Karen Pirie is one of my favorite series, so I was thrilled to read a new installment. While I felt that the characters referenced and dwelled on a pandemic/ lockdown that happened years ago in the storyline, it was nice to see them all again. The crimes in this book were brutal, complex, and interwoven. The “what really happened” was throughly satisfying but happened so close to the end of the book that there was very little wrap up and loose ends were left hanging— not to mention a lack of justice, though that is more indicative of the real world justice system than those you find in cozy mystery novels.
