Moonflow is imaginative, queer, and gloriously weird. It perfectly blends cosmic horror with biting social commentary. The premise is wildly creative, and the worldbuilding is rich with unsettling atmosphere, strange surreal imagery, and some of the most entertaining names I have ever come across.
While the ride was entertaining, it didn't completely grip me. The pacing felt a bit slow in places, and there were moments I found myself more intrigued by the concept than fully invested in the plot progression. It was not the unputdownable read I hoped for. 2.5
Thank you NetGalley and Hachette Audio for the chance to listen to this title in exchange for my opinion.

Look if you name characters “hell slut” and “captain beef curtains” you get 5 stars I don’t make the rules.
I devoured this book! Trans rep, Queers, mushrooms, horror, gore, insane women and lots of talk of huge tits - it’s everything I want in a world!
I’m sure this book isn’t for everyone but it is for me. I love my horror wild weird and gory!
I was lucky enough to be gifted the audio arc by Hachette - Venus Rose Fischer did such an amazing job! Each character so distinct their personalities truely coming through. She truely made them dimensional, skillet and Sarah easily being my favourites, I truly felt like I know exactly who they where
Anyway give me more weird girl horror forever!

A biting botanical splatterpunk horror that leaves you wondering if they were hallucinating or if you were.

General Thoughts:
This book was definitely a psychedelic trip through a very culty and bizarre world. It's 70's love child meets Manson level feminist cult.
Splatterpunk with a comical bite is the only way to describe this novel. I volleyed between laughing hysterically to being utterly uncomfortable and disgusted mere pages later. While I fully accept that this book is not for everyone, I was definitely able to enjoy the finer thematic aspects of the novel as well as the biting satire.
This novel tackles themes that have deep depths in a unique and often unsettling way. Calling attention to feminism and the way it frequently fails Trans women I thought was done really well. It was hard to hear the blatant Transphobia throughout the book, but it definitely drove the point home.
The metaphor of the mushroom being the pinnacle of everything was a little on the nose. But it was so well done and integrated that it really didn't feel that way.
This is a splatter horror and the subject matter and triggers reflect that. Though on the spectrum I would consider it on the lighter side since it's not overly descriptive. The triggers should be checked fully before reading for mental health reasons.
The erotic nature of this novel is definitely a main component. The overtly sexual content isn't always my favorite in splatterpunk, but it was definitely utilized in a way that made sense to the content and furthered the point of story.
The ending dragged on a little too long for me and I feel it really could have ended at the 87-89% mark. Other than that I was really satisfied with the ending.
Disclaimer: I read this audiobook via free ALC/Ebook through NetGalley, publisher Run For It and Hachette Audio. All opinions are my own. This is my honest and voluntary review.

This one was just not for me. I was expecting more dark atmospheric nature related horror, and at least the beginning seemed like this is a strong focus on sex, with some descriptive body imagery. I do think it would deliver for those looking for weird, unique and a "gloriously queer and irreverent psychedelic trip" as the description says! As an audiobook it was perfectly fine, no issues with the narration.

I like to dabble in some unusual stufff when it comes to what I'm reading, and this is definitely one of the more out there books I've listened to lately. This is not for the mainstream reader. There is a lot of content that the general reading public may find too gritty, disturbing, or just plain odd, and there's enough that it may overshadow the reading experience altogether.
Though some of the characters get up to extremely unsavory behavior, they also have some of the greatest names I've come across. Virginia Dentata? Come on. That's iconic on its own. Sarah is pretty pedestrian sounding relatiively, but she has an extremely unusual journey with these folks. Frequently, readers may wonder if she's somehow infused us with her notorious crop.
This took some directions that I didn't love, and my tolerance for those (staying vague intentionally) is lower in the current climate. I prefer an entirely TERF-free zone at all times but especially now.
This is one wild ride, and at the very minimum, most readers won't have read anything like it. It was a little too much for me, but I'd absolutely check out more from this writer.
