I really enjoyed this one! I liked Chloe as a character ter and found myself wanting to read to the end.

Stuck in a Production Assistant job and living at home with her parents after a painful breakup, thirty-one-year-old Chloe Fairway isn’t where she wants to be in life. The last thing she needs is to face the people who once voted her "most likely to succeed" at her upcoming ten-year college reunion. And she definitely doesn’t want to see her former best friend, Sean Adler, who is now a hotshot film director living the life Chloe dreamed of. Desperate to make a splash—and to save face in front of the man who might be the one that got away—she turns to a mysterious dating service. Enter Rob, her handsome, well-read, and charming match, the perfect plus-one to take to her reunion. The more she gets to know him, the more perfect he appears to be. Could it be that this dating service knows her better than she knows herself? And can she overlook the one big catch? As Chloe reconnects with old friends, she begins to question everything she thought she wanted. Maybe, just maybe, revisiting the past is exactly what she needs to move forward.

Thoughts
This was definitely an original plot. It was fun to see it all tied together at the end. Honestly it’s funny that I was rooting for one guy at the beginning but found myself shifting to another and aligning to the FMC’s thoughts and feelings. I just wish we had more time with the two of them together instead of just the very end.

Thank you to the publishers for this advanced copy. I’m a big romance girl, and this book checked all the boxes for me. I really loved being wrapped up in their story and was literally kicking my feet and rooting for them! It’s always interesting to discover how you might connect with a new author, and I am super excited to read other books that she writes.

A totally weird premise that absolutely worked for me! A love triangle with an AI? Past yearning.? Sign me up.

At the end of Sophie Cousens’ latest novel, she includes a pretty illuminating — and quite welcome! — note about the different shapes this book took before it met its final form. Initially, she tells us, it was a bit darker, and then a little lighter, before landing here. Perhaps that’s why our leading men — both real and not — feel so underbaked? I like leading lady Chloe quite a bit, but I could never get a handle on Rob (who used to be much more evil), or John (who also changed over the course of her writing), or Sean (who Cousens truly can’t seem to decide on). Whiplash!

I appreciate the attempt to mix it up her work, and I’m eager to see where it goes next.

This was great! Sophie's books always feel like a warm hug and I loved the banter in this one. This story was wild! If you're a fan of her previous works, you won't be disappointed.

Thank you to NetGalley, the publishers and author for an advanced copy of And Then There Was You by Sophie Cousens.
Another great book by S.C. I have read all of her books, Is She Really Going Out With Him, is my fave!
I went into reading this blind and I recommend you do the same. I'm not going to give any specifics here. What an interesting and refreshing read. I wouldn't have thought this plot line would pull me in so much. Loved the characters. We get a little dual timeline, friends to lovers, soul searching and a possible look into the future.
Can't wait to read Sophie's next book!

Calificacion: 3.5/5

Chloe tardo demasiado en darse cuenta que estaba mal lo que estaba haciendo.

Oh, I so had opinions through the first part of this book....but then it started to change a bit and I saw what the author was _really_ trying to do, so it went from two stars to five! It's a romantic comedy for a new age...this whole AI/person relationship trope. Is the AI-bot there to build confidence or to be an actual partner? I'm still not sure what the company's true purpose is, even after finishing the story. However, I loved the ending, and the point behind it all, which is that humanity is messy and totally worth it.

Sophie Cousens’ upcoming novel, And Then There Was You, is a charming and thought-provoking romantic comedy that blends humor, heartache, and a touch of whimsy. The story follows Chloe Perfect, a quirky and endearing woman who, despite her name, feels far from perfect. At 36, Chloe is stuck in a rut—her job marketing gardening supplies is uninspiring, her love life is nonexistent, and her grandmother is grumpy. On a whim, she joins Perfect Partners, an experimental dating agency with strict rules and a promise to find "The One."

Chloe is soon matched with Rob, who seems flawless on paper. But as their relationship unfolds, she begins to question the ethics of the program and her own desires. Her growing connection with Oliver, another participant, adds complexity and emotional depth, challenging her to reconsider what “perfect” really means.

If you enjoy romantic comedies with a twist, rich character development, and a dash of introspection, And Then There Was You promises to be a delightful read.

This was my first Sophie Cousens read and I was initially pretty intrigued, but the more and more I read of And Then There Was the You, the more I lost interest. It definitely had a uniqueness to it with the character Rob, but overall, everyone felt really flat. Like everyone was just a touch more real than an AI bot…and let me just say….the AI bot got really old, really quickly. I was irritated with it for pretty much the entire story.

Not sure I would read Sophie Cousens again, the plain writing style and dialogue were the biggest flaws to me, but I can see how people who enjoy “a quick and easy read” would like it. I just prefer a lot of depth.

I was surprised to enjoy this one as much as I did. Definitely not your typical love triangle, but enjoyable and mostly lighthearted. The female main character is endearing and will keep you reading despite the unorthodox premise of this romance.

5/5 Stars
I really enjoyed And Then There Was You by Sophie Cousens. I thought the AI premise was unique and while it seems farfetched, I can see something like that happening in the future. I enjoyed how the book didn't glorify AI and it wasn't too focused on it. The characters felt relatable and real. I recommend this book to readers who are looking for a cozy romance with a new twist!

