I am typically a big fan of Sophie Cousens and look forward to her next read. This just didn’t do it for me. Kudos for bringing AI into the story but it really didn’t work for me.

Chloe Fairway isn’t where she wants to be in her career and her college reunion is coming up. A friend suggests a new super secret dating option - she is set up with an AI bot to be her boyfriend. It is just weird. Throw in her college boyfriend who has made it big and another guy friend who has feelings for her and it is a bizarre love triangle.

Not at all what I expected and I’m so incredibly sorry to say, but a big fail for me. I still look forward to the next book!

Thanks to NetGalley and Putnam books for the ARC in exchange for an honest review.

Thought provoking, fun and more than I expected. When I began reading this book, I told myself, “This is almost too weird.” But I kept reading and was so glad I did. What began as a book that I felt was too far fetched, became a book that I kept thinking that maybe it is not as outrageous as I thought.

Chloe Fairway has wonderful memories of when she went to college at Oxford and thought she was destined for stardom in the theater. But as her college reunion is approaching she is realizing that while all of her classmates are extremely successful now, Chloe is stuck as a production assistant living with her parents and no love life. Looking for love, she decides to hire an exclusive dating service and what she gets with her free trial is quite a shock. As Chloe attends her college reunion, she puts on a fake facade to appear happier with her life than she really is. When she meets her friends from her past, regrets are confronted. Chloe has to face the fact that if she wants to change her life, only she can do it.

I ended up enjoying this romance, but also deeply thinking about what our world is progressing towards, are these good changes or very bad changes.

I really liked this! Probably my new favorite book by the author. The AI angle is timely, and it felt as realistic as it could recognizing that we’re still a ways off from humanoid robots. It was funny ( several times I laughed out loud) and charming, and I loved Chloe, John, Richard, and Rob. Would definitely recommend to others!

I really loved all the parts with Chloe working on herself and figuring life out. I thought the idea of an AI boyfriend was super interesting and that it forced to to analyze what she really wanted. I think this book could've worked so much better if it was contemporary fiction instead and wasn't constrained by the happily ever after rule of romance. I absolutely hated that she was forced into a random ending w a real man. I never felt any chemistry with that guy and I fully thought for the first half he was her gay friend from college and was shocked he was the love interest. It seemed really dumb to me that there had to be a real guy in the mix to contrast the AI boyfriend.

I absolutely adore Sophie Cousens, but sadly this one just didn’t work for me. I couldn’t connect with the characters, and it felt like the story was juggling too many threads (the AI BOT, Sean, John) and none of them really landed for me. There wasn’t a main love interest I found myself rooting for, which made it hard to feel invested in the romance.

I’ll admit, I probably overhyped it in my own head since I’m such a big fan of Sophie’s previous books, but overall this one left me a bit disappointed.

Sophie Cousens has been one of my most read authors of the year, but I have to say that this latest book of hers was not nearly as satisfying. I found the premise to be too unrealistic and difficult to put aside to enjoy the romance between the two main characters. I also found Chloe to be somewhat annoying and whiny, with little character development outside of her relationship. This was disappointing, as I feel like Cousens often does a good job of making us root for the FMC. I was hoping for an uplifting, lighthearted, and easy to read romance from this, but felt myself wanting to switch to other books partway through. I ultimately wanted more from the romance, and more time spent between the main characters than we ended up getting.
I agree with other reviewers that the synopsis of the book doesn't accurately portray the theme's and content, and that by not mentioning the AI pieces of this story, the publisher could mislead readers.

As a self-proclaimed Sophie Cousens superfan, I was very excited to read this and I was not disappointed. I always love her cozy romances, and I thought that she did a great job adding an AI element to it. The current dating landscape is so horrific, so I thought that this was a really interesting take on where we are headed and what it means to have truly meaningful connections.

Although I didn't really buy into the main relationship at the beginning, it grew on me over time and I really began to love them both together as I learned more about their past. Overall, this was really sweet, and it may be my favorite Sophie Cousens book yet.

I’d like to thank Sophie Cousens, NetGalley, and Putnam for providing the ARC of And Then There Was You.
This heartfelt novel beautifully explores themes of love, regret, and second chances. Cousens’s storytelling is both warm and genuine, drawing the reader into the lives of her characters with authenticity and tenderness. The characters are well-developed, and I found myself truly invested in their journeys.
While the pacing was smooth and engaging, there were moments where I wished for a bit more depth in some of the secondary storylines. Nonetheless, this book offers a delightful blend of humor, emotion, and hope that will resonate with fans of contemporary romance and heartfelt fiction.
Overall, a lovely read that left me feeling uplifted. I look forward to more from Sophie Cousens!

I thought the premise of this book was interesting, even though this was not a typical Sophie Cousens novel, and I laughed out loud in several scenes where things with Rob start to go wrong. The romance is where this fell short for me. I just didn’t feel the chemistry between Chloe and the MMC.

Though I typically enjoy Sophie Cousens writing, I really struggled with the plot of this book. Something about the way Rob was introduced felt jarring, like there wasn’t enough lead in to Perfect Partners. I took a break, unsure if I’d finish it, and I found myself not enjoying Chloe any more when I picked it back up. The characters of John and Richard, and the lovely ending, really saved it for me and made this a 4 star read.

