Unfortunately I wasn't able to go through with this. I might come back someday.

I would like to thank the publisher and netgalley for providing me a free copy in exchange for an honest review.

This is such a fun and quirky graphic novel! I had a lot of fun reading it and really enjoyed the plot and illustrations. The graphic novel follows the main character, Jonathan York, who always does what he is told to do. One day he finds himself lost in the woods. While trying to figure out a way to get out, he comes across three other individuals who are headed to an inn. The innkeepers allow the guest to stay on one condition: in order to gain access to a room you must tell a story. Each of the other individuals tell their stories; however, when it is time for Mr. York to tell his story, he completely fails. As a result he's asked to leave the inn and he is forced to survive in the scary night. What I enjoyed most about this story was the lesson that was taught and learned. Before his night in the woods, Mr. York was a boring one-dimensional character, but with his experience in the woods he learned that having a story to tell is important and that it is our experiences that build us into the people that we are. I absolutely agree with that idea and I loved that the author used this medium to tell the story and introduce such a powerful message.

THIS WAS AMAZING! Seriously, I loved it so much!
The art style is exactly what I love, the color scheme is dark and fantastic and the monsters ... LOVE.

I read the first page and was already hooked! It reminded me of the Jabberwocky Poem (Alice in Wonderland) mixed in with Tim Burton aesthetics. Deliciously creepy and weird.

And Jonathan York ... I am like him in certain degrees. And the quote about public speaking being almost as frightening as death and pestilence? Yep, that's me! And it was refreshing to see an adult.
He led quite an uneventful life until the day the gets lost in a swamp. And he stumbles through the night and its adventures. It was quite endearing to see him struggle with what I'm sure mostly everyone would if they're not the hero/heroine of a fantasy/dystopian novel. (Not being brave and going forward all the time, but being indecisive and frightened (staying rooted to the spot because of not knowing if it's better to go forward or flee) and just wanting to get somewhere safe)
His anxiety was so believable and probably like I would have reacted in that certain situation.

I loved how the graphic novel ended. It was perfect. The message this graphic novel is telling is really great.

It was fun to read and exactly what I needed in between exams. This nothing else to say: Fantastic art, great character, cute story. Loved everything about it and I'm so happy I bought it! It would be a great addition to any collection. And I'm certainly going to reread this multiple time is only to see the illustrations again and again!

The art in this novel was amazing! I loved how the stories tone went from Jonathan's ordinary boring life to something much more spooky and different. It was a fast read that I definitely recommend.