I had some trouble getting into this book - the whole "robot boyfriend" just was too much for me at first, but once I got past that, I really enjoyed this book as I do all of her novels. The idea of having an AI humanoid be your significant other is scary and thought-provoking, and hopefully, not our future. It is amazing that in parts of the book, you find yourself forgetting what Rob is, and then, around the same time that Chloe does, you remember, "Right, he isn't real."

When you get past the robot dating idea, the book is a charming rom-com with likable characters and a solid plot. The relationship between Sean and Chloe is one part that does not completely get answered - it seemed like she was only into him, and then, all of a sudden, without real intention, she isn't. This could have been explored further, but it still worked as intended. Overall, this was another fun read by Sophie Cousens. Thanks to NetGalley and Putnam Books for this e-arc in exchange for an honest review.

Sophie Cousens is an auto-read for me, so I was excited to get this ARC! I flew through the book in a day and truly enjoyed it. The FMC is relatable and the plot is quite unique! Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for the ARC.

Chloe Fairway's life isn't what she always imagined. As a single 31 year old working as a production assistant for a D-list production agency, her career is unfulfilling and her love life is dismal. With her college reunion around the corner, Chloe decides to give an exclusive, mysterious dating agency, Perfect Partners, a chance. There she meets Rob, a Paul Mescal lookalike, who is actually pretty perfect for her. But Chloe learns there's more to Rob than meets the eye. As Chloe tries to survive her reunion, she finds herself reflecting on past choices, her present lifestyle, and her pending future with Rob.

And Then There Was You is a romantic sci-fi, with current pop culture references and likable characters. For readers who would enjoy Bridget Jones in an episode of Black Mirror.

Thank you to Putnam Books for providing an advance reader copy via NetGalley. All opinions are my own.

Chloe is not where she expected to be: still living with her parents, her theatrical dreams unrealized, and her love life marked by disappointing relationships. When she’s invited to a college reunion in Oxford, the thought of facing old friends feels overwhelming—so she turns to Rob, an AI boyfriend, for help.

This novel is hard to categorize. It reads like realistic fiction, yet the presence of an AI partner gives it a science fiction edge. At times it feels like a standard romance, but the unsettling possibility of a “realistic” robot boyfriend complicates the narrative. I found the premise smart and often well-executed, though also a little off-putting. Chloe had good chemistry with John, but her personality kind of irked me. Sean and Chloe’s relationship, however, felt confusing—her interest in him seemed to shift suddenly. And Rob? I’m still unsure what to make of robot-love as a concept.

Overall, this was different—thought-provoking, unusual, and sometimes disorienting. I’m still wrestling with what I think about it, which might be the point.

I saw that Sophie Cousens referred to And Then There Was You as her most insane book yet, and “holy mackerel,” she was not kidding. The way this had me questioning myself and everything I want and need out of life is either going to send me to a therapist or negate the need for one. This is a super unique story; It’s futuristic, but also a very relevant commentary on the world at this exact moment in time. But don’t worry, it’s also got Sophie Cousens’ typical cozy, heartwarming sweetness in spades.

It took me approximately two pages to become hooked, because as a woman who has been on dating apps, this has perhaps the most relatable first chapter of a book maybe ever (I do sincerely hope that is not the case for all readers, but… alas). If you have ever wondered what men, as a whole, have done to deserve you, then allow me to present Perfect Partners, and the wild idea that maybe… they don’t.

Then came the twist. All of the sudden, the story took a sort of creepy turn, and I wondered if I had gotten confused and this was actually a different genre than I had expected. I’m going to be honest - if Sophie Cousens wasn’t one of my favorite authors (and I hadn’t been gifted this arc in exchange for a review), I think I would have quit reading. However, “horrifying” turned to “hmm” pretty quickly. I got on board, kept reading, and I am SO glad I did.

In spite of my reservations, And Then There Was You turned out to be such a lovely, sweet romance, exactly what I was hoping for when I first picked it up. I can’t say too much because I don’t want to spoil the plot, but I promise this was a really cute story with a lot of depth. I feel very protective of it now, and it would make me so sad to hear someone else say they quit reading before giving it a chance. Additionally, it has lovable characters, an excellent setting and a really cute dog!

I definitely recommend grabbing And Then There Was You When it releases! It’s expected November 18, 2025.

Thank you so much to Sophie Cousens, Putnam Books, and NetGalley for allowing me to read this arc in exchange for my review.

I forgot the plot of this book before I started reading it, and boy, was I surprised! This was a departure from the usual Sophie Cousens fare due to the science fiction nature of the story. I know she's written time travel before, but this new AI twist (I don't want to say too much) was delightfully crazy. I was surprised about the love interest, too. I was so sure that Chloe was going to her reunion to rekindle a romance with her estranged best friend Sean, but it turned out to be someone else (am I even allowed to say who it is?) and it took me a while to warm up to him, but I did eventually. I loved his truth-telling and how much he paid attention to and cared for Chloe. What bothered me is a very small thing, that he lied about his dog being a service dog -- that's colored by my work as a public servant who is constantly dealing with troublesome people with dogs they claim are service dogs when they are just pets. This is a winner from Sophie Cousens, even though it's not my favorite book of hers. The writing is simply believable, impeccable, and romantic. Thank you for this ARC!
