Frida’s Cook is a vibrant historical novel that beautifully blends art, food, and memory across generations. While Frida Kahlo and Diego Rivera’s turbulent love story provides a vivid backdrop, the heart of the novel is Nayeli—the cook whose wit, developmental journey, and quiet power shape the story. I loved how the narrative moved between 1930s Mexico City and the present day, tying together Nayeli’s life in Casa Azul with her granddaughter’s discovery of a hidden painting and long-buried family secrets.
This book has a great balance of action, emotional depth, and historical atmosphere. The author captures the chaos and passion of Frida’s world while keeping Nayeli’s journey at the center. A thoughtful, engaging read about friendship, resilience, and the legacies women leave behind.
