozy Romance
⚠️ TW: Effects of emotional abuse in a relationship, grief, death, child loss

Eden has just escaped her emotionally abusive ex—the father of her autistic son, Teddie. Now working as a nurse, she pours all her love and energy into being the mother Teddie needs. At the hospital, she meets Drew, a pathologist who was also diagnosed autistic. What begins as Eden seeking guidance about how to better support her son slowly deepens into a tender, genuine connection.

This story gives a heartfelt and realistic look at the challenges of raising an autistic child—navigating judgment from others, prioritizing happiness, and finding strength in the small victories. It also portrays the lingering effects of manipulation from an abusive partner and Eden’s journey to rediscover her own identity and self-worth.

I loved how Drew and Eden’s relationship grew with care and patience, each respecting boundaries while always putting Teddie first. Drew’s compassion and steadiness paired with Eden’s resilience made for a romance that felt safe, healing, and quietly powerful. Though light on romance, this book was cozy, endearing, and the perfect palate cleanser.

Thanks Netgalley for the ARC!

I have been waiting for the new episode of the "Cornish Country Hospital" series (aka the book version of Grey's anatomy but less racy and less messy relationships within the hospital) ever since I read the last book. This book was of 2 new characters who were not in the main cast the previous books, so it was not as familiar to read about them, I had to think quite hard if I had read about them, even in passing before.

But again, the story flows, as the hospital is one big family, with A&E disasters, deaths and somehow 2 people finding love in each other despite all the complications of life. It was not really linked to the people of the previous episodes, but I'm happy to get to know new people. I can only feel relieved when the ex-husband issue was resolved and all went well despite the drama and heartache Eden felt when she was forced to still save the evil ex-husband.

A good read, and I am now waiting for the next book!

An absolutely beautiful story. As an AuDHD Mama to two Autistic kiddos, Eden, Drew, and Teddie’s story really resonated deeply with me. Whilst it did cover some heavy topics, it was gently and respectfully done.

Only thing I disagreed with is there have been some legitimate studies that show heavy metal toxicity can worsen Autism symptoms, and doing a detox can help reduce stress and distress for the Autistic person. So I felt reducing it to a conspiracy theory was a little unfair.

I very much believe that Autism is not curable, and also having children who have been violent with it, and having done heavy metal detoxes on them and (being realistic that Autism is incurable, and I love them just as they are) knowing that it can help reduce their self-harm, and help soothe them and make their overloads more manageable for their little bodies. I totally believe that they are loved and wanted just as is, and I also believe that Autism is the same as any other disorder or illness. You’d use a cast for a broken arm or insulin for diabetes. I see heavy metal detoxes the same as putting them in sensory friendly natural clothing or getting them noise reducing headphones - it makes the world more manageable and tolerable for them. And I felt reducing parents who have done this, simply as a means to try and help their kids (but not “fix” or “cure” them) was a bit counterintuitive. As every Autism parent is simply doing their best.
