A summer beach read with a female serial killer and an amazing storyline?! Sign me up!

I loved everything about this! I was hooked from the beginning & didn’t want it to end.

Thank you to NetGalley for letting me listen to this audiobook early!

This book was surprisingly great, not a mystery, not a romance, but deep and thoughtful, with a fairly unique ending. Lily and Daniel are smoking hot together. Their love and devotion and hurt and surprises were so well written. I loved the writing style in this book, it was not melodramatic but intense.

Justis Bolding did a great job with the narration. You could fell Lily's pain.

I thought this was pretty entertaining. There were some plot holes and the motive was questionable but the characters were interesting and I liked the main person. Not your typical female serial killer, Lily is so passionate about what she's doing that she works what's basically a teen lifeguard job during the summers even though she's pushing 30.
Thanks to NetGalley, I got to listen to the audiobook, and the performance made it more credible and enjoyable. This is more a beach read, but it's fun surprising and, for me, ultimately satisfying.

I’m so sorry, NetGalley. I absolutely hate giving bad ratings to ARCs because I’m so thankful when I receive them but I just could not get into this book for the absolute life of me.

I was first drawn to the cover and title. I was headed to Kauai and thought this might make the perfect beach read with a serial killer twist. The opening chapter on the plane felt pretty promising. Sienna Sharpe took her time detailing the man on the plane and his interactions with the FMC. I felt like I was in for a really immersive experience with animated, well developed characters but almost immediately after this started to just fall flat. By chapter 6 it felt like the author was putting her attention on things I’m not really interested in for a beach read. The direction started to go in a social justice direction that felt like it had nothing to do with the story and more so just the author interjecting personal convictions. It didn’t flow well or add any value to the storyline so it just felt kinda weird and pulled me out of the story. I continued to read though because I wanted to give the author and the book the benefit of the doubt but things didn’t really get better. The inner monologue felt repetitive and the pace felt drawn out. The writing never quite pulled me into the story and overall I just didn’t find it to be gripping. Unfortunately, I don’t think I am a very big fan of Sharpe’s writing style.

Thank you k, NetGalley for an e-ARC of A Killer Getaway in exchange for my honest opinion.

4.25 stars. I went into this with no expectations and I had such a great time.

Lily has been spending her summers lifeguarding at a Caribbean resort for the past five years and she is the only one who knows why she keeps coming back every year. Immediately something about this summer feels different and she can’t put her finger on it.

Resort guest Daniel Black arrives and upends all of Lily’s summer plans. The attraction between them is electric and Lily is getting distracted from her goal. He is writing a piece on the resort for a travel magazine, but the questions he is asking about the deaths that have occurred every summer since she started working there begin to freak Lily out. She has a closet full of secrets and she knows Daniel might be the one to bring her down. That pull toward him is strong though and Lily is struggling. She has a job to do and she is going to do it whether Daniel is onto her or not.

That is really just scratching the surface of how much happens in this book. There are so many layers. The reasons that motivate various choices made by the characters, their very different personality types, a few really important flashback moments… and of course, the conversation around body positivity and the toxicity of specific aspects of wellness culture. All the layers combine to create this suspenseful thriller with characters that you really care about.

I loved the narration of this one and definitely recommend this audiobook!
