Jase is friends with West and Dane. They've known each other since they were in foster care together.
There was an event that happened when they were all young that changed their lives and made Jase the dark, unresponsive man he's become.

Kenna is Brook Lynn's older sister, though it seems that Brook Lynn has spent most of her life parenting her sister. Brook Lynn suffers from a condition that causes sounds to be amplified and cause her pain. So she has experimental implants which allow her to adjust the sound or turn it off.
So she can read lips when there is too much sound to deal with.

Kenna has spent her time trying to get the new guys in town in bed, starting with Dane. So Brook Lynn is surprised when she goes to the guys house, finds a party and learns that Kenna is now sleeping with Jase, whom she's yet to have met.

Brook Lynn walks in on them just after Kenna and Jase had slept together and immediately get into a physical altercation, prompting Jase to drop her in the pool. This is when he learns that Brook Lynn has trouble with her hearing and he may have ruined her costly implants.

Feeling like he not only screwed up by sleeping with the wrong sister, he also feels terrible for ruining Brook Lynn's implants, knowing she spends all her time working for her and her sister to keep a roof other their heads.

Soon things begin to fall apart for Brook Lynn, she loses all her jobs. So Jase feels it's partly his fault when Brooklyn's last job fires her when she's in the hospital sick from the new implant causing her illness. Jase hires her as his assistant and they soon become very close.

But there is something Jase hasn't told her and when his past comes back into his life, will the relationship they are developing be able to stand the test of and old flame and the dangers of an incident that shaped his life.

The books in this series are getting better and better.

Though I have no idea how Brook Lynn got past the idea that Jase had slept with her sister. I mean, I get that he realized he's made a mistake the moment he met her and I get that she was attracted to him. I just can't get past that idea of her falling for someone who had seen her sister naked and wanted her enough to sleep with her. Yikes...

That being said, I got past him being in prison for the reason he was in, easier than him sleeping with her sister. LOL

I'm looking forward to the next in the series but got sidetracked by another series. I will continue once I'm done with that one.