And Then There Was You by Sophie Cousens is one of the most unique romcoms I’ve read! It is the story of a screen writer named Chloe who hasn’t gotten as far in life as she hoped she would have by the time her college reunion rolls around. So she enlists the help of a unique fake date to make her look like her life is a little more put together and to impress an old flame. I thought hr story was cute and I actually laughed out loud in the middle of a car dealership while waiting on an oil change when I reached chapter 21!! Hahaha!!! The only qualms I have with this story was it seemed a little disjointed. I wasn’t sure which romance I was supposed to be rooting for to begin with but it all worked itself out! 4 star read for me!

This was my first Sophie Cousens book and it was a dud for me. After reading other reviews it seems this is slightly different than her other books so maybe I’ll try one of those. I felt this book was just weird and difficult to get through. The twist was not typical of a traditional romance which is how the blurb presents the book to be. Maybe if there was more context in the synopsis I would have had a different idea going into it. It just wasn’t for me.

There's just something about Sophie Cousens' writing that pulls you in every time...and this book was no exception. The story was a fresh, unique take on the rise of AI and what the future could hold for all of us, particularly as it relates to love, experiences, and how to create meaningful relationships in a time where technology has permeated our lives like never before. The story made me so reminiscent of my college years and the one that got away...maybe there's still hope for us all!

I was so not expecting this. Overall, I would give this book 4 stars. It was equal parts intriguing, cringy, and confusing. I know that doesn't really sound like a glowing review, but I really liked how different this book was and liked the way this book made me think. It's hard to leave a review for this book without giving away the plot, but I will say that this may be the first romance book where I wasn't sure who the love interest was, and I really liked how it turned out. I'd say this story is more about Chloe finding herself more than about Chloe finding love.

The target audience for this book is probably anyone who can relate to attending a 10-year reunion of sorts.

*Friends to lovers
*Finding yourself
*Reunion (University)

Thank you so much NetGalley, Sophie Cousens, and Putnam for the arc!!

This was a one of a kind read, for sure! Sophie Cousens took us on a little journey into the future, and it's crazy to even say, but I could absolutely see this being real life sooner rather than later.

And Then There Was You follows Chloe Fairway who is feeling slightly defeated with life. She has just gone through a breakup and is now living back at home with her parents. The icing on the cake is that her ten-year college reunion is coming up and she is definitely not looking forward to it. She doesn't have a boyfriend/husband/significant other to take, she doesn't really want to share with all of her peers that voted her "most likely to succeed", that she has in fact, NOT reached her career goals and she absolutely dreads seeing one of her oldest friends, Sean, who IS doing all the things with his job that she wishes she was doing. What's a girl to do other than get connected with a dating service to find herself a date to bring along with her to make it not quite so miserable. She will at least get to show off with a great date! Things get a little tricky when the man she is matched with, Rob, turns out to be a little too perfect.

This was different, cute and fun, and I really enjoyed it! AI and romance are not typically two things you want to go together, but she made it work and it was super impressive. A little love triangle with two humans and a boibot? Yes, please. Bring it on! In today's world, this honestly is not even that far-fetched of an idea and I think Sophie is pretty amazing for taking the leap and bringing it to the pages of a contemporary romance novel! Even though there is a futuristic aspect, we still get our much wanted, sweet and heartfelt romance and entertainment. We watch Chloe grow and have some big eye-opening moments within her personal and professional life. I don't want to spoil any of the book, but I will say there is a small "twist" that I thought was such a nice surprise! Sometimes it's kind of cool when you think you have it all figured out and then the author changes it up! Also, there's a dog, and we ALL know that romance + cute dog sidekick= a win! Be ready to grab your copy on Nov. 18 - keep an open mind and have some fun with this one!

Thank you NetGalley and Putnam for this early reading copy! All opinions are my own!

If you've read Sophie Cousens previous books you know to expect heart and humor. This one is no exception! Classic Sophie that draws you in from the very beginning. She delivers another story that feels unique and familiar at the same time. Can't wait to get a copy when it comes out!

Thank you Putnam and Net Galley for the ARC! This was quite an interesting read. This is the third book I read by her and I think I found it to be in the middle. The plot was interesting, especially in this day and age. This could very well be the future. But I get Chloe, life didn’t go the way she wanted and she just wanted something to prove at the reunion. This was a quick and interesting read. A bit predictable but enjoyable.

I truly don't know what to think about the first half this book. I'll be quite honest, when I they revealed the first twist about we're off. I'll put the book down and wasn't sure if I was going to continue or Not. I can deal with fairies and some. Murdery romance but robots and octopus and weird animals in my romance novels are not on my checklist.

I'm glad that I did continue though, it did not end the way I thought it would, which was a definite plus.

I loved the unrequited. Love aspect, a long time crush and the longing that these two characters had for each other.

The writing was really good but truly the main character, Chloe, is kind of hard to like.

Thank you netgalley for the ARC in exchange for an honest review
