So good. Such a great read. Five stars hands down. I could not put it down all night long. Loved the characters so much.

Rush's Recovery is an ultra private rehab facility that caters to high net worth individuals. The three current patients are prohibited from interacting with each other, instead staying in their cabins with a full time care manager and private chef. Lord Edward of Essex is dealing with addiction after surviving an accident that destroyed his leg, while daughter of famous singers, Amelia Blue, is struggling with an eating disorder. Pop star Florence Bloom is at Rush's to ride out a public scandal. None of the three seems to care about staying in their cabins and not interacting. With rule breaking comes consequences, will they all make it out alive?

I really enjoyed these characters and their stories, taking place at a possibly not so great recovery center in the Hamptons. The ending really surprised me in a good way. 4.25 stars for this engaging read.

I received this advance copy from the publisher via NetGalley and am voluntarily leaving a review.

Three self-destructive B-celebrities have arrived at Rush’s Recovery center to get treatment away from the public eye. They have secrets but the center itself may as well.

I loved the celebrity rehab setting of this one. I thought there would be a lot of interaction amongst the guests but there was not quite as much as I thought. Each chapter is focused one of guests and it switches off. We get to know their personality and their history well but there’s still some shocks and twists at the end.

“All the money in the world can’t protect the wealthy from their own bodies, as vulnerable to the elements as anyone else’s.”

Such Sheltered Lives comes out 1/20.

Such Sheltered Lives takes the locked-room mystery format and plants it in an unexpected setting: an exclusive rehab in the Hamptons catering to the ultra-wealthy. Rush’s Recovery promises its guests privacy, luxury, and total discretion. The treatments are curated, the food is gourmet, and the rules are strict: stay in your own cottage, avoid other patients, and get used to having staff on hand at all times.

The latest arrivals include Lord Edward of Essex, who is trying to outrun both his addiction and his black sheep reputation. Amelia Blue Harris, the daughter of a 90s rock star, struggles with an eating disorder. and Florence Bloom, a pop star fresh from tabloid humiliation, who is looking for a place to hide. The center’s rigid boundaries should keep their lives separate, but curiosity, loneliness, and temptation quickly break through and the group meets one another.

The novel shifts between the guests’ perspectives. When a body is found, the question is not only who is responsible but what the center has been hiding all along. This is part mystery, part character study. The draw is in watching flawed, larger-than-life characters collide in a place that promises healing but hides nefarious secrets. The pacing builds gradually, rewarding patient readers with a tense, unsettling finale.

I really enjoyed getting to read this book, it had that element that I was looking for and enjoyed about the psychological suspense that I was wanting. I thought this worked well in the celebrity rehab center and was hooked from the first page, it had that secretive element that I was wanting and enjoyed the overall feel of this. The characters worked overall in this and was engaged from start to finish. Alyssa Sheinmel has a strong writing style and can't wait for more.

3.5 ⭐️

A quietly chilling and unsettling domestic story. Such Sheltered Lives was about a young woman, Sylvie, who spent her life sheltered by her controlling, safety-obsessed mother, Elizabeth. After a tragic accident led to Elizabeth’s arrest, Sylvie was sent to live with her estranged sister, Rachel. As she adjusted to a world beyond her mother’s rules, Sylvie began to unravel dark truths about her past and the consequences of a life built on fear.

This was my first book by Alyssa Sheinmel, and overall, I found the story engaging. Like most novels, it had its strengths and weaknesses. I didn’t love the fragmented narrative—switching between timelines, interviews, and present-day reflections. While it mirrored Sylvie’s disoriented mindset, it sometimes made the story feel scattered. The pacing was slow, and with no major twists, the tension felt more emotional than suspenseful.

That said, I did enjoy the character-driven focus and the thoughtful look at mental illness and generational trauma. The unique format ultimately fit the story, capturing Sylvie’s fractured perspective and giving it a distinct edge from more traditional thrillers.

I’d recommend this book to anyone who enjoys slow-burn, emotionally complex psychological fiction and themes of mother-daughter relationships, trauma, and identity.

Thank you Net Galley and Atria Books once again for an advance copy in exchange for my honest review.

“ For fans of Nine Perfect Strangers and The Midnight Feast, a moody, atmospheric psychological suspense set in the secretive world of celebrity rehab centres.”

I absolutely love nine perfect strangers so you know for sure I requested this book after reading that 😂

I love a wellness retreat for the rich and famous, it goes from supposed to being tranquil and classy to such a diabolical mess it’s laughable 😆

Three problematic guests who’s lifestyles have given then a superiority complex and an inversion to following rules. They are supposed to stay in their separate cottages and be waited on hand and foot but of course they can’t listen and chaos ensues.

If you’re somebody who’s here for the drama then this book will work for you. Admittedly the characters aren’t likeable but that’s when you can actually really enjoy the drama and anything bad that may happen 🤷🏼‍♀️

This is my first book by this author and I found it entertaining, I thought it was fast paced and got to the action without dragging on. I would be interested in reading more of her work!

Thank you to Atria books and Alyssa Sheinmel for the #netgalley #gifted copy!
