This is one of those addictive books where the main character is deeply compelling but also completely irredeemable and unlikeable. But somehow I couldn’t help but feel totally involved in her toxic determination as the chapters progressed. Overall this is definitely an unusual but nuanced story with a delicious twist and a satisfying ending.

Summary: A grieving woman becomes obsessed with a captivating stranger at her support group, drawn to him beyond reason. She starts attending meetings and seeking him out whenever she can. But the deeper she falls, the more she finds herself exposed in ways she never anticipated.

Sorry for Your Loss is a razor sharp psychological thriller that thrives on unease. Georgia McVeigh pulls you into the claustrophobic world of grief groups, secrets, and obsession, then yanks the floor out from under you in the most deliciously twisted ways.

Iris is one of the most fascinatingly unreliable characters I’ve come across in a long time, haunted, impulsive, and desperate for connection. When Jack walks into her grief circle, he seems like a lifeline, but McVeigh makes it clear from the start that appearances are meant to deceive. What begins as a fragile bond between two broken people quickly turns into a game of manipulation, one where you’re never quite sure who’s controlling who.

This novel is unsettling in the best possible sense. Every chapter feels like peeling back a new layer of darkness, and just when you think you’ve figured out the predator and the prey, McVeigh shifts the ground again. The pacing is electric, the tension unrelenting, and the ending left me reeling.

If you enjoy your thrillers dark, twisty, and tinged with obsession, Sorry for Your Loss will keep you up late at night questioning everyone’s motives, including the narrator’s.

Sorry for Your Loss is a sharp, edgy psychological thriller that pulls you into a dangerous dance of obsession, deceit, and power. Iris and Jack are both magnetic, damaged, and unpredictable, making their cat-and-mouse dynamic utterly compelling. From the moment they meet in the grief group, I couldn’t look away—the tension between them crackles on every page.

The twists are clever and relentless, blurring the lines between predator and prey. Just when I thought I had a handle on who was really in control, the story took another sharp turn. Iris is a fascinating protagonist—dark, flawed, and impossible not to root for—even as her choices grow more questionable. Jack, equally layered, is the perfect match for her in both attraction and danger.

What I loved most is how atmospheric and chilling the writing felt—an intricate puzzle where every secret has consequences. It’s unpredictable, fast-paced, and psychologically intense, with an ending that lands like a punch.

Perfect for fans of Ashley Elston and Ana Reyes, this is a must-read thriller that will leave you questioning who you can trust.

This story is manipulative in the most delicious way. Our POV character is an absolute basket case and completely unreliable. Intriguing from the start, and a puzzle that stays with you when you have to put away the book.

This was an interesting novel. We start in a grief support group, where just enough time has passed since the death of Iris's fiancé that she is starting to wonder if she's allowed to occasionally be happy again. Her inner monologue goes something like this: "Was that smile too big? Do they think I'm callous now? I should soften it somehow. Maybe with a slight cough and a bashful look at the floor. Yeah, nailed it." I found this to be extremely relatable and funny, as I think we've all had the experience of going through our emotions at a different speed than what is expected of us.
We soon find out that Iris's brain is not always the most comfortable or pleasant place to hang out. She's extremely awkward and feels things in a very big, very obsessive way. It is downright difficult to go along for the ride of her internal dialogue.
First person unreliable narrator is a very difficult thing to pull off. It's very easy to feel that you've been lied to the entire book. I felt that this was tempered somewhat by the fact that I mostly wasn't surprised by any of the big reveals. I think this is a good thing, as if there is no foreshadowing at all then you really are just being lied to by the narrator. It did lose some of the punchiness for me though. But all in all a pretty solid read.

Wow, what a twisty story filled with characters that you love to hate. Not a single redeeming character in the whole story but what a fun read, full of twists and turns!

Wow this book was so good so delicious we good. I enjoyed every last page 1st of all the main character the male and the female was so chaotic that I didn’t even know which way I was going like first of all the female character she was psychotic in herself. I could’ve even understand if she was actually the sister or actually herself I didn’t even know, and then the male character he seemed like he was a bit looney and very controlling as well, but I don’t wanna give too much about the story, but it was so good and I love the storyline about the characters and how everything played out it was a great read.

this was a strong psychological thriller novel, it had that element that I was looking for and enjoyed from this type of book. The characters were everything that I wanted in this and had that secrets that I was expecting. I enjoyed the game of cat and mouse that added to the tension of this book. It was a strong psychological element that I wanted and was engaged with the suspenseful atmosphere that I was hoping for. Georgia McVeigh wrote this well and was glad I got to read this.

Holy reverse triple toe loop.....if you know, you know.

Iris is batshit and unlikable but this book isn't and I fricking loved it. I loved slowly learning her backstory and marveled at how messy her home life was growing up. By the end I understood her a little even if I didn't really like her.

Also? Marcie kind of deserved it because girl code.

Just kidding.

Maybe.

Thank you to Dutton for gifting me a copy. It is my absolute pleasure to write an honest review.

A huge thanks to NetGalley for the e-arc in exchange for my honest review.

Sorry for Your Loss by Georgia McVeigh is a book that kept me guessing right until the very end — and only in the epilogue did I finally get the answers I was searching for. The story is unsettling, not in a way that made me want to stop reading, but in a way that made me desperate to reach the ending as quickly as possible.

At the center of it all is Iris, the heart of the story. Her grief and losses lead her to join a “grief group,” where she meets Jack, a widower mourning his wife. From there, the story slowly unravels — betrayal, jealousy, revenge, and truth all weaving together. Along the way, I kept creating my own possibilities and scenarios, but the actual ending left me satisfied.

I loved how the author built the characters, the emotions, and the way every plot point connected. It felt clever and well thought-out. Still, while the book didn’t give me that jaw-dropping, wide-eyed shock, it did make me pause, take a deep breath, and whisper “woah.” And that’s powerful in its own way.

This book is about Iris and Jack and the wild cat and mouse game they play. All while you get the backstory of Iris and her life to see why she is the way she is. Iris is a lot... you will have to read and see. This is for sure a psychological thriller and a bit dark but it is also entertaining throughout.

This was really intriguing and started so good but I just sort of blanked out and missed about half the plot .
I'd definitely need to read it again to write a proper review but I did sort of enjoy it .
It definitely has potential of being a brilliant book .

A great twist on the ‘evil boyfriend’ plot line, this is a book in which it’s never quite clear who’s in control.

The subject matter is dark, but Iris’ cutting narrative lends a sense of levity and I loved her narration, even if she was a most unlikeable character!

Some suspension of disbelief was required towards the end, but overall I throughly enjoyed this debut and look forward to more by the author.

Thanks to the publisher for the ARC!
