As the first major biography of Ric Ocasek (as far as I know), this is fairly comprehensive, particularly as it relates to his youth and pre-Cars bands. Once the Cars hit, it races through (I would have preferred more info about the album tracks), then speeds through the decades following.
Hopefully the version I read via NetGalley has fixed the major errors, like the release year of the first Hairspray movie, the bungled Jonathan Richman song title, the basic math between the debut of MTV and the Shake It Up video, the repeated quote from Buckeye Beat about hooks and bridges, various punctuation glitches, the impossibility of something in E being slowed a half-step in pitch to F, and the spelling of his first name on the title page.
The author does lean towards expressions of profundity, ending each chapter with a sentence fragment cliffhanger. But it was still an engrossing, quick read, especially while listening to those terrific albums. Kudos also for quotes from band members and relatives.
